From the Editor
May always feels like a shift. It is the space between a full spring and the start of summer, where everything begins to come full circle. School years wrap up, milestones are celebrated, and the pace of life picks up in the best way. It is a season that reminds us how much can happen in a short amount of time.
In this issue, we are proud to highlight Casey Forshag as our Community Leader, recognizing the impact of thoughtful leadership and a continued commitment to growth across the Northshore. We also celebrate Emily Leonhard as this month’s Supermom, a reflection of the balance, strength, and presence so many women carry daily. And in true Social Northshore fashion, we shine a light on the NABOR 2025 Awards recipients, honoring excellence across our local real estate community.
And while Mother’s Day may have already passed by the time this issue reaches you, it would be incomplete not to acknowledge the mothers who shape so much of our community. The way they lead, support, and show up in both quiet and defining moments is something worth recognizing, not just one day a year, but always.
There is a quiet strength woven throughout these pages. It shows up in leadership, in motherhood, and in the way our community continues to support and celebrate one another. As always, thank you for being part of Social Northshore. Whether you are marking a milestone or simply enjoying the rhythm of the season, we are glad you are here.

CASEY FORSHAG
For Casey Forshag, building homes has never been just a profession. It is a calling rooted in family, tradition, and a deep respect for the community he serves.
As Chairman of the Northshore Home Builders Association since January 2025, Casey has stepped into a leadership role that reflects both his experience and his long-standing commitment to responsible growth across the Northshore.
In his role as Chairman, Casey works closely with Executive Officer Jenny Dexter to guide the organization’s strategic direction. He also serves as a key voice for the industry, meeting regularly with parish leaders and building officials to discuss ordinances, development strategies, and the future of housing in the region. His focus remains clear: to advocate for smart, sustainable growth while protecting opportunities for homeownership.

Casey’s journey into construction began long before his career officially started. Inspired by his grandfather, John L. Crosby, he knew from an early age that he wanted to build homes. After earning a degree in Construction Management from LSU, he trained under his uncles, learning the craft of quality construction and fine homebuilding. In 2010, he launched his own path in Lafayette, where he also met his wife, Sally. Today, the couple runs Forshag Construction together, combining their strengths to bring each project to life with precision and care.
What Casey values most about his work is the transformation of vision into reality. Each home represents more than a structure. It is a space where families will create memories, celebrate milestones, and build their lives. That perspective continues to fuel his passion, even as the industry faces ongoing challenges.

Rising construction costs, high interest rates, and regulatory hurdles have made affordability increasingly difficult. At the same time, a shortage of skilled labor presents long-term concerns. Casey is a strong advocate for trade education, emphasizing that meaningful and successful careers can be built outside of traditional college paths.
Despite these challenges, Casey remains grounded in what matters most: trust, transparency, and craftsmanship. He believes clear communication and honesty are essential from the very beginning of every project. Beyond his personal experience, he carries forward generations of knowledge that continue to shape his approach to building.
Having lived on the Northshore since 2007, Casey deeply values the area’s sense of community, safety, and quality of life. He and Sally are raising their three children here, fully immersed in the lifestyle that makes the region so special. Whether spending time on the Tchefuncte River, at Money Hill, or along the Gulf Coast, family remains at the center of it all.
Community involvement is also a defining part of Casey’s leadership. Through the Northshore Home Builders Charitable Trust and partnerships with organizations like Habitat for Humanity St. Tammany West, he continues to invest in the future of the parish. For Casey, the legacy is clear. The homes he builds today are meant to stand for generations, strengthening the community long after the work is done.

MOUNT HOPE COURT 508

Tucked within TerraBella Village, 508 Mount Hope Court is a newly built residence that reflects both timeless architectural influence and modern livability. Completed in 2025, the single story home offers 2,104 square feet of living space, with three bedrooms, two and a half baths, and a thoughtfully placed office nook just off the laundry area, adding an extra layer of functionality to the home’s design.
Photos by Eugenia Gangi of NOLA Real Estate Marketing and Photography

Designed by renowned residential designer Andy McDonald and built by Statement Builders LLC, led by Roy Mouledous, the home draws strong inspiration from Greek Revival architecture, paying tribute to the craftsmanship of 1860s New Orleans. The exterior reflects this influence through a palette of off white stucco, Old Chicago brick, and light blue Hardie siding. Architectural details such as the custom front door and surround, premium decorative hardware, and a simple yet elegant fireplace mantle reinforce the integrity of the period while keeping the home approachable and current.
Inside, the design balances traditional elements with modern selections, creating a space that feels both classic and livable. The main living and kitchen areas flow seamlessly, giving the home its open, balanced feel that so many visitors notice immediately. The kitchen serves as a central anchor, featuring a full height quartz backsplash, under counter lighting, period style edging on the countertops, upper cabinetry, an oversized pantry, designer pendants, and a large island with a center sink that supports both everyday use and entertaining.
The home was decorated by Mary Beth Michel, whose background in textile, apparel, and merchandising from LSU informs her layered approach to interiors. While she considers herself a decorator, her ability to bring a complete vision to life is evident throughout. That vision is elevated by the staging from Niche Modern Home, which enhances the flow and scale of each space.
Some of the most memorable rooms highlight this attention to detail. The powder room creates a moody, dramatic moment with its rich brown walls, gold hanging light, and coordinating gold mirror. In contrast, the laundry room blends beauty and practicality with grey and white textured wallpaper, a detailed tile floor with a subtle diamond accent, and a spacious, highly functional layout. Just beyond, the office nook adds a practical yet unexpected design element to the home.

The primary suite introduces a more distinctive finish palette, featuring metallic faux snakeskin wallpaper, full mirrors, double sinks, and decorative hardware. Throughout the home, engineered light oak flooring is paired with ceramic tile in wet areas, creating a cohesive balance of warmth and durability.
One of the most compelling aspects of the home is its courtyard, which creates a true indoor outdoor connection. This courtyard effect draws you outside and reinforces the home’s natural flow, making it easy to envision the kitchen, dining, and outdoor areas as the most lived in spaces. In a community like TerraBella Village, known for its walkability and thoughtfully designed setting, 508 Mount Hope Court offers a lifestyle that feels both elevated and effortless.

Direct FROM THE GROWERto You

The idea for Garden Spot of Mandeville began decades ago when Judy King started growing ferns in greenhouses on her property, in Bush, Louisiana. Ferns take a while to grow to a size in which they are sellable and so Tommy, King’s husband, started growing vegetables to sell since they are faster and smaller. It was at this time he realized the potential of growing annuals and perennials and selling them to friends.
Word began to spread and people from all over started coming to the greenhouses in search of beautiful plants. They eventually had the idea to open The Garden Spot of Franklinton, an outdoor store created to sell locally grown, quality plants. The store became very popular, enticing people from all over and so the King’s decided to open a store in Mandeville to reach a larger audience.
Thus Garden Spot of Mandeville was born and today both locations are run by Tommy and Judy’s daughter, Sandy, and her husband Tony. Just as they started, annuals and perennials are still grown at the local greenhouses and both locations continue to serve their communities well with high quality, locally grown plant materials and expert customer service.
Garden Spot of Mandeville is a family-owned retail garden center, offering customers a wide selection of high-quality products. Our annuals and perennials are grown at our nursery located in Bush, Louisiana, and our shrubs and trees are sourced from local nurseries so you can rest assured that your plants are coming directly from the grower to you.

Ms. Amanda PIGRENET
TEACHERfeature
Who in your life influenced your decision to become a teacher?
I was influenced by all the teachers I had growing up. Their support, patience, and kindness made a lasting impact on me, and they showed me how important it is to create a positive and encouraging environment for students. Because of them, I felt inspired to follow in their footsteps and become a teacher myself.
What is your biggest challenge as a teacher?
My biggest challenge is finding a healthy balance between my work as a teacher and my life outside of the classroom. I care deeply about my students, so I’m always working to give them my best while also making sure I stay balanced and present in my own life.
What do you find most rewarding about teaching?
The most rewarding part of teaching first grade is watching my students grow in confidence as they learn to read, write, and become more independent. I love seeing those lightbulb moments in first grade, when a student realizes they can do something they once found difficult.
How do you make learning engaging and fun for your students?
I make learning engaging by getting to know my students’ personalities and tailoring lessons to their individual learning styles, so they feel connected, confident, and excited to learn.
If you could leave your students with one lasting message, what would it be?
If I could leave my students with one lasting message, it would be to always believe in themselves and know they are capable of more than they think.

SUPER MM
Emily Leonhard
At nearly 32, Emily K. Leonhard is living a season that many women understand well: beautiful chaos. As a wife, mother, business owner, and private speech-language pathologist, she is balancing family life and professional purpose with grace, grit, and heart. With the arrival of her second daughter this week, Emily’s world has grown even fuller and even sweeter.
Emily is the owner and lead SLP of Southern Oaks Pediatric Therapy LLC, a private mobile practice providing pediatric speech and feeding therapy services across homes, schools, and community settings. Her work is rooted in neurodiversity-affirming, child-led care, helping children communicate, connect, and thrive in ways that honor who they are. It is deeply meaningful work, and one she feels called to do.
At home in Covington, life is just as lively. Emily and her husband, Brett, share their home with their two-year-old daughter Walker, lovingly nicknamed “walkie-talkie,” their newborn daughter Collins
Camille, and three dogs named Miller, Rooster, and Goose. It is a household filled with motion, laughter, and love.
Emily describes being a working mom in one honest word: chaos. But not the kind that overwhelms her. Rather, the kind she has always thrived in. She embraces the fast pace of motherhood and entrepreneurship, knowing both roles allow her to pour into the people who need her most. She spends her days nurturing her own children while also helping families across the Northshore find support, progress, and hope for their children.

She hopes her daughters grow up seeing more than a busy mother. She hopes they see a woman with vision, discipline, and courage. She wants them to understand that dreams are worth pursuing and that women are capable of building meaningful careers while building meaningful families.
One of Emily’s greatest lessons has been redefining the idea of “having it all.” For her, it does not mean perfection. It means knowing where your attention is needed most in each moment and giving yourself fully to that space. Some days that looks like motherhood. Some days that looks like leadership. Most days, it looks like both.
Professionally, she is most proud of the impact her business has made in the community. Whether helping a child become more understood through articulation therapy or guiding a family toward communication tools that open new doors, Emily knows every milestone matters.

When her daughters one day reflect on childhood, she hopes they remember that even during the busiest seasons, they were always her priority. And perhaps they will remember the family’s treasured morning and night songs, lovingly updated as each new baby or puppy joined the chorus.
Emily Leonhard is proof that strength can look soft, success can look nurturing, and motherhood can be one of the greatest leadership roles of all.

Amanda & David
Photos by Josh Williams
Some love stories arrive quietly, while others are built through resilience, laughter, and the courage to begin again. For Amanda Burr and David Shackelford, their wedding day was more than a celebration. It was the joyful merging of two lives, two families, and a future shaped by gratitude and hope.

The couple dated for three years before saying “I do” on May 24, 2025. Their proposal was as unexpected as it was unforgettable. During a trip to New Orleans, the pair enjoyed one of their favorite pastimes: eating their way through the city. After dinner at Deanie’s Seafood, David insisted on stopping for donuts. Amanda, already full, could not understand his determination. Later, while relaxing on the balcony of their Airbnb overlooking Magazine Street, he once again offered her a donut. When she declined, slightly annoyed, he dropped to one knee, pulled out a ring, and said, “Well, how about a ring instead?” Completely surprised, Amanda laughed through tears and happily said yes.
Their wedding day perfectly reflected their personality: heartfelt, meaningful, and full of character. The ceremony took place at New Orleans Pharmacy Museum, followed by a reception at the Bevolo Gas & Electric Lights Museum.

Amanda wore a satin, backless slip-style gown that embodied understated elegance. Their color palette featured layered greens, shades of blue, and vibrant pops of pink, creating a celebration that felt fresh and joyful.
One of the most memorable parts of the day was how family-centered it truly was. David’s brother officiated the ceremony, bringing humor and warmth to the moment. Amanda’s favorite memory came when her eight-year-old son walked up to do a reading after clearly being left to his own devices long enough to lose his jacket and untuck half his shirt. His goofy walk to the front brought laughter and perfectly captured the relaxed, love-filled spirit of the day.
What made this wedding especially moving was the story behind it. Amanda, a widow, entered this marriage carrying both love remembered and hope renewed. David lovingly embraced not only Amanda, but also her two sons and the extended family that came with them. Her boys, ages eight and five at the time, walked her down the aisle and proudly led the second line, symbolizing the unity of their new chapter together.
Instead of one traditional cake, the couple served three small cakes in berry Chantilly, lemon Chantilly, and red velvet flavors, each one a guest favorite. Though they have not yet taken their honeymoon, they returned home to Miami and hosted the grand opening of their business just two weeks later.
Today, Amanda and David share life in Miami with their two children, a dog, and two kittens proving that sometimes the sweetest beginnings come after life’s hardest chapters.

DR. MORGAN COOKMEYER GENERAL SURGEON
