SOCIAL COASTAL

From the Editor

Summer on the coast brings everything to life—sun-soaked days filled with the kind of energy that only comes when people gather to make memories. At Social Coastal, we’re fortunate to be right in the heart of it all—celebrating the people who make this community so special and the events that blend fun with purpose.

We’re excited to feature Mayor Ralph Hellmich and his vision for Foley’s future, along with the beautiful wedding of Madison Kruk and Cody Edgemon. In New Directions, we highlight a local leader stepping into public service, a seasoned banker entering a new chapter, a dynamic new Beachballer joining our friends at Beachball Properties, and the launch of a new design center by the talented team at Luna Beach Interiors.

We’re also thrilled to introduce Meagan Mims as the newest member of our team! Since launching Social Coastal, we’ve been hoping for a team player like Meagan—someone to support the communities we showcase in Social Coastal and share in the fun of what we do. A proud Orange Beach local, Meagan brings a true heart for community. If you see her around, be sure to say hi—you’ll love her as much as we do.

The PLACE to be SEEN Coming Soon

RALPH HELLMICH Leading Foley Forward Mayor

Mayor Ralph Hellmich has consistently helped shape Foley into a place where families thrive, businesses grow, and progress is balanced with preserving the charm that defines the city for more than twenty years. Under the theme “Your Mayor. Your Voice”, Hellmich’s leadership is rooted in thoughtful planning, accessibility, and a strong connection to the community he has called home his entire life.

Throughout his time in office, Hellmich has prioritized real, meaningful improvements across the city. He has focused on improving four key areas: infrastructure, public safety, education, and quality of life.

To improve infrastructure, Hellmich partnered with Baldwin County and ALDOT to upgrade 27 intersections and implement a smart traffic signalization program. He has also championed pedestrian safety in all corners of Foley with more than 10 miles of new sidewalks, the addition of solar-powered crosswalks, and securing key Federal and State safety grants to help stretch the city funds even further.

Under his leadership, Foley has become one of Baldwin County’s safest cities. Investments in fire equipment, police technology, and public safety education programs for youth have helped ensure the city is well-equipped to serve a growing population. New fire stations and expanded police facilities reflect his forward-thinking approach.

Education has also been a top priority. Working with the Baldwin County Board of Education, the city increased annual funding to local schools by $600,000. These funds have helped raise ACT scores at Foley High School and opened new pathways for students interested in public safety careers. For Hellmich, investing in education is about empowering the next generation to thrive right here in Foley.

Quality of life has seen tremendous gains as well. The city has added hundreds of acres of parkland, upgraded facilities with energyefficient lighting, and broken ground on a $20 million library and a community center. Plans for a new aquatics center, a civic center and World War II heritage museum continue to move forward, highlighting his commitment to community and culture.

“To ensure Foley remains a safe, thriving, and welcoming community,” said Hellmich, “I’m here to listen and be your voice, working to ensure leadership is responsive and effective for everyone.”

Hellmich’s service to Foley spans more than two decades, including over 16 years on the City Council, which included and time as Mayor Pro Tem. A Certified Municipal Official, he

has served on numerous local boards and committees, always working to support Foley’s growth and success.

A graduate of Foley High School and the University of Alabama, Hellmich is a lifelong resident dedicated to his hometown. He and his wife, Jo McGill Hellmich, have three children and one grandchild—and a deep-rooted love for the community they serve.

GRAND OPENING

Legendary Marine at Waterway Village celebrated its Grand Opening with a week-long series of exciting events designed to welcome the community and showcase everything they have to offer. Highlights included Ladies at the Helm, a special event empowering women to gain confidence on the water and an informative fishing seminar for anglers of all skill levels. Guests enjoyed twilight boat showings, where they could explore the latest models under the glow of sunset, and capped off the festivities with a lively crawfish boil and live music. A silent auction was held, with all proceeds benefiting The Arc of Gulf Coast Alabama, supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Grand Opening was not just a celebration—it was a meaningful way to connect with the community and give back.

THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY’S MISSION IN ACTION F ighting Cancer, Changing Lives

F or over a century, the American Cancer Society (ACS) has led the fight against cancer, providing hope, support, and lifesaving resources to patients and families. Through advocacy, research, and patient support, ACS works tirelessly to ensure that everyone has access to the care they need. The 24/7 Helpline (1800-227-2345) ensures that no one faces cancer alone.

Impact in Baldwin & Mobile Counties

In 2024 alone, ACS provided 1,948 nights of lodging, 566 rides to treatment, and over 14,000 services to local patients. ACS has also granted over $77,000 to healthcare partners such as Infirmary Health, USA Health, and Southern Cancer Center to assist with transportation and lodging costs—critical barriers to treatment.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM LOCAL ACS EVENTS YEAR TO DATE

The inaugural Shuck Cancer Baldwin County raised an impressive $110,000. Held at Oak Hollow Farm in Fairhope, the event featured raw and cooked oysters from local restaurants and farms—including Admiral Shellfish Company—along with other delicious food, great wine, craft beer, and a specialty cocktail courtesy of Tito’s Handmade Vodka. Guests enjoyed a lively atmosphere with silent auction items and raffle prizes donated by generous local businesses, plus live music from The Wrong Terns.

The Mobile Chili Cook-Off returned for its 36th year on Canal Street, between Washington and Broad Streets, raising funds to support local cancer centers in providing transportation and lodging assistance for their patients. Presented by Infirmary Cancer Care, the event exceeded its fundraising goal, bringing in over $208,000. In addition to mouthwatering chili and brews, the family-friendly event featured live music and a kids’ corner, offering fun for all ages.

UPCOMING FUNDRAISING EVENTS HOW YOU CAN HELP

Community involvement is at the heart of ACS’s success. From donations and volunteering to corporate partnerships and advocacy, every contribution makes a meaningful impact. Local businesses and regional healthcare providers play a vital role in supporting ACS’s mission— removing barriers to treatment and funding groundbreaking research.

MEILUNAS Eileen

What does your new design center mean for your team and clients?

It’s a dream realized. We now offer more custom options—wallpaper, fabrics, rugs—and our designers have space to be even more creative. It’s a big step from our original small showroom.

How do you balance high-end design with relaxed coastal style?

We listen closely to each client’s vision. That lets us tailor the design to their taste, whether that’s modern coastal, traditional, or somewhere in between.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned?

Perseverance. We survived 2008 by believing in our vision and team. My Wall Street background taught me that no one succeeds alone. I’ve built a team with true talent and heart.

What sets Luna Beach Interiors apart?

We focus on service. Whether it’s a color consult or a full remodel, we make the process seamless. From homeowners to condo associations, we’re here to help bring every space to life.

Owners of Luna Beach Interiors, Eileen and Michael Meilunas, dreamed of launching a design firm and building a life in Orange Beach. After careful consideration, they left their successful Park Avenue careers to make that dream a reality in 2006.

Now one of the region’s top firms, they offer fullservice, approachable design with timeless style and personalized service. Their work spans residential, commercial, and model home projects, recently expanding with a new design center.

JOHN TATER HARRIS

I’m a business owner, community volunteer, and proud Baldwin County resident. I’ve called this place home for the past 14 years, and I’m running for County Commission because I care deeply about our future. I started Gulf Coast Rental Co. from the ground up, and I understand the hard work it takes to build something lasting. I want to bring that same work ethic and real-world experience to serve the people of District 4.

Why are you running for County Commission?

Baldwin County is growing quickly, and I want to make sure that growth benefits the people who already live here. We need leadership that listens and acts in the best interest of the entire community—not just a few.

What makes you the right person for the job?

I bring practical experience. I’ve run a successful business, managed large construction projects, and worked within tight budgets. I know how to solve problems and get things done without wasting time—or taxpayer dollars.

Candidate for Baldwin County Commission, District 4

What issues matter most to you?

Improving roads and infrastructure, protecting property rights, and supporting our first responders and county employees are top priorities. I’m committed to keeping Baldwin County’s growth smart and sustainable— reducing high-density development and preserving the character of our communities, eliminating unnecessary bureaucratic hurdles, and making sure local voices guide our future. I’ll also stand strong to keep decisionmaking where it belongs—with the people of Baldwin County.

How do you stay involved in the community?

I serve as Chairman of the Orange Beach Public Safety Committee and sit on the board of the Coastal Alabama Business Chamber. My wife and I also support the American Heart Association and co-chaired their 2025 Art for Heart Gala.

What does Baldwin County mean to you?

It’s more than where I live—it’s home. I’m raising my family here, and I’m committed to protecting what makes this county such a special place. taterharris.com

and BUILDING HOPEhomes

CHRIS FARLOW

Chris Farlow has led the Baldwin County Home Builders Association’s (BCHBA) Charitable Foundation as its President since 2018. In his role, Chris ensures meetings stay on track but emphasizes that real impact comes from the collective work of the board and staff, who are dedicated to carrying out the Foundation’s mission: supporting educational and charitable efforts in housing. By awarding scholarships in construction fields, assisting in workforce development, helping rebuild communities after disasters, and creating housing for first responders and veterans, the BCHBA Charitable Foundation aims to improve the lives of Baldwin County residents and beyond.

One of the Foundation’s first major projects was “A Home for a Hero,” where they built a mortgage-free home for Sergeant Paul Douglas Rains, a veteran injured by an IED in Iraq. Supported by over 200 sponsors, the home, located near Daphne, was completed in 2015. Following Hurricane Ida in 2021, Chris and the board provided hot meals and gift cards to families in the small Louisiana community of Cut Off, helping them recover after the storm. The Foundation has also awarded over $135,000 in scholarships for construction students and managed numerous local projects to build wheelchair ramps, repair roofs, and make homes ADA-compliant.

The most recent large project was “Home Sweet Home,” completed in partnership with the PR Foundation led by Panini Pete and community volunteers in 2022. This initiative provided Johnny Stewart, the son of a disabled veteran, and his wife Krystal with a safe, mortgage-free home after his lifelong residence had become hazardous.

Next on the Foundation’s agenda is the development of Warrior Legacy Ranch, a 24/7 facility providing peer-to-peer mental health support for Baldwin County veterans. This first-of-its-kind center will include a 1,500-square-foot multipurpose building, and future expansions will feature a 7,000-square-foot reunion space for veterans to reconnect with their military families. Chris and the Foundation, together with the PR Foundation, are actively raising funds and support to bring this vital project to life.

Chris’s deep connection to the industry, where he has spent over 25 years, fuels his commitment to the Foundation’s work. He and his wife Jennifer moved to Fairhope in 2001, seeking a high quality of life for their family, which now includes their two daughters, Veronica and Tatum and Lexi Grace, their Australian Shepherd. Living on Fish River, Chris enjoys nature, gardening, and annual traditions like a daddy-daughter fishing trip to the Chandleur Islands with his daughter, Veronica. His career as a builder remains a passion, as he believes a home is much more than a structure— it’s a foundation for families and dreams.

Caroline Robertson Legg lives in Orange Beach, Alabama, with her husband, Hollis, and their dog, Tulla. A graduate of the University of Alabama with a degree in Political Science, she began her career in New Orleans as a Major Account Executive for ADP. Now Vice President of Employee Benefits at HUB, Caroline excels in leadership and client relations. She serves on the board of Art for Heart and is a member of Impact 100 Baldwin County/Mobile. In her free time, she enjoys boating and traveling with her husband.

How do you help businesses navigate rising healthcare costs while maintaining competitive benefits packages?

We help businesses navigate rising healthcare costs through propriety cost containment solutions and contracts. We work one-on-one with our clients to ensure maximum benefits that meet the fiduciary needs of the organization.

How important is long-term planning when it comes to employee benefits, and how do you help businesses develop a 3–5 year benefits strategy?

Long-term planning is essential to the overall financial health and performance of the organization. We collaborate closely with executive leadership and HR to address challenges on the spot and establish achievable objectives for our long-term strategy.

What advice would you give to companies looking to improve their employee benefits program?

My advice would be to ask yourself one question: What is the cost to your organization as a result of inaction on improving your employee benefits program? Employee benefits are one of the main determining factors for retaining and recruiting employees.

HUB International advises businesses and individuals on how to reach their goals. When you partner with HUB, you’re at the center of a vast network of risk, insurance, employee benefits, retirement and wealth management specialists who bring clarity to a changing world with tailored solutions and unrelenting advocacy. KATE MOORE

After moving to Gulf Shores in 2023 to be closer to family, I knew purchasing a Statemint franchise was the perfect way to start fresh. For years, I ran a design studio and wholesale stationery company in Knoxville. Little did I know when I helped create the branding for Statemint’s franchise expansion, I was designing something for my own future. Now, I get to connect with incredible women, help them refresh their closets, and put money back in their pockets—it’s a dream come true.

At Statemint, we believe in sustainable shopping and supporting women in our community. Our charity presales give early access to the best deals while benefiting local organizations, like Flourish, which empowers young women in Baldwin County. Even our unsold items are donated to teens in foster care. We also host a teacher pre-sale, allowing educators to shop early as a small token of appreciation for their hard work.

I married my sweetheart, Rob, a Mobile native, in 2005 on the sands of Orange Beach. We have two amazing sons, Finn (16) and Hollis (13), and being their mama is my greatest joy. I ran my design business while homeschooling them for years—a challenge that was absolutely worth it. Working for myself has given me the flexibility to be present for the little things that matter most. Now living near family, our boys ride their bikes

to their grandparents' house, and we often enjoy dinners with my brother-in-law and my sister-in-law, Shannon— one of Statemint’s biggest cheerleaders, and someone I'm incredibly grateful for.

I’m also full of gratitude for the friendships I’ve built teaching fitness classes at the Gulf Shores Rec Center every morning. I teach Barre, HIIT, Core, and Kickboxing to a remarkable group of people that have become my community. Many of these sweet women even help me at Statemint events!

Examining my life, I realize how far I’ve come. My boys have seen me take risks, chase dreams, and embrace every challenge. More than anything, I hope they always know that God is always good and that every success in life is because of His grace and kindness.

Being committed to many meaningful pursuits, I remind myself daily that time is fleeting. Life will never slow down, so I choose to be present, revere every moment, and live with intention. This is the creative, full, beautiful life I prayed for—and I’m grateful for every single bit of it.

Statemint Mobile recently wrapped its first sale April 30 – May 4, and Statemint Eastern Shore is coming back to the Fairhope Civic Center, August 13 – 17! &MADISON CODY

Madison Kruk and Cody Edgemon’s love story has been decades in the making. Their journey began on Ono Island in 1996 when they were neighbors—Madison just three and Cody four. Their early friendship consisted of fun playdates, including driving around in Madison’s Barbie Jeep. When Cody’s family moved to Fairhope, they lost touch, only to reconnect 20 years later when Cody walked into Madison’s parent’s house. It didn’t take long for sparks to fly again.

After dating for six years, Cody proposed at the same pier in Gulf Shores where they had their first date. He told Madison, “This is where we ended our first date six years ago, and this is where I want to begin the rest of our lives together.” Surrounded by rose petals and candles, Madison’s response was filled with joy and tears.

PHOTOS BY ASHLEIGH DONNELLY DESIGNS

Madison’s wedding dress, designed by Pnina Tornai, was the perfect reflection of her modern and bold style. During a trip to New York, she tried on multiple dresses, but nothing compared to the dress that made her emotional from the moment she slipped it on. After receiving her mother’s approval, even though it was over budget, the dress was hers. It was a special moment, as they also met the designer herself.

The couple's wedding, held at Kiva Dunes, was a reflection of their love and personalities. The venue held special meaning as Cody's dad developed the property, and this was the first wedding ever held on the golf course. Three days of wedding festivities kicked off with a Halloween Welcome Party, featuring a Grilled Oyster Bar and a Build-Your-Own Grilled Cheese Station.

Madison’s vision for the wedding was modern, fun, and untraditional. “I wanted it to reflect my style, so instead of an archway or flowers, we had huge silver spheres at the ceremony. For the reception, I envisioned white palm trees, floating silver orbs, flower arrangements in the pool, and mirrored disco balls. My bridesmaids wore white, guests wore black. At the reception, we had a custom 10-foot DJ booth. A surprise from my parents included Fat Heads of our Golden Retrievers, and water guns filled with tequila!" Guests partied into the night, some even ending up in the pool by the end of the evening.

The wedding cake, designed to resemble Madison’s wedding dress, featured three tiers with Biscoff Cookies, blueberry-lemon filling, and vanilla-strawberry layers. The modern vibe continued with rice paper resembling waves and fishnet detailing, capturing the essence of the beachside venue.

Guests were greeted with a Champagne Bar, followed by a reception menu featuring Filet Mignon, Grilled Chicken over Orzo Cream Sauce, Shrimp and Grits, Mixed Vegetables, Roasted Potatoes, and Caprese Salad. The open bar served specialty frozen drinks, Butter Pecan Bushwhackers, Margaritas, Pina Coladas, and Daiquiris.

The newlyweds enjoyed a short honeymoon getaway at The Grand Hotel in Point Clear and are looking forward to a more extensive trip to the Amalfi Coast in Italy this May. Madison and Cody call Gulf Shores home, and they are ready to begin the next chapter of their beautiful story.
