ake it easy for a while. Pause the daily grind before it wears you down, and plan a vacation to a place where boats bob lazily on Lake Barkley and fishing poles bend with the weight of tugging bass. Kuttawa, Kentucky, is an oasis in the middle of a busy world. Established in 1871, it’s quiet—with a population of roughly 700—and offers plenty of activities for any budget. Visit and launch out into Lake Barkley and enjoy the area’s prime fishing areas. Or, pick up kayaks and paddleboards from Bare Feet Kayak and Paddleboard Rentals and spend a romantic afternoon gliding over the lake. Take your family or your spouse on a picturesque hike along one of the town’s walking trails. Kuttawa was named after the Shawnee word for “beautiful,” and you’ll see why as you follow 2.5 miles of winding pathway up the “mountain” to get a gorgeous view of the lake and to spot some of the bald eagles that nest in the area. If that doesn’t satisfy your appetite for nature, explore The Anderson Woodland Trail System in Silver Cliff Park - make sure you stop to take in the scenic view from the cliffs (no jumping).
Hu-B’s at Kuttawa Harbor—both marina restaurants—also open seasonally to serve delectable dishes by the water. But, if you’re in a hurry to get to the lake, you can pick up some grub at a local sandwich shop, like the Grilling Zone or Wendy’s, or, if you’re in town after hours – our All American Diner is open 24 hours to serve you! Before you leave, make sure to stop by Broadbent B&B Foods to try the award-winning ham sandwiches and grab a few souvenirs from the gift shop! There’s always something to do, eat, or enjoy in Kuttawa. Whether you’re making memories with your children or enjoying a romantic getaway with your spouse, you’ll find the right combination of relaxation and entertainment.
During the summer, take your family to the Silver Cliff Park beach area and let your children splash in the cool lake and enjoy a picnic at one of the park’s picnic tables, or rent one of the park’s pavilions with stationary grills available. When you’ve had your fill of what Historic “Old Kuttawa” has to offer, tee off at the Mineral Mound Golf Club and enjoy a full 18 holes. And as you explore Kuttawa, make sure to sample scrumptious fare at the eateries around town. The Oasis Southwest Grill tempts patrons with juicy steaks, catfish, pork chops, and more.
