Start at the Bob Ross Experience at Minnetrista Museum & Gardens. Back in the early 1980s, landscape painter Bob Ross began taping The Joy of Painting inside the L.L. Ball home in Muncie—a humble studio that still bears the "X" marking the exact spot where he stood and painted his happy little trees.
That historic home has been lovingly transformed into an immersive museum where you can stand in Bob's footsteps, admire original paintings, and soak in his enduring message of fearless creativity. Minnetrista is the only museum outside the Smithsonian to publicly display his works.
Better yet, you can even paint in the very building where The Joy of Painting was filmed, learning Bob's signature "wet-on-wet" technique from Certified Ross Instructors®. No talent required—just a willingness to embrace happy accidents.
Then, grab your phone and hit the Garfield Trail. Garfield's creator, Jim Davis, graduated from Ball State University in 1967 and kept Garfield's headquarters and studio in Delaware County for decades.
To celebrate the lasagna-lover's 25th birthday, local artists painted and decorated four-foot-tall Garfield statues, each commissioned by nonprofits and sponsors, now scattered across Muncie and Delaware County. Tucked into the heart of downtown, Made in Muncie is more than a pottery studio.
t is a place where creativity, community, and personal stories come together in a way visitors can truly feel the moment they walk through the door.
Owner Toren Scott knows that feeling well. Before leading the studio, he once threw clay there himself. After leaving Muncie in 2004 to serve in the U.S. Navy, Toren experienced a life-altering injury during his service. Years later, the former owner invited him back to reconnect with the studio he had loved. In 2012, Toren purchased the business and began shaping its next chapter.
Today, that spirit of resilience and creativity carries through everything the studio offers.
Visitors can take pottery lessons, attend workshops, host parties, or even try independent throwing sessions at the wheel. Many guests enjoy painting pre-made pottery pieces with glaze and returning later to pick it up after Made in Muncie has fired it in their kiln.
No two visits look the same, but the goal is always the same: to create a welcoming space where people can slow down, get their hands in clay, and enjoy the simple satisfaction of making something with their own hands.
Art has long played an important role in Muncie’s identity and Made in Muncie proudly contributes to that legacy. The studio
regularly showcases work from local artists and encourages creative collaboration within the community. For Toren, supporting other artists is essential. He believes art should be accessible to everyone, not just those who already consider themselves “creative.”
That philosophy became even more meaningful in recent years, when people were eager to reconnect and share experiences again. Pottery offers a rare opportunity to be present with others— shaping clay, laughing over imperfect bowls, and creating something lasting together.
The future of Made in Muncie is growing just as much as the art created inside it. The studio plans to move to a larger space nearby, opening the door for bigger events, expanded workshops, and more opportunities for visitors to participate.
Accessibility is also central to that vision.
As a disabled veteran, Toren is especially passionate about ensuring everyone can experience the joy of pottery, with adaptive equipment designed for artists with disabilities.
For visitors exploring Muncie, Made in Muncie offers something memorable: a chance to create, connect, and take home more than a souvenir—a story shaped by your own hands.

Ball State is home to two standout venues that bring top-notch live entertainment to Muncie, offering a chance to experience everything from large-scale productions to relaxed outdoor performances.
Emens Auditorium has long been a cornerstone of the city’s arts and entertainment scene. With seating for more than 3,000 guests, it is one of the largest performing arts venues in East Central Indiana. Its stage regularly welcomes an impressive range of talent, including nationally touring Broadway productions, musicians, comedians, guest speakers, theater performances, and university celebrations.
Just a short walk across campus, the Brown Family Amphitheater offers a different kind of experience. Opened in 2023, this outdoor venue creates a welcoming space for concerts, cultural events, and community gatherings under the open sky. One of the best parts about DWNTWN is you can park once and experience a full day—or night—without ever needing your car again. Coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, breweries, entertainment, and a place to stay are all just a short walk apart.
You might catch a live band, attend a theater performance, or enjoy a drink while listening to music. When the weather’s nice, many of those moments move outdoors to Canan Commons—a downtown green space that serves as the community’s outdoor living room. It’s home to the beloved Muncie Three Trails Music Series, where nationally recognized artists perform free summer concerts under the open sky.
Art and creativity are also part of the rhythm of downtown life. During First Thursdays, galleries, and shops fill with local artists, makers, and performers visitors can meet and get a glimpse of the creative side of the city. Seasonal events like the Brink of Summer ArtsWalk and the fall ArtsWalk turn the district into an interactive celebration of Muncie’s thriving arts scene.
And when it comes to signature events, DWNTWN knows how to bring the crowd. Fire Up DWNTWN has quickly become one of the region’s biggest summer celebrations, drawing thousands with its colorful hot air balloons, smoky barbecue, spicy foods, live music, and family-friendly fun. In the spring, the Magic City Sip & Savor invites visitors to sample craft beverages, local flavors, and artisan goods.

If you hear a buzz overhead while you’re in Muncie, look up and you might just catch a model aircraft in action at the Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA). Set on more than 1,000 acres, this one-of-a-kind destination is where hobbyists, families, and aviation fans come to watch flight on a whole different scale.
Visitors can explore the National Model Aviation Museum, the largest museum of its kind in the world. The museum is home to more than 11,000 artifacts that trace the history of flight—from early models like an original 1914 Bing autoplane that has a compressed air engine to today’s drones. Interactive exhibits, simulators, and even a recreated 1950s hobby shop make it easy to get immersed.
Outside, the action continues. The AMA’s flying site hosts daily flights and major competitions like the National Aeromodeling Championships. It’s not uncommon to see skilled pilots maneuvering aircraft through the sky, or kids watching in awe as planes take off just a few hundred feet away.

Owner Mike Robinson and his partners chose this unique spot after looking at twenty different options, finding that the airport provided the perfect mix of space and community spirit.
The atmosphere is designed for fun, featuring a palette of green and orange, classic rock music, and walls adorned with records and concert posters. Robinson has taken great care to ensure the acoustics are perfect.

Over the past few years, Delaware County has quietly assembled an impressive lineup of alternative sports and adventure options, with more in the works.
The headline attraction is Muncie Skatepark at Westside Park, one of the finest new public skateparks in the Midwest. After years of grassroots advocacy, the city partnered with renowned Hunger Skateparks to design a facility worthy of the community's passion for the sport. The result—a free, 15,000-squarefoot concrete park set along the scenic White River—opened in June 2025 and has been buzzing ever since.
The layout offers something for every level: a deep six-foot bowl with tight pockets for experienced riders, a flow bowl with mini ramp for intermediates learning transitions, and a complete street section packed with out-ledges, hubbas, a euro gap, a rainbow pole jam, bank-tocurb, and more.

Delaware County is fast becoming one of the regionʼs top outdoor recreation destinations, thanks to a growing network of trails, waterways, and natural spaces known as the Blueways and Greenways.
The Blueways put you on the water. The White River winds through the heart of Muncie, with multiple canoe and kayak launches now open to the public. Outfitter Canoe Country near Daleville offers canoe, kayak, and tube rentals for all skill levels. To the southeast, Prairie Creek Reservoir provides 1,275 acres of open water for boating, fishing, and sailing.
The Greenways offer miles of scenic, accessible pathways for walking, hiking, and cycling. At the heart of the network is the Cardinal Greenway—Indiana's longest paved rail-trail at 62 miles, a National Recreation Trail, and Rail-Trail Hall of Fame inductee. The White River Greenway adds another 5.5 miles of riverside trail through parks, wetlands, and wildlife habitat, connecting to beloved nature areas like Nature Preserve and Minnetrista.
It might start as a stretch of trail or a quiet bend in the river you didn’t plan on finding. A few miles or a couple of hours later, it becomes one of those parts of the trip you didn’t expect, but you’ll want to come back to explore.

In Muncie, sports are a reason to gather, compete, and connect. The Muncie Sports Commission plays a key role in bringing those moments to life, helping organize everything from IHSAA gymnastics tournaments to nationally recognized volleyball showcases.

One of the city’s standout events is the Munciana Classic volleyball tournament.
