Virginia Museum of History & Culture - 2024 Holiday Catalog
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
As we all begin looking ahead to the holidays, the Virginia Museum of History & Culture is pleased to share with you this special gift guide. Within, you will find history-inspired gifts, great books, and many one-of-a-kind, Virginia-made items. This gift guide also offers the opportunity to complete your shopping list all while supporting a great cause—Virginia’s oldest museum and one of the finest in the nation.
As a private, non-profit institution, the VMHC receives no government operating support. It is through your generosity, your visitation and engagement, and—yes—your shopping, that we are empowered to fulfill our timeless mission of connecting people to America’s past through the unparalleled story of Virginia.
You know the value of our shared history. We hope that you will choose to support the VHMC this holiday season by shopping with us—at the museum or online. Thank you and happy holidays!
Thank you,
Jamie O. Bosket President & CEO

2024 OFFICIAL VIRGINIA HISTORY
Featuring a moonlit, holiday sleigh ride through a blanket of freshly fallen snow to Natural Bridge, one of the Commonwealth’s most iconic landscapes, with its 200-foot tall, limestone archway carved by the flowing waters of Cedar Creek. Taking inspiration from paintings of Natural Bridge housed in the Virginia Museum of History & Culture’s extraordinary collection, the ornament also commemorates the 250th anniversary of Thomas Jefferson acquiring the site in 1774.

VIRGINIA MAKERS TURNED WOOD
Quantities are limited. Each piece is one of a kind!
Richard C. Hines is a self-taught woodturner who grew up watching his father and grandfather build boats on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. Today, his bowls and enclosed vessels are made primarily from native Virginia woods selected for their unusual color and grain. Mr. Hines strives to highlight the characteristics in the wood that others might consider flaws. Working carefully with the wood, he lets it dictate the form, but uses his own design ideas and artistic skill to transform the wood into a finished work of art.

VIRGINIA MAKERS POTTERY
Emerson Creek Pottery
Since 1977, Emerson Creek has had the goal of creating functional art. They believe the ceramics you have in your home should be functional, beautiful, and long-lasting. All of their products are created by artisans in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains from non-toxic ingredients sourced from North American suppliers. All of their pottery is microwave, oven, and dishwasher safe, and is lead and cadmium safe to keep your family protected.
Alexis Courtney creates hand-crafted functional wares with an emphasis on minimalist shapes and modern designs under the name East Clay Ceramics. She’s been working with clay since 2005, finally settling in to the craft in 2016 with the creation of East Clay. She is a ceramics educator and co-owner of Hand / Thrown, a community oriented studio that opened in 2018 in Richmond, VA.
