Europe has a real wealth of language: 23 official languages and over 60 indigenous communities that speak a regional or minority language, not to mention languages spoken by citizens from other countries and on other continents.

Precisely to draw attention to this immense linguistic richness, the European Union and the Council of Europe launched in 26 September 2001 the initiative "European Day of Languages "

European Day of Languages wish to: • to draw citizens' attention to the importance of language learning; • to make them aware of all the languages spoken in Europe; • to encourage language learning.

Why a European Day of Languages?

• Because there are more opportunities to study or work in another European country • Because Europe is a space of linguistic diversity - over 200 languages are spoken

Why is it good to learn a foreign language?

• Helps to understand cultures and people who speak other languages, • It is easier to learn foreign languages during childhood,

Why is it good to learn a foreign language?

• career opportunities increase, • Increases school performance, • develops the brain and memory.
