MusikMarkt to close down From VIP-Daily News The German music business magazine “musikmarkt” is going out of business after nearly 60 years. According to a letter from chief editor Stefan Zarges the last issue will be published in July and the website will be taken offline. “It is with great sadness that we are announcing the closing of ,musikmarkt`,” said Stefan Zarges. ”It was a hard decision but in spite of new ideas, business models and permanent adjustment of the market we`re approaching the point where we cannot sustain our business.” Founded 1959 by the publishing house Josef Keller Verlag near Munich, “musikmarkt” was a pioneering publication for the German music charts in the 60`s. Over decades it has become the leading music business magazine in the German speaking countries, has been publishing a monthly issue with features, interviews, background information and market analysis. Current news has been published online at www.musikmarkt.de and distributed to music industry professionals via daily newsletter. “`musikmarkt` had been taking part in all the ups and downs of the music industry and made music history by itself,” Zarges said. “After years of crisis and pessimism the industry succeeded to reinvent themselves, which made us feel optimistic about the future. It is a great pity that we cannot support these positive developments anymore.” The chief editor wrote at the end of his letter: “I would like to express my sincere thanks to our partners for our good and trustful cooperation in recent years and wish them success and all the best for the future.”
