This year’s Pan-American Research Day (PARD) is not to be missed. This exciting event is scheduled to take place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, from 12:00 – 6:30 pm at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel, Seattle, Washington. This event is sponsored through a generous grant from Allergan. Over 90 speakers were chosen to present their ARVO accepted abstracts at this year’s meeting.

There will be two keynote lectures:  André Romado, MD (Brazil) – Clinical State of the Art Optical Coherence Tomography – And Future Directions  Miguel N. Burnier Jr. MD, MSc, PhD., FRCSC (Canada) – Patient care, Teaching & Research: A United Team at the MUHC – McGill University Eye Pathology Laboratory A total of four travel awards sponsored by industry leaders and private foundations will be awarded this year.

Afterwards, speakers and attendees can relax and discuss the business of the day at the reception which is immediately to follow.

Dr. Andre Romano currently practices at the Vision Institute, Federal University in São Paulo, Brazil. He is also an adjunct professor at the University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine.

Dr. Miguel Burnier Jr. was the Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology, McGill University (1993-2008). He was also the Thomas O. Hecht Family Chair in Ophthalmology (1996-2012). Dr. Burnier is currently the General Director of Training & Development of the McGill University Health Centre Research Institute.

Dr. Burnier received his MD and completed his residencies in Pathology and Ophthalmology in Brazil.

He also completed his MSc. and a PhD. in Ocular Pathology at the Federal University of Sao Paulo, Brazil. After his first Pathology fellowship at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology (AFIP) Washington, DC, Dr. Burnier returned to Brazil and became the Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology, Federal University of Sao Paulo (19861989). In 1989, Dr. Burnier returned to the US as a Professor and as a Senior Scientist working at both the AFIP and the National Eye Institute, Bethesda, MD until 1993 when he was recruited to McGill.

Dr. Burnier is the Director of the Henry C. Witelson Ocular Pathology Laboratory. Over 125 fellows from different countries have passed through Dr. Burnier’s lab.

Dr. Burnier is the author and co-author of over 500 publications. He is distinguished with several national and international awards. He has served as Guest Speaker and Visiting Professor at many national and international conferences.
