Defence Minister Visits IDEAS 2012 Mr. Naveed Qamar, Federal Minister of Defence visited IDEAS yesterday, the third day of the event as the Chief Guest of the day. While on his visit he went to the pavilions, halls and stalls and met delegates, country representatives and exhibitors. He showed particular interest in the exhibits displayed at the stalls of M.B.D.A, Thales, City links, Integrated Dynamics (ID), DIEHL, Russian Helicopters, Kestral and Pakistan Machine Tool Factory.

At the moment the drones being developed are more focused on surveillance and reconnaissance, but constant testing is taking place to increase the applications of the UAV products, added Mr. Qamar.

PAF Takes Keen Interest in Havelsan

Two types of planes developed and manufactured by Pakistan Aeronautical Complex (PAC), namely the Super Mushak, a trainer plane and a third generation fighter plane JF 17 Thunder are receiving the most international attention. Potential sales and work orders worth forty million US$ are under negotiation and on the process of finalization. These orders are mostly being put forth by countries from Africa and the Middle East.

Havelsan, an investment of Turkish Armed Forces Foundation, is a global software and systems integration company, serving in IT and defence markets worldwide. They met high ranking officials of the Pakistan Air Force who showed great interest in Havelsan s core capabilities that lie in C4ISR, Simulation and Training Systems, Interoperability and Management Information Systems fields. A Memorandum of Agreement and an exclusive Teaming Agreement between Havelsan and the Pakistan Air Force is due to be signed very soon, for collaboration on their on R&D projects and Simulation & Training Systems of JF-17, F16, C-130 Super Mushak and MI-17 respectively.

At the moment PAC is preparing Pakistan Air Force s requirements for making squadrons and fulfilling PAF s needs, once that is done within a year or two, it will turn its attention towards commercial exports. Once our birds are ready for Pakistan s own needs and replacing its older versions of aircrafts, we will be commencing our export activities, said Air Cdre (R) Suhail Salim, Director Sales and Marketing of PAC Kamra. JF 17s potential orders are more than a hundred in number, as it is proving to be the lowest cost fighter aircraft of the third generation internationally. Here at the IDEAS 2012 more than 19 official delegates from various countries have shown keen interest in purchasing the plane and discussions are in order. PAC has countless potential orders lining up, and There is a rising demand which we are gradually absorbing according to our capacity, Air Cdre (R) Suhail adds.
