Forestiere Underground Gardens

Everyone loves a hidden gem. In Fresno, you will find a place that is literally underground. Wander through the winding tunnels of Forestiere Underground Gardens, a home and garden hand-dug in the early 1900s by Baldassare Forestiere. WINTER

If you think winter is dreary and boring, you clearly haven’t experienced a Fresno County winter.

Celebrate the holidays by hiking out to the General Grant Tree in Kings Canyon National Park, also known as the Nation’s Christmas Tree, or visiting the Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s IllumiNature Christmas and Lunar New Year holiday exhibits.

MUSEUMS

In Clovis’s Veterans Memorial District, learn about the city’s dedication to honoring veterans, and stop by the Clovis Heritage Museum or Clovis-Big Dry Creek Museum to travel back in time to when the city was first founded and learn about our cherished traditions like the Clovis Rodeo.

The California 9/11 Memorial commemorates the lives lost on September 11, 2001. The memorial is the largest of its kind outside of New York City.

At Arte Américas, Latinx arts and cultures are celebrated year-round with various exhibits featuring international art and culinary as well as musical events.

In spring, experience the Kingsburg Swedish Festival, which pays homage to the town’s early settlers’ Swedish roots and now celebrates all cultures living in Kingsburg.

Late summer travelers can experience Fresno Greek Fest, where the city’s Greek community spends a weekend celebrating their heritage with music and food, or Fiestas Patrias, a colorful festival held in Downtown Fresno celebrating Hispanic culture.

Each December, spend time at the largest Hmong New Year celebration in the country!

No one does breakfast like Jus’ Jo’s Country Kitchen in Clovis, where their famous cinnamon rolls are a must-try. Patio Café is an iconic spot for brunch in Fresno. Their menu changes depending on in-season produce, and their mimosas are delicious. For the best chilaquiles in town, you’ll want to visit Las Mañanitas in Fresno.

For lunch, pick local fast-casual favorite Heirloom in Fresno where you’ll get gourmet salads and sandwiches. Mad Duck Craft Brewing Co. is another must-visit. With four locations in Fresno and Clovis, the brewpub has great burgers, sandwiches, and hops.

GETTING HERE

Fresno is home to the only international airport in California’s Central Valley. The Fresno-Yosemite International Airport has non-stop flights to 15 major cities. Access Fresno and Clovis by car when you take State Route 99 and Interstate 5 or by train via Amtrak.

WHILE YOU’RE HERE

Get around using ride-share apps, Fresno Area Express (FAX) buses, the Clovis RoundUp, or by FresnoHop, Fresno’s free trolley service. The trolley runs at select locations on Thursdays from 5 pm to 12 am, and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 pm to 1 am.

YARTS - BUS RIDES FROM FRESNO TO YOSEMITE

Visiting Fresno County in the summer? Take the Yosemite Area Transportation System (YARTS) bus route from Fresno to Yosemite National Park. Riders can easily access the park and enjoy the scenery in a comfortable, air-conditioned bus without worrying about finding parking.
