Live Music Venues United for the Circulation of Emerging Artists Allan McGowan am@vip-booking.com

Fabien Miclet

Three music projects that have been successful in gaining funding after applying to the European Union’s Creative Europe initiative were presented at Reeperbahn, following panels that discussed the place of popular music within the European Commission’s plans for Creative Industries. Besides Liveurope featured here, Michal Brenner of the Meetfactory in the Czech Republic, and Julia Osada of the European Music Council explained the plans for their long term projects – we’ll look at those again in a future issue. In the meantime the multi venue project fronted by Fabien Miclet at Brussel’s Ancienne Belgique involves people and places quite familiar to VIP News and our readers…

In this perspective, the Liveurope Platform aims to build a wider and more diverse audience for European music, and to fully unleash the potential of our continent’s immense artistic potential. The Platform’s ambition is to establish itself as a beacon of excellence in the field of live music in Europe. This initiative is indeed designed not only to help music artists developing their careers, but also to develop genuine enthusiasm among music fans, and to become a true European success story. However, politics often go alongside some pitfalls. And in Berlin in particular there are plenty of them. But let’s cut the story short. The departure of BMW has been initiated by the former promoter, when the subsidies of 500.000 Euro per year from the Berlin senate controlled Kulturprojekte GmbH were withdrawn and handed over to the Musicboard Berlin. This organisation receives subsidies of 1 million Euro per year and was launched in January 2013. As usual for the launch of such a public body, the inauguration process

One of these is the take over of Eventjoy, a “Do It Yourself” (DIY) online platform to manage concerts. The service also includes, beside ticketing functions, “social marketing analytics, and customer engagement tools”. In particular Eventjoy is considered to be strong in terms of its ability to serve mobile communication devices. In terms of partnership agreements the company announced a deal with Music Management International (MMI) in the Philippines. In recent years the national promoter presented acts such as Maroon 5, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, Katy Perry and Bruno Mars. The last reported share price in VIP News was $21.72, on September 26 it stood at $23.96.
