WELCOME I am delighted to welcome you to the 13th annual Mouth of the Tyne Festival. Once again there is a bumper programme of things to see and do including exciting live music concerts, free street entertainment and jazz music, activities for under 5s and a fantastic parade featuring hundreds of young people and local organisations. Our coastline provides a spectacular setting for the festival and I know we’ll have many people travelling from outside of the area to enjoy themselves not just this weekend but right across the summer. Whatever you choose to see and do at the event I hope you have a really enjoyable time and visit us again soon.

KAREN ELSON Award-winning English folk singer-songwriter and musician Laura Marling performs just weeks after a North American tour and the release of her sixth studio album Semper Femina. In 2011, Laura won Best British Female at the Brits and Best Solo Artist at the NME Awards when just 21 years old. Mercury Prize nominated singer-songwriter King Creosote has over 40 albums to his name and continues to be one of the most popular folk performers recording today. Nashville-based singer-songwriter and Supermodel Karen Elson will open the show. Karen has modelled around the world for international brands and has travelled around the world as an ambassador for Save the Children. Anyone attending the music concerts at Tynemouth Priory and Castle can enjoy food from our independent street food traders serving globally influenced artisan food, but sourced and produced locally. There’s a fully stocked festival bar with top beers, wine and Prosecco ready to go.

BASH STREET THEATRE BELLEVUE HOTEL Told in Bash Street’s trademark silent comedy style, Bellevue Hotel is the tale of a struggling seaside landlady under siege by a grasping property developer. Her theatrical guests rally round to do battle with the Demolition Men. 9

NEWTON’S LADDER - HOPE IS A THING WITH FEATHERS Spectacular aerial dance from Newcastle-based Irish company Newton’s Ladder, directed by Liv Lorent.
Her wings take her skyward. His love grounds her. It’s a story of commitment, strength, fight and flight, and most of all hope.
GIJS VAN BON - BLOOM Slowly moving backwards, the robotic sand writer ‘Bloom’ draws in the streets. Sand comes out of his long arm and decorates the ground with drawings. Small buckets filled with coloured sand are placed close to the drawings so that everyone can colour them and add a personal touch.
TEATRO PAVANA: STRUZZI These beautiful, ostrich-like creatures and their elegant riders are making their first visit to Tynemouth from Holland. The riders seem very confident – but who is in charge of whom?
RAINBOW STILT DANCERS The Rainbow Stilt Dancers have all the moves to fit in with any performance from samba to soul. 10

CHIPOLATINAS Tristan Glover, a founder member of the legendary Chipolatas, has now teamed up with the wonderful talents of ‘Lusco and Frusco’ from Spain to create classic Chips with a twist of Latin dressing! Expect circus, music, theatre, beatbox and ballads.
LA DINAMO - MUSIC ON CYCLES La Dinamo are a red hot funk band from Spain who ride into town on a bicycle combination that includes its own sound system. Party to Kool and the Gang, James Brown and Daft Punk on wheels!
MIMBRE - IF I COULD I WOULD Festival favourites Mimbre are back with their latest show, a sharp tale of urban living and office politics that features virtuoso acrobatics and humour as one woman battles the daily grind.

GARAGHTY AND THOM Richard Garaghty and Goronwy Thom are bringing their multi award-winning comedy show to Tynemouth for the first time, as well as acting as comperes for the ever-popular cabaret stage.
STRONG LADY Making a welcome return from the Southern Hemisphere, Charmaine a.k.a. Betty Brawn performs exhilarating feats of strength, not in the brutish style of a Strong Man, but with the elegance of a true Strong Lady. Laugh, gasp and be amazed.
THEATRE DU VERTIGE LOUGAROCK This gigantic French werewolf looks fearsome, but he’s an easy riding rock fan with the Gallic heart of a true romantic. Once seen, never forgotten.

PLATFORM AT TYNEMOUTH STATION Enjoy an exciting programme of dance, music and entertainment at Tynemouth Station over the weekend. Visit the incredible new interactive installation The Actual Reality Arcade. Designed by artist Matthew Harrison, it re-invents classic arcade games like Kong, Tetris, Laser Run and Asteroids so a new generation can enjoy them all over again. Some games in the Arcade are designed to be played solo, others in pairs or in groups. Have fun!

Bloom is a little machine that draws pictures on the ground in white sand, creating a large flowery carpet. PAGEANT Kings Priory First School Celebrating the unique appeal of our beautiful coast from it’s varied wildlife to it’s wild surf and water sports, this year’s pageant parade will re-imagine coastal life with a feast of street music, dance, exotic costumes and beautifully crafted giant parade pieces. Delivered by the team behind Whitley Bay Carnival parade, working in partnership with the North Tyneside schools music hub, the promenaders will include 20 groups from the community and local schools. Look out for brass, drums, colourful costumes and even a giant swan! 17
