It’s been a long winter season and temperatures have been all over the place, but we’re ready for a TRUE spring and summer season to enjoy all of Delco’s beautiful outdoor spaces, places, and events!
This issue showcases many of Delaware County’s wonderful outdoor spaces including Linvilla Orchards, Chanticleer Gardens, Tyler Arboretum, Brandywine Museum of Art, Brandywine Battlefield Park, Ridley Creek State Park, and Subaru Park. It also explores Rose Tree Park’s Summer Festival, Dining Under the Stars, and our local wineries and breweries.
Read through to learn about venues for live music, where to enjoy some delicious cuisine, cultural celebrations, and outdoor adventure There is no shortage of places to explore, music to hear, food to savor, art to enjoy, and celebrations to join.

Haverford College Arboretum encompasses the entire collegiate campus which, in addition to scholastic buildings, includes 216 acres of mature oaks and maples, specimen trees, flowering trees, and natural woodland areas.

5 Ways to Explore Delaware County
Family Friendly Tour
No family trip to Delco is complete without a visit to Linvilla Orchards. Pick your own fruits and veggies, go fishing, visit the barnyard animals, or take a seasonal hayride Looking to have a ball? Then use your head and make it a goal to get to a Philadelphia Union soccer game at Subaru Park. Get your tickets early to Upper Darby Summer Stage - one of nation’s oldest and most successful youth theater programs Every summer a group of young thespians delight audiences with six, family-friendly children’s theater shows and a Broadway-quality mainstage production
College Tour
Looking to tour the best colleges and universities in the Greater Philadelphia region? Visiting college campuses is a significant summer activity for many high school students and their families and Delaware County is the perfect home base to explore many (75 within 20 miles!) of them Delco is home to 13 colleges and universities including Neumann University, Penn State Brandywine, Swarthmore College, and Villanova University – to name a few

Arts Tour
Delaware County’s arts scene is as diverse as our population Prepare to be dazzled by Broadway-caliber performances at The Media Theatre and Hedgerow Theatre. Wander through Brandywine Museum of Art and marvel at the mesmerizing brushstrokes of the Wyeth family Enjoy cover bands, dance ensembles, concert orchestras, and more, and head to the Rose Tree Park Summer Festival outdoor concert series, happening Wednesday through Sunday evenings from mid-June to mid-August
Outdoors Tour
With thousands of acres of county park land, a state park, national wildlife refuge, and numerous gardens and arboretums, it’s easy to connect with nature in Delco Tyler Arboretum’s renowned plant collections and heritage and champion trees are celebrated by gardeners, botanists, and birders alike. Ridley Creek State Park offers acres of woodlands and meadows with a creek (and waterfall!)
meandering right through the middle and a variety of paved and unpaved trails John Heinz Wildlife Refuge at Tinicum, tucked in the county’s eastern corner, is an urban oasis for a rich diversity of native fish, wildlife, and plants.
History Tour
Delco has a rich history and pioneering spirit with dozens of historic buildings and sites to explore. Tour Brandywine Battlefield, site of the largest engagement of the Revolutionary War Newlin Grist Mill is part living history museum, part environmental education center, and the perfect combination of Delco’s heritage and beauty The Colonial Pennsylvania Plantation, tucked away within Ridley Creek State Park, is a living history museum, allowing visitors to experience life as it was more than 200 years ago.

May – September 28: Every Wednesday (weather permitting), the Borough closes State Street to vehicular traffic from 5-11pm This allows Media’s great restaurants and shops to set up outside for the biggest, most fun, alfresco shopping, and dining event around
Wayne Art Center Plein Air Festival
May 7-12: This juried event celebrates the art of plein air Groups of painters gather to paint at single locations or within certain geographic boundaries These popular “Paint Outs” give artists a chance to share their talents and creativity with the public and with one another
Jasper Street Jam: American Roots Pt.1
May 13: Join Media Arts Council for their first block party of the summer MAC is putting together 4 awesome concerts this summer, and American Roots Pt 1 is up first Check their calendar for upcoming concerts the 2nd Saturday of each month through October!
Haverford Spring Fest
May 14: This free annual celebration is a great chance to get to know local artisans and musicians Kids will love the lineup of inflatables, face painting and other activities For grown-ups, there are beer gardens, and a whole lineup of scrumptious treats from local vendors

Linvilla Orchards Strawberry Festival
June 3: Linvilla is a great place to be all year, but one event you should mark on your calendar is the annual Strawberry Festival You can pick your own, but don’t leave without sneaking a peek at Delaware County’s largest strawberry shortcake, made by Linvilla’s own bakery
13th Annual Italian American Heritage Festival
June 4: Since 2010, the Italian American Heritage Festival has drawn more than 30,000 people from the Greater Philadelphia region to enjoy a day celebrating Italian heritage and culture at Rose Tree Park
Havertown Irish Festival
June 10: Widely referred to as the 33rd County of Ireland, Havertown celebrates all things Irish in music, dance, cuisine, craft, and culture
Upper Darby Pride Festival
June 10: A celebration of pride for the LGBTQAI+ community in Delaware County This fun day in the heart of Upper Darby has music, live entertainment and performances, children’s activities, food vendors, and more!

Wayne Music Festival
June 10: This festival attracts more than 10,000 people each year with its lineup of local and regional acts More than 75 local restaurants and vendors are also on site for this day of music and fun
Linvilla Orchards Food Truck Frenzy
June 17: Linvilla Orchards partners with local food trucks, to bring you a food-tastic event! Along with delicious treats from the trucks there will be music and fun for the whole family!
Delaware County’s Juneteenth Celebration
June 19: Delaware County commemorates and celebrates Juneteenth at Rose Tree Park The event will feature live music, activities for kids and families, food, resources for the community, and much more!
Rose Tree Park Summer Music Festival
June 21 – August 20: Held at a scenic outdoor amphitheater at one of Delco’s most beautiful parks, this festival’s programming is so eclectic that you never know what you’re going to get - from classical to Cajun, Motown to rock or Broadway and everything in between
Linvilla Orchards Blueberry Festival
July 8: In early July, the local blueberry season is typically in full swing You can pick your own blueberries from acres of bushes and the blueberry pie eating contest is the highlight of the day!
Community Arts Center Tie Dye Music Festival
July 15: CAC pulls out all the stops for this annual mash-up of live music and tie-dye creativity Shirts and other tie-dye-able items can be purchased at the event, but you’ll get off cheaper if you bring your own!
Summer Fan Jam
July 22: Kelly Music for Life presents a free event in Havertown’s Merwood Park featuring live music, food, vendors, kid zone, and more!
Linvilla Orchards Peach & Sunflower Festival
August 5: Celebrate National Peach Month In addition to 30 acres of peach trees, there are acres of sunflowers creating a magical and breathtaking experience
Haverford Township Music Festival
September 9: Featuring popular and rising artists, representing various musical genres, from the greater Philadelphia area and beyond
Newlin Grist Mill Archaeology Festival
September 9: A day of archaeology fun and discovering the rich archaeological heritage that lies beneath our feet! Activities include “Kids Dig” and Pottery Assembly, archaeology displays & exhibits, food vendors, and more!
Historic Chadds Ford Days
September 16-17: Chadds Ford Historical Society takes a historical journey back to September 11th, 1777, when the British army engaged Washington’s troops at Chads’ Ford Two timed skirmishes and a firing demo will take place each day
Marcus Hook Pirate Festival
September 17: Experience a full pirate encampment with period tents and showcases of crafts, firearms, and cannons Also featuring live pirate music, pony rides, a petting zoo and so much more

On the first Sunday of the month, Brandywine Museum of Art offers free admission to the galleries. Delaware County Institute of Science welcomes the public on Thursdays and the Pennsylvania Veterans Museum, and the Sports Legends of Delaware County Museum are both admission-free (but accept donations)
Stop And Smell The Roses
Scott Arboretum’s Dean Bond Rose Garden holds over 300 roses, displaying over 170 different types The Arboretum is free and open to the public from dawn to dusk, 365 days a year.
