People have been making signs and markings on walls for centuries, in places you would least expect it! Street art on drainpipes, electricity poles, lampposts, walls and in all corners: stencils, templates or stickers, art installations in the middle of the street, sprayed tags and drawings, comic strip walls, papiers-peintres (Bonom, Space Invader, Idiot, Crayon, Roa) and more; from ‘graffiti vandals’ to a fully-fledged Art Movement, street art can be found in many streets and squares.

Due to public demand, the city and government are helping to integrate street art into the city. The ‘comic strip buildings’, painted by the non-profit association, ‘Art Mural’ ¬- an ode to the 9th art, make Brussels truly unique. Whether it is graffiti, a mural or other weird and wonderful art in our city centres, there is something for all tastes. After all, ‘art inspires the imagination’.

COMIC STRIPS IN BRUSSELS

The main theme of this walk through the centre, are the many paintings on the side of buildings created by the non-profit association, ‘Art Mural’, which are dotted here and there in the area surrounding the main city square (Grand Place), Bourse and the Cathedral.

Famous cartoon figures such as Guus Flater, Nero & family, TinTin and Snowy, Rik Ringers, Rozebottel or the Scorpion all make an appearance. Along the way, the guide also takes you past comic shops and numerous buildings and monuments in Brussels that either play a role in or feature in the comics. As we follow the route, the comics will provide an insight into the use of important locations in the comic strips. The comics museums found in Brussels will also not be forgotten.

Those who don’t mind stretching their legs a little further can go to Rue des Fabriques and Rue de la Buanderie, where the most beautiful comic strip murals can be found.

It indicates the authors and their works and familiarises the children with the various schools of artistic expression. COMICS IN THE CENTRE

How is a comic strip created? Who works on creating a comic strip and what do they do? The answers can be found on this tour that takes past the dazzling fireworks where the story of Rozebottel is told and where it is possible to visit some of the buildings or statues used in comic strips. As such, the ‘Manneken Pis’, one of the most famous Brussels landmarks you will see on the route, has a link with this art. Possibility to take a quick detour to the comic wall of Hergé and TinTin as well as passing by Rik Ringers and Nadine, Marc Sleen and Nero, Ragebol and Catherine and the spy, Sackville.
