Owner of Bestival goes into administration From VIP-Daily News Two of Britain`s biggest music festivals could be axed after the company behind them went into administration. Organisers of Bestival and Camp Bestival say they are facing “financial challenges” and are looking for a new partner for next year. VIP News: Don’t you fear that those who already receive subsidies, thanks to the EU subsidiarity principle, will get even more money, thus causing unfair competition between highly funded and unfunded organisations, companies or projects? Rönkkö: The Commission’s ultimate goal is to strengthen the EU’s political and financial support for the sector, one point being that it enhances the competitiveness of Europe’s music sector on the international market. I believe that through MME we can have a word also about what kind of changes we would need for the principles that the programme would support the market and its healthy, vital competition in the most effective way. VIP News The bureaucratic and formal burdens to apply for funding as part of the current programme, Creative Europe, are very high. Would you recommend to revamp such procedures for MME or do you think, this is nearly impossible as Brussels by nature is and remains a hotspot for administrative law? Rönkkö: I know that not only the cultural sector but also the others have talked about the difficulties with the heavy and time consuming bureaucratic and formal burdens

Viagogo sues Kilimanjaro Live From VIP-Daily News Switzerland-based Viagogo have issued legal proceedings against Kilimanjaro Live over the company’s decision to cancel thousands of tickets for Ed Sheeran’s concerts purchased through the ticket resale site. Viagogo accused Kilimanjaro’s chief executive, Stuart Galbraith, of “confiscating thousands of genuine tickets at the gate, forcing fans to buy new tickets, and pocketing millions of pounds in duplicate sales”. The ticket reseller said Galbraith had previously used Viagogo to sell “thousands of tickets to a range of his artists’ events, presumably without their knowledge”.

Per Kviman elected Chairman of EMMA From VIP-Daily News The European Music Managers Alliance announced that Per Kviman and Virpi Immonen have been elected as the organization’s first Chair and Vice-Chair. The election took place at EMMA’s first formal board meeting, which took place during the Reeperbahn festival in Hamburg. Kviman is CEO of Stockholm-based Versity Music and currently serves as the Chair of the Music Managers Forum in Sweden. Immonen is CEO of the Helsinki-based Fullsteam Management, and the Chair of MMF Finland, as well as music supervisor for the upcoming animated television program Moomin. Speaking before a meeting of more than 50 music managers from over 20 countries, Kviman said: “I am honoured to serve as EMMA’s first Chair, and would like to thank Keith Harris in particular for his guidance and expertise. This organization was established in response to some fundamental changes in our business, and to reflect the plain fact that artists and their representatives must now be at the forefront of discussions about the future of music. It’s time to seize our moment and put artist and creator rights at the heart of European music policy.” “How inspirational to be elected at Reeperbahn, surrounded by music managers from around Europe and the rest of the world. Through EMMA I look forward to building these connections, and ensuring we not only have a powerful unified voice for our artist clients, but also a pathway to greater sharing of skills, knowledge and ideas,” Immonen added. Launched in April 2018, EMMA brings together music manager organizations from the UK, France, Sweden, Netherlands, Poland, Norway and Finland with similar organisations in Australia, Canada, New Zealand and South Africa. The organization is intended to give artist reps a stronger voice in decisions that will shape the future of the global music industry.
