COTTON EYED JOE Each week, thousands of people enjoy Cotton Eyed Joe’s 2,500 square foot dance floor. Cotton Eyed Joe is billed as the hottest nightclub in Knoxville and is known as one of the hottest clubs in the country.

In 2018, the club won the prestigious ACM Nightclub Of The Year. The club continues to bring customers great concerts, MMA fights, and line dancing lessons. The national anthem is played every night, followed by the club’s theme song, Cotton-Eyed Joe. Cotton Eyed Joe offers a fabulous menu of food and drinks, and its décor is unique featuring a DJ booth that is an actual semi-truck. Put your cowboy skills to the test by riding the famous mechanical bull! With its landmark neon sign over I-40, the Cotton Eyed Joe is a can’t-miss attraction.

Family Friendly ATTRACTIONS COOL SPORTS is East Tennessee’s #1

indoor ice rink and sports destination.

Cool Sports has the area’s best indoor ice and turf facilities, including an NHL sized ice surface, basketball court, and indoor turf fields. Cool Sports offers ice skating, hockey, soccer, and flag football programs, public ice-skating times, birthday parties, summer day camps, holiday events, and private rentals.

SIR GOONY’S has mini golf, paintball, sportsland, and go-karts. During the summer, Sir Goony’s hosts events and SplashZone on their recreational fields. Look for the famous orange Tyrannosaurus Rex.

BOARD AND BRUSH offers an opportunity to make personalized wood signs. B&B turns guests into “DIY masters” by teaching them to understand and appreciate the beauty of raw materials. How do YOU spend a day in Farragut?

My friends travel to Farragut from other parts of the state to shop in Turkey Creek.

It has everything there. We shop at our favorites like Marshalls and Belk, and the local favorites, the Consignment Shoppe and Elliott’s Boots. We also never miss an opportunity to have dinner at Seasons. It is a great way to spend the day.

What is your favorite Farragut special event?

We have raised all 3 of our kids in Farragut. When they were younger, we couldn’t miss the Freaky Friday Halloween event. It’s so much fun and well organized. As a date night, my wife and I love the lawn chair concert in Founders Park. We take a meal and enjoy live music in the park. With older children, our very favorite is Light the Park. It is simply magical.

CAMPBELL STATION INN The Inn served as a favorite stopping place for families, hunters, and stock drivers passing through Knoxville. Recognized as one of the earliest Inns in Tennessee, the 200-year-old Campbell Station Inn has been an integral part of Concord-Farragut history. The property was originally acquired by Col. David Campbell in the 1780s as a land grant of 500 acres for his service in the Revolutionary War. During the Civil War battle of Campbell’s Station, the home sheltered both Union and Confederate

Although opposing forces first confronted each other briefly at Loudon, it was just the start of the race to Knoxville. Under General Burnside, the Union troops arrived first with barely enough time to set up defenses on the high ground near the present day intersection of Concord Road and Kingston Pike. After six hours of heavy fighting, the Confederates failed to break through the Union defenses.

FARRAGUT MUSEUM This treasure chest of artifacts and photographs tell the history of the Farragut and Concord communities. One of the highlights is the Admiral David Glasgow Farragut collection. Admiral Farragut was born in this area on July 5, 1801 and was the first commissioned admiral of the United States Navy. He is best known for saying, “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,” during the Battle

Many of the early pioneer settlers of this community – noble men and women who endured the trials and hardships of pioneer life – are buried within its grounds. Notable among those buried in Pleasant Forest are Archibald Roane, Second Governor of Tennessee; and Lieutenant Thomas Boyd, Revolutionary War veteran who was with George Washington at Valley Forge in 1777.

We love the people here, the great schools, the superb shopping, and the nice restaurants. We love that people still care about their neighbors. It’s close to the University of Tennessee, the Great Smoky Mountains, and so many lakes, but Farragut has its own charm.

Our GREENWAYS Farragut boasts over 25 segments of greenway trails, totaling approximately 20 miles, that connect neighborhoods and provide great places to ride a bike, walk, run, roller blade, etc. Public parking is available at the Town’s four longest trails. Many of the links are connected by streetways.

Located on Grigsby Chapel Road, the trail connects several neighborhoods.

An additional 0.25-mile segment, located behind Farragut Primary School, connects the trail at the corner of Grigsby Chapel Road to Founders Park. Parking is available at the Town’s commuter lot located at 11700 Campbell Lakes Drive (off Campbell Station Road) or Founders Park. This greenway is connected by neighborhood streets and a sidewalk to an additional 0.9-mile greenway along Everett Road.

Where is the best place to exercise?

My wife and I are runners, and we are thankful for the Farragut greenways. The greenways give us a shaded, nice place to run.

Our favorite is the Grisby Chapel Greenway and its connection to Founders Park.

Our COMMUNITY CENTER The community center offers space for programming and rentals, including two classrooms, and a middle school-sized gymnasium.

The community center also features a beautiful Assembly Hall, an event venue that can seat 144 people at tables with a pre-function area and catering kitchen.

Who is DAVID FARRAGUT? David Glasglow Farragut (1801 – 1870), born near the Town of Farragut, had one of the most extraordinary childhoods possible. He became a midshipman in the United States Navy at age nine. At 11, he was capturing pirates in the Caribbean and traveling around the world in the War of 1812. He served in the MexicanAmerican War, and he rose to the rank of captain at the outbreak of the Civil War. He commanded two of the most brilliant naval battles of the war: the Battle of New Orleans and the Battle of Mobile Bay. Farragut’s great contributions won him the rank of admiral, the first in US Naval history.

During the Battle of Mobile Bay, Union forces’ strategy was a blockade of military and other supplies. Farragut led the blockade and secured himself to the rigging.

He managed the whole fleet from the top of a mast. When he heard the warning cry, “Torpedoes ahead!” Farragut’s response was historic:

The FOUNDING of FARRAGUT The Town of Farragut and the City of Knoxville are the two municipalities located in Knox County, Tennessee.

Farragut is located just 16 miles west of downtown Knoxville.

This area of East Tennessee, now known as Farragut, was originally part of Campbell’s Station, a fort and stagecoach station built in the late 1700s.

The nearby community of Concord, located along the Tennessee River, became a bustling commercial site when the railroad arrived in the mid 1800s. In the 1880s, Concord became the center of a large Tennessee marble production industry and was eventually the second largest community in Knox County. But it never incorporated, and the decline of the marble industry and the loss of land due to the creation of Fort Loudoun Lake significantly reduced its population.

By the 1970s, new subdivisions and businesses were being built along Kingston Pike in the southwest corner of the county, closer to the interstate than Concord.

Prior to becoming a municipality, Farragut residents were governed by Knox County. Residents were frustrated with flooding, poor road conditions, and lack of development standards. In 1978, a small group of residents formed the Farragut Community Group and focused on creating a town government with deliberate planning, oversight of zoning and development, road construction, stormwater systems, and public facilities.

The Farragut Community Group petitioned Knox County for a referendum vote in Fall 1979 and received a landslide victory. The Town was officially incorporated on January 16, 1980 and the first Board of Mayor and Alderman was elected on April 1, 1980. To this day, the Town of Farragut remains true to its founding values and thrives without a municipal property tax.
