As we cruise into summer we all want to go to the beach! That’s always a perfect place to end a tour of our lovely island but let’s start at the beginning. This edition takes us back in time with wonderful reflections of our history and heritage.

Preserving the Past The Barbados National Trust is the island’s protector of natural and artistic heritage sites, which include cemeteries, gardens, historic houses, nature reserves, park areas, windmills and coastal areas. Founded in 1961, the Trust has been working diligently in the preservation Migue l Pena, Bar bad os Nat io nal of many architectural treasures, each with their Tr ust own distinctive story in Barbados’ heritage timeline.

General Manager of the Trust, Miguel Pena, is proud of the work his team has done over the years in the preservation and restoration of many properties, some of which were bequeathed to the Barbados National Trust by the owners. With a dozen of these historic wonders listed as Barbados National Trust sites, there are numerous stories waiting to be discovered by the heritage-seeker. There are also many open house events that give visitors the opportunity to tour some of the exclusive private homes on the island.
