Back in the late 1800s, folks stopped by a place called Oaks Candy Shop for delicious hand-dipped chocolates and sweets...over one hundred years and five generations later, chocolate lovers from all over still count on Oaks Candy for exceptional quality, value and personal service. Whether you are in the mood for one of their popular assortments—a box of mouth-watering meltaways or a selection of your own favorites—you’ve come to the right place. At Oaks Candy, good chocolates are not just a treat, they are a tradition. Located at 1200 Oregon Street. If you can’t make it to the shop, you can order online.
If you didn’t know about Hughes’ Home Maid Chocolates store, you might actually miss it. The popular candy store is in a basement, hidden among the homes on 1823 Doty Street. Since 1940, this little house has been pumping out some of the best handcrafted chocolates you will ever try! You won’t find a big candy display, but, you will find generations of candy makers at work. Hughes is open seasonally from September through May and is definitely worth a visit!
Learn how to satisfy your sweet tooth:
The warm sun glistens on the gentle waves as you sip a local, craft brew and watch boats float effortlessly on the sunlit water. Kids are playing games on the lush lawn and young lovers are laughing two tables over. Your mind starts to wander as you hear a familiar tune drift through the air. You turn your attention to the live band in the corner of the patio and notice the ember glow of the sunset dancing to the rhythm of the song. The intoxicating aroma of the grill sweeps you off your feet and you come to the realization that this moment is absolutely perfect.
