Welcome to Madison, Indiana!
Madison boasts an award-winning Main Street full of restaurants and stores, the largest downtown National Historic Landmark District in the United States, Clifty Falls State Park, and numerous public historic sites you can visit and tour.
Whether you’re here for a day or a weekend, the first thing we would suggest you do is buy tickets for a tour on the Madison Trolley Line. This hour-long guided experience through downtown Madison will provide an overview of the community as well as our most notable history. The tour will help you decide what you want to visit most while you’re here.
As we celebrate “America 250,”we have a few special celebrations we’d like to draw your attention to:
Hoosier Heroines Weekend, highlighting women who have a remarkable part of Madison’s history!
Madison in Bloom Patriotic Garden Tour!

The Madison Regatta, featuring our very own community-owned and operated Miss Madison Unlimited Hydroplane!
Madison BBQ Party, a brand new event building off the Madison Ribberfest legacy that will satisfy your BBQ cravings!
We hope you’ll take advantage of our services at the Visitors Center near the Lanier Mansion and at the Comfort Station on Main Street. In both locations, we offer restrooms, refreshments, a gift shop, and visitor information seven days per week!
So, rent a golf cart, take a trolley ride, or just stroll and enjoy all that our community has to offer. It is our pleasure to welcome you to our community.

Since its settlement in 1809, Madison has always had a particular charm: from the stunning architecture to the gorgeous natural scenery, our river town is imbued with rich history that leaves visitors awestruck. Madison was well-recognized in the mid-1800s with its convenient location along the Ohio River that made it an ideal trading destination in the era of the steamboat. Times were lively, the community prospered, beautiful buildings and homes were constructed, and society blossomed. However, after the arrival of the railroad, Madison’s booming growth was suddenly brought to a halt, and the town fell into a century of slumber. What appeared to be Madison’s misfortune became its legacy: today, Madison boasts the largest concentrated historic district in the U.S. With over 133 blocks of breathtaking architecture on the National Register of Historic Places and 3 National Historic Landmarks, it’s clear why Madison has been recognized as a genuine face of Historic Preservation.
Our Experience Guide will help you plan your trip and explore Madison’s beautifully preserved architecture and rich history. The cultural scene today is as vibrant as it was a century ago, and we’re sure you’ll make memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy
