The Cosmosphere is a world-renowned space museum and science education center. It is the only Smithsonian Affiliate in Kansas and it happens to be located in the heart of Hutchinson!

Not only will you find the largest combined collection of U.S. and Soviet-era artifacts--like the Apollo 13 and a flown Soviet Vostok--but you can also experience live science demonstrations daily, planetarium shows, a digital dome theater, café, gift store and the new CosmoKids interactive area!

STRATACA

Come and visit the bedrock of Kansas history at Strataca, Underground Salt Museum. One of the most unique locations in the State of Kansas, it is 650’ feet underground. Explore the old 30’s, 40’s and 50’s section of the Carey Salt Mine.

Through your self-guided tour, you will discover mining machines, marvel at movie costumes and props housed underground. Enjoy a ride on the Salt Mine Express, a train that takes you out on the original rail lines. Then, hop on a tram and enjoy a family favorite, the Dark Ride.

Try our exclusive tram ride to complete your mine experience through the maze of the 1950’s section called the Salt Safari. For another animal adventure jump on the Prairie Thunder Railroad and explore the 100 different species that can be found at the Hutchinson Zoo, located in the heart of Carey Park.

Head outdoors for some family fun at Hutch Putt, Hutchinson’s 18-hole miniature golf course. This vibrant course features a ball-in-water shot, a pipe shot, and a boulder arch for added difficulty.

Enjoy the interactive exhibits designed for children and families including climb-through prairie dog tunnels, fish feeding and a Dino Dig. Grab your bowling shoes and load up the family! The Alley Indoor Entertainment complex in Hutchinson is a must-see for visitors young and old!

The large-scale complex boasts 20 lanes for league and open bowling and six lanes for private parties or dropin bowlers. Non-bowlers will enjoy the laser-tag area, an arcade area with 80 video games, and the Spin Zone Bumper Cars!

The Hutchinson Public Library has all the resources you need from digitized books and archives to government documents and the Kansas Room, filled with genealogical and local history materials.

THE CLAYWORKS

The Reno County Museum’s collection contains over 40,000 artifacts representing farming, industry, arts & culture, and most importantly the stories of Reno County citizens.

Their five rotating galleries and interactive children’s area are sure to be an excellent experience whether you’re visiting Reno County or call it home.

Visit our interactive play area where the kids will have a blast playing in the old general store, schoolhouse, jail, and more!

RENO COUNTY MUSEUM

The Reno County Veterans Memorial represents the commitment of the citizens of Reno County to honor those who have served in our military. To date there have been 56 granite panels erected that display the names of over 14,000 Reno County veterans from the Civil War through today.

The memorial site also features the flags and emblems of all the branches of service, as well as tribute to the POW/MIA service members.

The Soldiers and Sailors Memorial, completed in 1919, is a Grand Army of Republic commemorative Civil War monument and one of only three multi-figure memorials in Kansas, combining a statue of Abraham Lincoln with statues of a sailor, and artilleryman, an infantryman and a cavalry man - representing the four branches of the Union Army.

Arkanoe is Hutchinson’s only kayak, canoe and tube rental and shuttle service on the Arkansas River. With abundant wildlife, and plenty of sandbars to explore, the Arkansas River near Hutchinson is perfect for enjoying nature's beauty close to home.

The Whitetail Acres Victorian was built in 1900. Experience the Victorian Era when you step inside and see the hand-crafted decorative woodwork throughout the house, including the u-shaped open staircase and the original stained-glass windows.

Come to relax, using the upstairs deck or one of the two patios to read. There are presently 120 acres to roam and enjoy the woods and creek, many birds, deer, pheasant, and turkey.

NJCAA MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

The NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship is held annually each spring at the Hutchinson Sports Arena.

The first official NJCAA National Championship was in 1948 in Springfield, MO. The event moved to Hutch in 1949, and has been here ever since.

PRETTY PRAIRIE RODEO July 20-23 | pprodeo.com Every summer the small town of Pretty Prairie hosts a four-day event, attended by thousands of rodeo fans from all over the world.

The rodeo, sanctioned by the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA), is known as Kansas’ Largest Night Rodeo.

The first two nights are considered family nights at the rodeo with free admission for children 12 and under, and a dance is held under the stars each night following the rodeo.

SAND HILLS STATE PARK

SAND HILLS STATE PARK

This 1,123 acre state park was established in 1974. For the first 40 years, the park was maintained as a natural sand hill park with a trail system of 14 miles.

CHENEY STATE PARK Cheney State Park offers a great weekend getaway with sailing, fishing, boating and a host of other outdoor activities and is a campers delight.

The Reservoir covers 9,537 surface acres and has 67 miles of shoreline.

Its 849-square mile drainage basin encompasses parts of three counties: Reno, Sedgwick and Kingman.

Accommodations include 223 electrical hookup sites with water available, about 400 primitive camp sites, shower houses, marina , park office and much more!

QUIVIRA WILDLIFE REFUGE Quivira National Wildlife Refuge was established in 1955 to provide and protect vital habitat for migratory waterfowl in the Central Flyway. Its 22,135 acres feature rare inland salt marsh and sand prairie.

The prairie is considered to be a diverse community of hundreds of species of plants, with many species of mammals, birds and reptiles that are prairie-dependent.

Roughly 7,000 acres of wetlands hosts thousands of Canadian geese, meadowlarks and other migratory birds as they pass through the refuge on their annual migrations.

GOWANS STADIUM

KANSAS SHRINE BOWL

Gowans Stadium is among the crown jewels of football facilities in the Midwest. This venue draws a variety of high school and college, state and national football and track championships.

The facility includes a state-of-the-art, eightlane track, ample seating capacity, new entrance gates, public restrooms, locker rooms and concession areas.

Gowans Stadium also boasts a video board, which enhances the game-day experience for fans with instant replays and highlight videos.

Annually, the NJCAA Salt City Bowl is held at Gowans Stadium. The NJCAA DI Outdoor Track & Field Championship has been held here six times and will be hosted at Gowans Satdium May 19-21.

The stadium hosted the Kansas Shrine Bowl for the first time in 2021.

SALTHAWK ACTIVITY CENTER

A modern multi-use facility, the Hutchinson High School Salthawk Activity Center is home to Hutchinson High School basketball, volleyball and wrestling programs.

Many events are hosted annually, including USA Wrestling Kansas events and various volleyball and basketball tournaments The Hutchinson High School campus features three regulation-sized basketball courts and is located directly across the street from the Hutchinson Sports Arena, bringing the total number of courts to seven between the two facilities.

Home to the NJCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship, the Hutchinson Sports Arena is one of the premier sports venues in Kansas. After a $30 million renovation, the Sports Arena has three full sized auxiliary gyms and can seat over 5,500 in the main arena.

KSHSAA has called the Sports Arena home for the 3A Basketball Championship for over 20 years.

KSHSAA 3A STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Other recent events at the Sports Arena include Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference volleyball events and the 3A & 4A State Volleyball Championship.

The NJCAA DI Volleyball Championship has been hosted at the Sports Arena four times, most recently in 2021 and will return in 2023.

PRAIRIE DUNES COUNTRY CLUB

Prairie Dunes Country Club, the legendary course known for its challenging play as well as its beauty, is a gift to the golf world from the Emerson Carey family. The private course has hosted the 2002 U.S. Women’s Open, the 2006 Men’s Senior Open and the 2014 NCAA Men’s Golf Championship.

Course honors include Golf Digest’s America’s Greatest Golf Courses (#25), Golf Week’s Best Classic Courses (#11), Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Courses in the U.S. (#18), Top 100 Courses in the World (#25) and MSN’s 30 Most Beautiful Golf Courses (#25) Carey Park Golf Course offers very reasonable rates and a relaxing atmosphere. Eighteen holes of challenging yet enjoyable golf are found at one of the best municipal courses in the state.

Crazy Horse Sports Club & Golf Course is described as a challenge in a relaxing, picturesque backdrop. The 18-hole championship golf course includes 6,650 yards of golf. The course is cut out of the sand hills and features Zoysia fairways lined with native grass.

RIVERS BANKS ORCHARD PARK

Looking for the perfect spot to play disc golf in the Hutchinson area where you can show off your skills, incorporate strategy, compete with friends and be in nature?

The newest disc golf course is at Rivers Banks Orchard Park and was developed in 2018 in cooperation with a local group of disc golfers.

This course is a moderately wooded technical course with plenty of elevation and challenging holes. It has cement tee pads, multiple pin positions and is considered somewhat cart friendly.

The 18-hole disc golf course at Carey Park winds its way along the park’s outer edge. Set around a fishing lake with a little elevation created by man-made berms, this course is mostly open with a mix of mature and new trees. The course has concrete tee pads throughout and is cart friendly. It plays host to the Salt City Open every August.

BASEBALL/SOFTBALL HOBART-DETTER FIELD A former minor league and semi-pro baseball park, this natural turf field serves as the home field for local baseball teams, including Hutchinson Community College, Hutchinson High School and the Hutchinson Monarchs.

It’s also a host site for numerous USSSA and NBC state and local tournaments and the NBC World Series.

FUN VALLEY SPORTS COMPLEX Featuring seven natural turf fields, Fun Valley Sports Complex spans 35 acres and recently went through nearly $1 million of facility improvements.

Fun Valley has hosted more than 40 USSSA world tournaments, 14 USSSA divisional tournaments and 74 USSSA NIT’s. The complex includes a large concession and merchandise area, air-conditioned sports bar, upper deck mezzanine, sand volleyball courts and a playground.

HOBART-DETTER FIELD

HAVEN The brand new Haven ballfields feature turf fields, as well as top-notch practice facilities.

Haven Public Schools have great support in maintaining high-quality athletic facilities that focuses mainly on the experience of players and fans.

BUHLER Wheatland Park Ballfield Complex is the newest baseball and softball complex in Reno County. The complex features two baseball and two softball fields, practice batting cages, and a brand new concession stand.

FUN VALLEY SPORTS COMPLEX

CROSS COUNTRY COURSES Westar/Prairie Ridge Park, the 5-kilometer cross country course, winds around 200 acres of vacant land between Prairie Hills Middle School and Dillon Nature Center. This course provides a beautiful, scenic trail with a mix of hills and flat areas for joggers and walkers.

Hutchinson's newest cross country course is located at Fun Valley Sports Complex. This course is a 1-mile loop around the complex with a path that consists of a mix of grass, and dirt service road crossings and is completely flat.

Spectators can view nearly the entire race from the stands located in the center of the facility. This course can be utilized for night meets with the field lights being used to light the course.

Chester I. Lewis Plaza Hutchinson’s newest plaza is located in Downtown Hutchinson and is named after a local civil rights attorney who fought against segregation. Lewis is depicted in the left-most mural, Brendan Martinez’s “Justice of All Trades Lewis,” alongside elements of the Hutchinson municipal flag.

The center mural was created by Rebekah Lewis and Josh Tripoli, of Lupoli Collective in Wichita. It showcases key images that are unique to the Hutchinson area in a postcard-style design.

Rice Park The park features a walking path that visitors can easily access the Jim P. Martinez Sunflower Trail and the many activities available at the park. Rice Park has three baseball and softball fields, which include one high school baseball field and two baseball/ fastpitch fields. In 2017, the newest splash pad opened, making it a popular family attraction.

Rivers Banks Orchard Park One of Hutchinson’s newest parks, it encompasses 72 acres and continues to be developed. One unique feature is The Winwoods Enchanted Playground, which is designed to be enjoyed by children of all ages and abilities. Set among fantastical characters, it includes special slides, swings, a teeter-totter, and xylophones the children can play.

Located in Hutchinson's Southwest Bricktown Neighborhood, this park is one of the newest in town. The park features brand new play equipment, outdoor pavillion, walking path, and a zip line.

YODER THE QUIET LITTLE TOWN OF YODER

When the town of Yoder was founded by Eli Yoder in 1889 it was considered to be the hub of the surrounding Amish community. Today, Yoder is still considered to be that. Though many businesses and homes have moved in around Yoder, the picturesque town has stayed that same size, and is only 15 minutes away from Hutchinson.
