UnderWater World has new behind-the-scenes tour three times daily these school holidays – it’s a rare chance to look through the eyes of a marine expert and learn about what marine experts do to nurture turtles, feed the marine life and keep 2.5 million litres of water at the highest quality. Sessions are at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm. There are also daily marine animal talks and feeding sessions, including showtime at Seal Island, otter presentation, Ocean Tunnel tour and exploring the reef.

Leak’n Logs is jam-packed with water surprises including a tin shed where you can experience a typical Queensland electrical storm complete with thunder, wind, lightning and rain. There’s a walk-through mist shed, tipping buckets, showers, outback log waterfall and dancing water jets.

On Tue 22 January, it’s Eco Nest with Motoyuki Niwa – sculpt a nest from cane and natural fibres and create an ornamental egg for the centrepiece, using weaving and painting. On 24 January it’s Working with Sticks with Richard Newport, a hands-on design, building and construction workshop to create sculptures from natural materials. Cost for each workshop is $5 and bookings are essential.

Artist John Morrison will talk about his new exhibition, Landscapes Far and Wide at noon. His landscapes are inspired by Harry Redford’s extraordinary adventure traversing four states from the NSW tablelands deep into the Northern Territory. The second exhibition, Artesian Country, brings to life the stories, places and people of Central Western Queensland as 12 artists from the Barcaldine, Aramac and Jericho regions reveal the rich diversity of life and land in Artesian country, captured in paintings, photography, sculpture and spoken word. The oﬃcial opening of the exhibitions is at 1pm by 2008 Senior Australian of the Year, Bruce Campbell AM MBE. Then at 2.30pm, join an artist talk with Tom Lockie and Jo Martin.
