Three Rivers Festival What Fort Wayne festival would you recommend to visitors? The Three Rivers Festival in July has something for everyone. Personally, I love going to the river events and junk food alley!

What’s your favorite Fort Wayne hangout? The Deck by Halls – I enjoy sipping a Salty Dog while sitting on the banks of the St. Mary’s River.

What should visitors absolutely not miss? The Wells Street Bridge is a beautiful piece of history that offers a great view of the river. It is one of the only 19th-century truss bridges remaining.

What do you recommend to visitors? As someone interested in the arts, I often recommend the wonderful architecture in the Downtown area (Calhoun Corridor, the Allen County Courthouse, and the Lincoln Tower) and our amazing street art.

Where do you take visiting friends and family?

Cookies for Every Occasion CookieCottage.com

508 Noble Drive Fort Wayne

260-471-6678

Visiting friends and family are normally taken to one of our historic restaurants, (Henry’s, The Gas House, Coney Island or Cindy’s). I also really like to show off our parks and trails system as they link some of the most beautiful areas in town.

What should visitors absolutely not miss?

Headwaters Park is a location that I highly recommend. It is a wonderful place to walk and it links a lot of different parts of the city together since it is a central part of our trail system. From Headwaters, you can visit the Old Fort, Lawton Park, Fort Wayne Outfitters, or Hall’s Gas House to get out on the river via boat, kayak or canoe. 55

Insider Insight Aimee Nelson Head Giraffe Keeper, Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo

What should visitors absolutely not miss? I may be biased, but I think guests should not miss an opportunity to visit the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo! As one of the best zoos in the nation, our amazing creatures will capture your heart from sting rays to Sumatran tigers to Tasmanian devils!

Where’s the best place to enjoy the arts in Fort Wayne? The Embassy Theatre showcases some amazing performances throughout the year. We enjoy the Fort Wayne Ballet and Fort Wayne Philharmonic performances!

What should visitors not leave town without? Visitors should not leave town without having the unforgettable experience of feeding our giraffes! Being up close and personal with the world’s tallest mammals is awe-inspiring. They love all that lettuce too! 71

What’s Fort Wayne’s best-kept secret? Fort Wayne has a huge amount of family-friendly, free events like Make Music Day, Taste of the Arts and GearFest, where you can experience something enriching for everyone and not spend a dime!

What is your favorite Fort Wayne thing to do? Taking my kids to the Fort Wayne Children’s Zoo is a staple for my family. We’ve had a membership for years, and try to get there anytime we have the desire to “unplug” and walk around with our kids.

Where do you take visiting friends and family? In the summer, we love going to see the Fort Wayne TinCaps at Parkview Field. In the winter, it’s “Go Komets!”

Terrence Jackson

Chocolatier, DeBrand Fine Chocolates

Where’s the best place to enjoy cocktails? The bartenders at The Golden make an outstanding drink! Afterwards, I always like to stop by DeBrand Fine Chocolates next door for some gourmet chocolates!

What’s Fort Wayne’s best-kept secret? The Castle Gallery! There is a small art gallery a little west of downtown Fort Wayne, and it is absolutely amazing. You’ve got to go and check it out! 76 I VisitFortWayne I 2017
