Downtown

In the beginning…

The Oregon Short Line Railway sought to make its way from Granger, Wyoming to Huntington, Oregon, passing through what would later become Canyon County. Since towns tended to spring up every 10-15 miles along the tracks, once the sagebrush was cleared to make a safer path for eastbound travelers, Nampa was born. Now, the once revolutionary train station lies in the center of a lively community and serves as the Canyon County Historical Museum.

Home to the Snake River Stampede, Northwest Nazarene University and many other historical beginnings, Nampans today enjoy many of the same commodities as the early 20th century pioneers. Undoubtedly, much has changed since then.

Then vs. Now.

Though Nampa began with a dream of “a Town with no saloon”, it is now the gateway to the Idaho wine country. Many of the rich surrounding farmlands of Sunnyslope are home to Idaho’s best wineries. Including over a dozen wineries in Canyon County, you can be sure to add wine tasting to your trip. With everything from antique furniture to collectible coins and fi ne china, you’re sure to fi nd your next dazzling centerpiece.

Rapid growth over the years has led to the bloom of Nampa’s small business community with local retail and restaurants alike. The Snake River Stampede is one of the top 10 regular professional rodeos out of approximately 800 in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association. This annual week-long event happens in the third week of July and is not only the host of one of the top rodeo competitions, but is known for its compelling rodeo clown acts, and prominent Rodeo Queen competition. With community events scheduled all throughout the summer, Nampa is more than just a location, it’s a destination!

Revitalization

In case you hadn’t noticed, Nampa has seen some recent changes to bring more vitality to downtown and beyond. The city helped ignite downtown Nampa’s revitalization. Now the streets are livened with music, people, vendors, and more. Plus, who could forget about the farmer’s market? Located in the historic Lloyd Square Park, the Nampa Farmers’ Market aims to provide a venue where local farmers, creators, crafters, and doers can fi nd a knack for their entrepreneurial spirits. This community fosters education, social gathering, and community building in the open fresh Idaho air.

Founded in 1989, John and Afi ne Relk had a vision to provide a market where friends and family could buy local food and products. Since the fi rst market on July 15th, 1989 where only three vendors showed, the “Nampa Farm and Garden Market” (as it was originally called) has grown to become a family attraction for Nampans wide and far!
