Drăguț Violeta Liceul Tehnologic Costești În puterea nopţii, mulţi dintre evreii din Iaşi şi-au găsit sfârşitul. O parte dintre aceştia au fost urcaţi într-un tren cu direcţia Călăraşi, unde au ajuns după cinci zile. Restul au fost trimişi cu un tren de marfă la Podu Iloaiei. O distanţă parcursă în maximum jumătate de oră a fost făcută de acest „tren al morţii" în nouă ore, sub un soare care ardea teribil. După nouă ore de calvar, trenul a ajuns la Podu Iloaiei. Dintre cei aproape 2.000 de evrei numai 800 au ieşit în viaţă. Evreii supravieţuitori au rămas la Podu Iloaiei până în noiembrie 1941, când au fost eliberaţi. Chinul supravieţuitorilor a continuat însă, căci au trebuit să îngroape morţii din vagoane sub ameninţarea soldaţilor înarmaţi. „Aruncam cadavrele în gropi comune şi turnam var deasupra, sperând în fiecare clipă că nu vom fi noi ultimul strat. Până la urmă, nimeni nu a mai murit la Podu Iloaiei". La 30 iunie 1941, Gara Podu Iloaiei a fost capătul traseului unui "tren al morții". În dimineața acelei zile a plecat din Iași un tren de marfă cu aproximativ 2.000 de evrei ieșeni deportați de autorități, două treimi dintre aceștia murind din cauza extenuării și a deshidratării în cele opt ore cât a durat drumul. La Podu Iloaiei, când s-a oprit trenul și au trebuit să coboare, s-a constatat că majoritatea erau morți, iar cei care supraviețuiseră arătau ca niște cadavre vii. Cei care au scăpat cu viață au fost cazați la familiile evreiești din localitate. În timpul nopții au fost descărcate cadavrele din tren și așezate pe marginea șinelor, iar a doua zi au fost aduși evreii supraviețuitori pentru a-i încărca pe morți în căruțe și a-i duce la cimitirul evreiesc din localitate unde au fost îngropați în gropi comune.

Teacher Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School In the middle of the night, many of the Jews in Iași found their end. Some of them were boarded in a train with the direction of Calarasi, where they arrived after five days. The rest were sent by freight train to Podu Iloaiei. A distance of at most half an hour was made by this "train of death" in nine hours, under a sun that burned terribly. After nine hours of ordeal, the train reached Podu Iloaiei. Of the nearly 2,000 Jews, only 800 survived. The surviving Jews remained at Podu Iloaiei until November 1941, when they were released. But the survivors' grief continued because they had to bury the wagon dead under the threat of armed soldiers. "We threw the bodies into common graves and poured whitewash above them, hoping at every moment that we will not be the last layer. After all, nobody else died at Podu Iloaiei ". On June 30, 1941, Podu Iloaiei train station was the end of a "train of death". In the morning of that day, a freight train with about 2,000 Jews from Iaşi deported from the authorities departed from Iași, two thirds of them dying due to exhaustion and dehydration in the eight hours that the travel lasted. At Podu Iloaiei, when the train stopped and they had to get off, it was found that most were dead, and those who survived looked like living corpses. Those who escaped alive were accommodated with Jewish families in the village. During the night the bodies were unloaded from the train and placed on the edge of the rails, and the next day the surviving Jews were brought to load the dead into carts and to take them to the Jewish cemetery in the locality where they were buried in common graves.

Trenurile au circulat pe aceleaşi rute timp îndelungat. Se mai opreau, în unele staţii, unde erau descărcaţi morţii.

Veteranul de război Ştefan Cucu se afla la Târgu Frumos, şi a asistat aici la descărcarea cadavrelor. El povesteşte că, din pricina căldurii, unele trupuri intraseră în putrefacţie şi, odată mişcate, pur şi simplu plezneau.

Trains have been on the same routes for a long time. They stopped at some stations where the dead were unloaded.

War veteran Ştefan Cucu was in Târgu Frumos, and assisted here at the unloading of the bodies. He says that because of the heat, some bodies had gone into decay and, once moved, they were just breaking.

According to the latest historical researches, the pogrom, followed by the circle trains of the trains of death started from Iasi, has caused more than 14,000 victims. Doar din Cernăuţi şi din localităţile din împrejurimi au fost deportaţi în Transnisitria aproximativ 150.000 de evrei. Odată ajunşi aici, ei au găsit sate abandonate, ferme părăsite şi oraşe ruinate. adăposturi, nici lemne pentru iarnă şi nici haine călduroase. Oamenii mureau cu sutele în fiecare zi.

La data de 11 octombrie 1941, toţi evreii primiseră ordin să se adune în cel mai sărac cartier al Cernăuţiului, în termen de 24 de ore. Ghetoul a devenit zonă de aşteptare pentru deportările care au început două zile mai târziu. Oamenii din ghetou au fost duşi la gară în fiecare zi, înghesuiţi în vagoane şi trimişi în Transnistria. Cel responsabil la momentul respectiv a fost guvernatorul regiunii Cernăuţi, generalul Calotescu. Primarul, Traian Popovici, i-a cerut să oprească deportările, susţinând că, dacă toţi evreii erau trimişi departe, nu ar mai exita cizmari, croitori sau instalatori în oraş. Calotescu a decis apoi să reţină 15.000 dintre cei 50.000 de oameni care urmau să fie deportaţi. O comisie a fost creată în mod special pentru a identifica persoanele care aveau o ocupaţie ce aducea „beneficii” statului român. Aceşti cetăţeni, împreună cu familiile lor, puteau rămâne în oraşul în care locuiseră până atunci. Printre aceste familii s-a numărat şi cea a lui Josef Bursug.

După înfrângerile repetate ale naziştilor pe frontul de Est al celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial, opresiunea asupra evreilor nu a mai avut aceeaşi intensitate. Deportările s-au oprit. Persecuţiile şi hărţuirile s-au diminuat. La începutul lunii martie a anului 1944, armata sovietică a ocupat Transnistria. Până la sfârşitul aceleiaşi luni, trupele Armatei Roşii intraseră şi în Bucovina.

150.000 de evrei trăiau odată în Cernăauți şi în împrejurimi. În timpul războiului, 15.000 dintre aceştia au putut rămâne în oraş.

10.00 de evrei au reuşit să se întoarcă din Transnistria. Cu alte cuvinte, aproximativ 120.000 de oameni au murit în timpul acestei perioade de teroare.

Numărul evreilor români şi al evreilor din teritoriile aflate sub administraţie românească ucişi în timpul Holocaustului nu a putut fi stabilit cu precizie absolută.

Concluzia Comisiei Internaţionale pentru Studierea Holocaustului din România în acest sens este că, în timpul Holocaustului, în România şi în teritoriile aflate sub controlul său au fost ucişi sau au murit între Learning past history for present and future-the Holocaust PROJECT FUNDED BY THE OLGA LENGYEL INSTITUTE

280 000 şi 380 000 de evrei români şi ucraineni. În Holocaust au pierit şi aproximativ 135 000 de evrei români care trăiau în Transilvania de Nord, aflată sub conducere maghiară, precum şi 5000 de evrei români care se aflau atunci în alte ţări din Europa. Referindu-se la România, Raul Hilberg a afirmat că nici o ţară, în afara Germaniei, nu s-a implicat în masacrarea evreilor la o asemenea scară.

Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School The one who coordinated the deportation operations was the governor of Cernăuţi region, General Calotescu. Only 150,000 Jews were deported to Transnisitra from Cernăuţi and the surrounding villages. Once they got here, they found abandoned villages, deserted farms and ruined cities. The Romanians allowed the Ukrainian Jews to die because they had no shelter, no wood for winter and no warm clothes. Hundreds of people were dying every day. On October 11, 1941, all Jews were ordered to gather in the poorest neighborhood of Cernăuţi, within 24 hours. The ghetto became a waiting area for deportations that began two days later. The people in the ghetto were taken to the station every day, crammed into wagons and sent to Transnistria. The one responsible at the time was the governor of Cernăuţi region, General Calotescu. The mayor, Traian Popovici, asked him to stop the deportations, claiming that, if all the Jews were sent away, they would no longer have shoemakers, tailors or plumbers in the city. Calotescu then decided to detain 15,000 of the 50,000 people who were to be deported. A commission was created specifically to identify people who had an occupation that brought "benefits" to the Romanian state. These citizens, together with their families, could remain in the city where they had lived until then. These families included Josef Bursug’s.

After repeated Nazis' defeat on the eastern front of World War II, the oppression of the Jews was no longer the same. The deportations stopped. Persecution and harassment have diminished. At the beginning of March 1944, the Soviet army occupied Transnistria. By the end of the same month, the Red Army troops had also entered Bucovina.

150,000 Jews once lived in and around Cernauti. During the war, 15,000 of them were able to remain in the city. 10.00 Jews managed to return from Transnistria. In other words, about 120,000 people died during this period of terror.

The number of Romanian Jews and Jews in the territories under Romanian administration killed during the Holocaust could not be established with absolute precision. The conclusion of the International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania in this regard is that, during the Holocaust, in Romania and in the territories under its control were killed or died between 280,000 and 380,000 Romanian and Ukrainian Jews. In the Holocaust, about 135,000 Romanian Jews living in northern Transylvania, under Hungarian rule, as well as 5000 Romanian Jews living in other countries in Europe, were killed. Referring to Romania, Raul Hilberg stated that no country, except Germany, was involved in the massacre of Jews on such a scale.

La începutul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial, România era condusă de regimul fascist al mareșalului Antonescu, căruia Hitler i-a pus la dispoziție teritoriul dintre Nistru ;i Bug, ca mulțumire pentru sprijinul acordat în atacul asupra URSS. În septembrie 1941, românii au început să deporteze evreii din Bucovina și Basarabia către noul lor teritoriu, Transnistria. Înainte de deportarea evreilor, pe acest teritoriu au fost bătălii crunte. "Românii i-au lăsat pe oameni să înghețe. Nu aveau paturi, combustibil și haine", spune Bursuc. Au izbucnit epidemii de difterie și tifos, oamenii din lagăr fiind nevoiți să presteze munci grele. Nu aveau de unde câștiga bani. În fiecare zi mureau cu sutele.

Istoria evreilor în România se referă la evoluția minorității de etnie evreiască pe teritoriul actual al României de-a lungul istoriei. Prezențe iudaice în acest spațiu sunt atestate arheologic în Antichitate, iar începând din Evul Mediu sunt documentate de surse literare și alte categorii de izvoare istorice.

Holocaustul în România denumește prigoana și exterminarea evreilor în teritoriile controlate de statul român în anii 1937-1944, adică de la primele legi anti-evreiești ale guvernului Goga-Cuza și până la lovitura de stat din 23 august 1944. evreilor din teritorii foste românești înainte de 1940, dar care nu se aflau sub control românesc în momentul faptelor, constitue o definiție eronată a Holocaustului în România.

At the beginning of the Second World War, Romania was ruled by the fascist regime of Marshal Antonescu, to whom Hitler made available the territory between the Dniester and the Bug, in gratitude for the support given in the attack on the USSR. In September 1941, the Romanians began deporting the Jews from Bukovina and Bessarabia to their new territory, Transnistria.

Before the deportation of the Jews, there were fierce battles in this territory. "The Romanians allowed people to freeze. They had no beds, fuel and clothes," says Bursuc.

The diphtheria and typhus epidemics broke out, people in the camp being forced to work hard. They had no money. Every day they died with hundreds.

The history of the Jews in Romania refers to the evolution of the Jewish ethnic minority in the present territory of Romania throughout history. Jewish presence in this area is archaeologically attested in Antiquity, and from the Middle Ages is documented by literary sources and other categories of historical sources.

The Holocaust in Romania names the persecution and extermination of the Jews in the territories controlled by the Romanian state in 1937-1944, that is, from the first anti-Jewish laws of the Goga-Cuza government and to the coup d'etat of August 23, 1944. According to historian Raul Hilberg, the inclusion of the Jews’ fate from the former Romanian territories before 1940, but which were not under Romanian control at the time of the events, constitutes a mistaken definition of the Holocaust in Romania.

Deportarea evreilor din România –trenurile morții Elev: Acmazlale Baykal Marian Prof. coord. Drăguț Violeta Liceul Tehnologic Costești În fiecare an, pe data de 27 ianuarie este Ziua Internaţională de Comemorare a Victimelor Holocaustului.

Numărul total al evreilor români şi ucraineni care au pierit în teritoriile aflate sub administraţie românească este între 280.000 şi 380.000, se arată în Raportul final al Comisiei internaţionale pentru studierea Holocaustului din țara noastră.

Două “trenuri ale morţii”, în care au fost îmbarcaţi evrei din Iași și împrejurimi şi-au început drumul dureros spre Muntenia, în 30 iunie 1941, străbătând mai multe gări din Moldova. Condiţiile în care s-a făcut transportul sunt greu de descris: erau închise ermetic, cu puține spații prin care cu greu pătrundea lumina, jos era bălegar acoperit cu var şi erau păzite de trupe. Nimeni nu avea voie să se apropie de trenuri atunci când ajungeau în gări, să le dea apă sau să le deschidă ușa pentru a lua aer.

Din cauza mirosurilor cadavrelor şi a mizeriei rezultate ca urmare a condiţiilor inumane la care au fost supuşi, aproximativ 2.700 de evrei au murit de sufocare sau de sete, iar alţii şi-au pierdut minţile.

O parte dintre ei au fost salvaţi în gara Roman prin intervenţia energică a preşedintei Crucii Roşii din Roman, Viorica Agarici.

Din cei 5.000 îmbarcaţi în tren, doar 1.011 au mai ajuns la Călăraşi, după 9 zile de călătorie infernală. Nicolae Ţiripan, istoric, şeful Arhivelor călărăşene, în urma cercetării făcute pe acest subiect, spune că oamenii au fost ţinuţi doar câteva luni la Călăraşi.

Apoi, fără niciun motiv au fost întorşi la Iaşi. În dimineaţa zilei de 29 iunie, convoaie de evrei din diferite cartiere ale Iaşiului au fost dirijate spre Chestura de Poliţie, unde la ora 15 a început masacrul în timpul căruia evreii au fost jefuiţi, bătuţi şi ucişi. Supravieţuitorii masacrului au fost duşi la gară pentru a fi evacuaţi, în conformitate cu ordinele date de Ion Antonescu.

Evreii au fost înghesuiţi în vagoane de marfă, utilizate pentru transportul de carbid, cărora li s-au astupat ferestrele, atmosfera dinăuntru devenind astfel sufocantă. Acestea sunt condiţiile în care au fost puse în mişcare două trenuri, supranumite „Trenurile Morţii”. În primul tren care urma să plece în direcţia Călăraşi au fost băgaţi 5.000 de evrei, din care au supravieţuit 1.011, în timp ce dintr-un număr de 2.700 de evrei îmbarcaţi în trenul cu direcţia Podu Ilioaiei au supravieţuit doar 700. Principalele cauze ale deceselor au fost asfixierea şi deshidratarea.

Conform istoricilor, 4.432 de evrei au supravieţuit primei faze a masacrului şi au fost înghesuiţi în zilele de 30 iunie şi 1 iulie în două „trenuri ale morţii“. Primul tren a plecat către localitatea Podu Iloaiei, situată la doar 25 kilometri de Iaşi, distanţă pe care a parcurs-o în opt ore.

The deportation of the Jews from Romania - the trains of death Student: Acmazlale Baykal Marian Prof. coordin. Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School Every year, on January 27, is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. The total number of Romanian and Ukrainian Jews who died in the territories under Romanian administration is between 280,000 and 380,000, is shown in the final Report of the International Commission for Holocaust Study in our country.

Two "trains of death", in which the Jews from Iasi and the surrounding area were embarked began their painful journey to Muntenia on June 30, 1941, passing several stations in Moldova.

The conditions in which the transport was made are difficult to describe: they were hermetically sealed, with few spaces through which light could hardly penetrate, the floor was covered with compost and whitewash and the trains were guarded by troops. No one was allowed to approach the trains when they reached the stations, to give them water or open the doors for air. Due to the odors of the bodies and the misery resulting from the inhuman conditions they were subjected to, about 2,700 Jews died of suffocation or thirst, and others lost their minds.

Some of them were saved in the Roman station by the energetic intervention of the president of the Romanian Red Cross, Viorica Agarici.

Of the 5,000 embarked on the train, only 1,011 arrived in Calarasi after 9 days of infernal travel. Nicolae Ţiripan, historian, the head of the Calarasi Archives, following the research done on this subject, says that the people were kept for a few months in Calarasi.

Then, for no reason, they were returned to Iasi. On the morning of June 29, convoys of Jews from different neighborhoods of Iasi were directed to the Police Station, where at 15:00 the massacre began during which the Jews were robbed, beaten and killed. The survivors of the massacre were taken to the station to be evacuated, according to the orders given by Ion Antonescu.

The Jews were crammed into freight wagons, used for carbide transport, whose windows were blocked, the atmosphere inside thus becoming suffocating. These were the conditions under which two trains, called "Death Trains" were set in motion.

In the first train to depart in the direction of Calarasi, 5,000 Jews were recruited, of whom 1,011 survived, while of a number of 2,700 Jews embarked on the train headed by Podu Ilioaiei, only 700 survived. The main causes of the deaths were asphyxiation and dehydration.

According to historians, 4,432 Jews survived the first phase of the massacre and were crammed into the "trains of death" on June 30 and July 1. The first train left for Podu Iloaiei, located only 25 kilometers from Iasi, which it traveled in eight hours. The second train was sent to the south of Romania, to Calarasi, where it arrived after 9 days. Another 2,713 Jews died in the "death trains" due to hellish heat, dehydration and hunger. Potrivit istoricului Raul Hilberg, includerea soartei evreilor din teritorii foste românești înainte de 1940, dar care nu se aflau sub control românesc în momentul faptelor, constituie o definiție eronată a Holocaustului în România.

În puterea nopții, mulți dintre evreii din Iași și-au găsit sfârșitul. O parte dintre aceștia au fost urcați într-un tren cu direcția Călărași, unde au ajuns după cinci zile. Restul au fost trimiși cu un tren de marfă la Podu Iloaiei. O distanță parcursă în maximum o jumătate de oră au fost făcută de acest „tren al morții” în nouă ore, sub un soare care ardea teribil.

După nouă ore de calvar, trenul a ajuns la Podu Iloaiei. Dintre cei aproape 2.000 de evrei numai 800 au ajuns în viață. Evreii supraviețuitori au rămas la Podu Iloaiei până în noiembrie 1941, când au fost eliberați. Chinul supraviețuitorilor a continuat însă, căci au trebuit să îngroape morții din vagoane sub amenințarea soldaților înarmați. „Aruncăm cadavrele în gropi comune și turnăm var deasupra, sperând în fiecare clipă că nu vom fi noi ultimul strat”. Până la urmă, nimeni nu a murit la Podu Iloaiei. La 30 iunie 1941, Gara Podu Iloaiei a fost capătul traseului unui „tren al morții”. În dimineața acestei zile a plecat din Iași un tren de marfă cu aproximativ 2.000 de evrei ieșeni deportați de autorități, două treimi dintre aceștia murind în cauză extenuării și deshidratării în

cele opt ore cât a durat drumul.

La Podu Iloaiei, când s-a oprit trenul și au trebuit să coboare s-a constatat că majoritatea erau morți, iar cei care supraviețuiseră arătau ca niște cadavre vii. Cei care au scăpat cu viață au fost cazați la familiile evreiești din localitate. În timpul nopții au fost descărcate cadavrele din tren și așezate pe marginea șinelor, iar a doua zi au fost aduși evreii supraviețuitori pentru a-i încărca pe morți în căruțe și a-i duce la cimitirul evreiesc din localitate unde au fost îngropați în gropi comune.

The conclusion of the International Commission for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania in this regard is that, during the Holocaust, in Romania and in the territories under its control were killed

or died between 280,000 and 380,000 Romanian and Ukrainian Jews. In the Holocaust, about 135,000 Romanian Jews living in Northern Transylvania were also killed.

The Holocaust in Romania names the persecution and extermination of the Jews in the territories controlled by the Romanian state in 1937-1944, that is, from the first Jewish-laws of the Goga-Cuza government and to the coup d'etat of August 23, 1944.

According to historian Raul Hilberg, the inclusion of the fate of the Jews from the former Romanian territories before 1940, but which were not under Romanian control at the time of the events, constitutes an erroneous definition of the Holocaust in Romania.

In the power of the night, many of the Jews in Iasi found their end. Some of them were boarded in a train with the direction of Calarasi, where they arrived after five days. The rest were sent by freight train to Iloaiei Bridge. A distance of at most half an hour was made by this "train of death" in nine hours, under a sun that burned terribly.

After nine hours of ordeal, the train reached the Iloaiei Bridge. Of the nearly 2,000 Jews, only 800 came to life.

The surviving Jews stayed at Iloaiei Bridge until November 1941, when they were released. The torture of the survivors continued, however, as they had to bury the wagon deaths under the threat of armed soldiers. "We throw the bodies in common pits and pour whitewash on top, hoping at every moment that we will not be the last layer." After all, no one died at the Iloaiei Bridge. On June 30, 1941, Iloaiei Bridge Station was the end of a "train of death". In the morning of this day, a freight train with about 2,000 Jews from Iasi departed from the authorities left from Iași, two thirds of them dying due to exhaustion and dehydration in the eight hours that the travel lasted.

At the Iloaiei Bridge, when the train stopped and they had to get off, it was found that most were dead, and those who survived looked like living corpses. Those who escaped alive were accommodated with Jewish families in the village.

During the night the bodies were unloaded from the train and placed on the edge of the rails, and the next day the surviving Jews were brought to load the dead into carts and to take them to the Jewish cemetery in the locality where they were buried in common graves.

Expulzarea evreilor din România a fost modalitatea prin care Ion Antonescu şi-a pus în practică politica de „purificare etnică și politică”. Mihai Antonescu a evidențiat acest lucru cu ocazia unei ședințe a Consiliului de Miniștri, pe care a prezidat-o la 17 iunie 1941, cu doar câteva zile înaintea atacului româno-german împotriva Uniunii Sovietice. Opt zile mai târziu, cu ocazia unei alte ședințe a Consiliului de Miniștri, Mihai Antonescu a dezvăluit faptul că Ion Antonescu a luat decizia de a-i strânge pe evrei în vederea deportării.

Pogromul de la Iaşi a făcut parte din planul de purificare etnică al lui Ion Antonescu şi a fost anticipat de măsurile luate cu mai multe zile înainte de declanşarea propriu-zisă a acţiunilor pogromiste. Astfel, pe 19 iunie, un ordin transmis Minsiterului Propagandei Naţionale cerea identificarea „jidanilor, a agenţilor comunişti şi a simpatizanţilor” şi interzicerea circulaţiei acestora. Pe 22 iunie, în prima zi de război, au fost postate în Iaşi afişe ce instigau la pogrom şi care îi culpabilizau pe evrei pentru presupusa colaborare cu bolşevicii şi cu URSS. Odată cu primele atacuri aeriene sovietice în zilele de 24 şi 26 iunie, oficialităţile din Iaşi i-au învinuit pe evrei de complicitate cu aviatorii sovietici, pretinzând că mai mulţi civili de etnie evreiască îi ghidează pe piloţii de avioane prin intermediul semnalelor şi le arătau obiectivele ce trebuiau bombardate. În dimineaţa zilei de 29 iunie, convoaie de evrei din diferite cartiere ale Iaşiului au fost dirijate spre Chestura de Poliţie, unde la ora 15 a început masacrul în timpul căruia evreii au fost jefuiţi, bătuţi şi ucişi. Supravieţuitorii masacrului au fost duşi la gară pentru a fi evacuaţi, in conformitate cu ordinele date de Ion Antonescu. Evreii au fost înghesuiţi în vagoane de marfă, utilizate pentru transportul de carbid, cărora li s-au astupat ferestrele, atmosfera dinăuntru devenind astfel sufocantă. Acestea sunt condiţiile în care au fost puse în mişcare două trenuri, supranumite „Trenurile Morţii”. În primul tren care urma să plece în direcţia Călăraşi au fost băgaţi 5000 de evrei, din care au supravieţuit 1011, în timp ce dintr-un număr de 2700 de evrei îmbarcaţi în trenul cu direcţia Podu Ilioaiei au supravieţuit doar 700. Principalele cauze ale deceselor au fost asfixierea şi deshidratarea.

Thus, on June 19, an order sent to the Ministry of National Propaganda called for the identification of "Jews, Communist agents and supporters" and the prohibition of their movement. On June 22, on the first day of the war, posters instigating the pogrom were posted in Iaşi, blaming the Jews for their alleged collaboration with the Bolsheviks and the USSR. With the first Soviet air strikes on June 24 and 26, officials in Iasi blamed Jews for complicity with Soviet aviators, claiming that several Jewish-born civilians guided aircraft pilots through signals and showed their targets that had to be bombed.

În România interbelică comunitatea evreiască nu era uniformă. Comunitățile din regiunile alipite după război fuseseră influențate de împrejurările diverse din Imperiul Rus, Imperiul Austro-Ungar și din Bulgaria. În 2016 s-au împlinit 75 de ani de la deportarea evreilor de pe teritoriile judeţelor Suceava și Botoșani în Transnistria.

În Holocaust au pierit şi aproximativ 135 000 de evrei români care trăiau în Transilvania de Nord, aflată sub conducere maghiară, precum şi 5000 de evrei români care se aflau atunci în alte ţări din Europa. Referind-se la România, Raul Hilbert a afirmat că nici o ţară, în afara Germaniei, nu s-a implicat în masacrarea evreilor la o asemenea scară.

O parte însemnată din populația evreiască a Israelului e originară din România și din Republica Moldova, sau sunt descedenți ai emigranților care provin din aceste țări. Evreii din țările române au susținut legături cu Țara Israel timp de secole. Evreii religioși care aveau posibilitatea, plecau la bătrânețe ca să moară și să fie îngropați pe tărâmurile considerate de ei ca fiind patria lor originară.

Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School The Holocaust represents the systematic persecution organized by the state and the extermination of European Jews by Nazi Germany, its allies and collaborators between 1933-1945.

In inter-war Romania, the Jewish community was not uniform. The communities in the post-war regions were influenced by the various circumstances of the Russian Empire, the Austro-Hungarian Empire and Bulgaria.

In 2016, 75 years have passed since the deportation of the Jews from Suceava and Botosani counties to Transnistria. Representatives of the Jewish community tell of the hardships endured in 1941-1942.

Romanian countries have maintained ties with the country of Israel for centuries. The religious Jews who had the possibility, went to old age to die and be buried in the lands considered by them as their original homeland.

Despre genocidul săvârşit asupra evreilor în Transnistria, fosta Uniune Sovietică, se vorbeşte mult mai puţin. Se presupune că în aici ar fi pierit aproape 400.000 de evrei.

Ce e mai rău: să mori în camerele de gazare de la Auschwitz sau să mori de foame în Transnistria? La acesta întrebare nu poţi da un răspuns logic, însă poţi căuta câteva explicaţii pentru genocidul de atunci, scrie Deutsche Welle. În Cernăuţi se aflau 50.000 de evrei. Aceştia se pregătiseră pentru ce putea fi mai rău.

Pe 11 octombrie 1941 a fost dat un ordin conform căruia toţi evreii din oraş trebuia să se mute în cel mai sărac cartier al urbei, unde nu puteau locui mai mult de 5.000 de oameni.

Cine nu îşi găsea un acoperiş deasupra capului era nevoit să stea sub cerul liber. Ghetoul, însă, s-a dovedit doar o staţie temporară, două zile mai târziu începând deportările.

Se vorbeşte că primarul de atunci al oraşului, Traian Popovici, s-a adresat guvernatorului Cernăuțiului cu rugămintea de a nu deporta toţi evreii, oraşul riscând să rămână fără meseriaşi. În final s-a decis că 15.000 dintre cei 50.000 să nu plece din oraş.

O comisie specială a decis ce meseriaşi pot rămâne cu familiile în Cernăuţi, fiindu-le acordată o viză specială de şedere. Aşa a scăpat şi

There is much less talk about genocide on Jews in Transnistria, the former Soviet Union. It is estimated that nearly 400,000 Jews would have died here.

What's worse: dying in the gas chambers in Auschwitz or starving in Transnistria?

You cannot give a logical answer to this question, but you can look for some explanations for the genocide then, writes Deutsche Welle. There were 50,000 Jews in Cernauti. They had prepared for what could be worse.

On October 11, 1941, an order was issued that all Jews in the city should move to the poorest neighborhood of the city, where no more than 5,000 people could live. Anyone who could not find a roof over their heads had to sit under the open sky. The ghetto, however, proved to be only a temporary station, two days later beginning deportations. It is said that the then mayor of the city, Traian Popovici, addressed the governor of Cernauti with the request not to deport all the Jews, the city risking being left without trades. It was finally decided that 15,000 of the 50,000 would not leave the city. A special commission has decided which tradesmen can stay with the families in

Concluzia Comisiei Internaţionale pentru Studierea Holocaustului din România în acest sens este că, în timpul Holocaustului, în România şi în teritoriile aflate sub controlul său au fost ucişi sau au murit între 280 000 şi 380 000 de evrei români şi ucraineni. În septembrie 1940, generalul Ion Antonescu devine conducătorul statului român şi se instaurează un guvern în componenţa căruia se regăseşte „singura mişcare recunoscută în noul stat” – Mişcarea Legionară. În luna octombrie au fost promulgate decrete de expropriere a bunurilor rurale, de eliminare a evreilor din învăţământ, din profesiunile liberale şi din servicii. Totodată s-a legiferat îndepărtarea tuturor artiştilor evrei din teatrele româneşti de stat şi particulare şi excluderea acestora din Societatea Scriitorilor Români, Societatea Compozitorilor şi Sindicatul artiştilor.

Personalul evreiesc din domeniul sanitar a fost concediat, în timp ce Colegiul Medicilor i-a eliminat pe medicii evrei, care şi-au pierdut şi dreptul de a îngriji pacienţi creştini. Totodată, evreilor li s-a interzis să practice profesia de farmacist.

Rebeliunea legionară din 21-23 Ianuarie 1941 a reprezentat punctul culminant al violenţelor antisemite iniţiate de membrii Mişcării Legionare. Dorind preluarea întregii puteri în stat, legionarii au declanşat un val de teroare împotriva evreilor, care a inclus arestări, maltratări, asasinate, jafuri, devastarea şi incendierea templelor, sinagogilor, instituţiilor evreieşti, precum şi a întreprinderilor şi gospodăriilor care aparţineau evreilor. Bilanţul Pogromului de la Bucureşti a fost unul tragic: 616 magazine devastate, ridicarea a mii de evrei din case, de pe stradă, din sinagogi şi instituţii evreieşti fără deosebire de sex şi vârstă, 151 de evrei ucişi şi 60 de evrei răniţi, 25 de temple şi sinagogi devastate.

Expulzarea evreilor din România a fost modalitatea prin care Ion Antonescu şi-a pus în practică politica de „purificare etnică şi politică”. zile înaintea atacului româno-german împotriva Uniunii Sovietice. Opt zile mai târziu, cu ocazia unei alte şedinţe a Consiliului de Miniştri, Mihai Antonescu a dezvăluit faptul că Ion Antonescu a luat decizia de a-i strânge pe evrei în vederea deportării.

Pogromul de la Iaşi a făcut parte din planul de purificare etnică al lui Ion Antonescu şi a fost anticipat de măsurile luate cu mai multe zile înainte de declanşarea propriu-zisă a acţiunilor pogromiste. Astfel, pe 19 iunie, un ordin transmis Minsiterului Propagandei Naţionale cerea identificarea „jidanilor, a agenţilor comunişti şi a simpatizanţilor” şi interzicerea circulaţiei acestora. Pe 22 iunie, în prima zi de război, au fost postate în Iaşi afişe ce instigau la pogrom şi care îi culpabilizau pe evrei pentru presupusa colaborare cu bolşevicii şi cu URSS. Odată cu primele atacuri aeriene sovietice în zilele de 24 şi 26 iunie, oficialităţile din Iaşi i-au învinuit pe evrei de complicitate cu aviatorii sovietici, pretinzând că mai mulţi civili de etnie evreiască îi ghidează pe piloţii de avioane prin intermediul semnalelor şi le arătau obiectivele ce trebuiau bombardate. În dimineaţa zilei de 29 iunie, convoaie de evrei din diferite cartiere ale Iaşiului au fost dirijate spre Chestura de Poliţie, unde la ora 15 a început masacrul în timpul căruia evreii au fost jefuiţi, bătuţi şi ucişi. Supravieţuitorii masacrului au fost duşi la gară pentru a fi evacuaţi, in conformitate cu ordinele date de Ion Antonescu. Evreii au fost înghesuiţi în vagoane de marfă, utilizate pentru transportul de carbid, cărora li s-au astupat ferestrele, atmosfera dinăuntru devenind astfel sufocantă. Acestea sunt condiţiile în care au fost puse în mişcare două trenuri, supranumite „Trenurile Morţii”. În primul tren care urma să plece în direcţia Călăraşi au fost băgaţi 5000 de evrei, din care au supravieţuit 1011, în timp ce dintr-un număr de 2700 de evrei îmbarcaţi în trenul cu direcţia Podu Ilioaiei au supravieţuit doar 700. Principalele cauze ale deceselor au fost asfixierea şi deshidratarea. În timpul masacrului de la Chestura din Iaşi şi în trenurile morţii se estimează că au murit peste 13000 de evrei.

Continuând politica de expulzare a evreilor, jandarmii români au însoţit coloane de evrei din Bucovina şi Basarabia, spre nordul Basarabiei şi peste Nistru, pe teritoriul controlat de germani la vremea aceea. Caracterul de masă al deportărilor – copii, femei, vârstnici şi infirmi – arată foarte clar că intenţia lui Antonescu a fost aceea de a purifica etnic cele două provincii. Cei care au putut, au luat cu ei îmbrăcăminte, mâncare, bani şi bijuterii. Germanii nu i-au primit şi au trimis mare parte din ei înapoi. La 31 iulie, generalul Eugen von Schobert, comandantul Armatei a 11-a germane, a informat Marele Stat Major român că „mutarea unei largi mase de evrei în spatele armatei constituie o ameninţare serioasă la adresa aprovizionării trupelor şi, prin urmare, este intolerabilă”. El a avertizat că trupele germane vor împiedica alte „deportări de evrei şi ruşi către est, peste Nistru” .

Avertismentul a fost ignorat, jandarmii români începând să-i trimită pe evrei peste fluviu, spre nord. În unele cazuri, inginerii armatei române ridicau poduri mobile care erau imediat dezmembrate după trecerea evreilor. că, pe 5 august, germanii au trimis înapoi la Atachi 3.000 de evrei „din cei 12.000 care fuseseră trimişi peste Nistru” de către români, la Moghilev (Mohyliv PodilVkyi). În aceeaşi zi, armata română a telegrafiat generalului Ioan Topor informându-l că în jur de 20.000 de evrei din oraşele Hotin (Khotyn) şi Storojineţ (Storozhynets) se aflau în drum spre Atachi, germanii refuzând să-i accepte. Trei zile mai târziu, inspectoratul jandarmeriei din Cernăuţi a informat că 20.000 de evrei din judeţul Hotin au fost conduşi peste Nistru, dar germanii au început pe 7 august, să-i expulzeze din Ucraina pe toţi cei proveniţi din Basarabia şi nordul Bucovinei, indiferent de etnie. Conform unui raport SD, evreii au fost „plimbaţi înainte şi înapoi până au cedat… Femei şi bărbaţi în vârstă zăceau pe drum, la mică distanţă unii de alţii…”.

Neavând unde să-i trimită, jandarmeria română a construit lagăre de tranzit la Secureni, Edineţi şi Vertujeni, în care a înghesuit peste 50.000 de evrei. Salubritatea precară, lipsa de apă şi de hrană au dus imediat la izbucnirea unor epidemii. Rata mortalităţii a fost mare. Locul de deportare a acestor evrei, imediat ce situaţia militară a permis, a fost Transnistria. În octombrie 1941, a început evacuarea ocupanţilor lagărelor de tranzit în Transnistria. Deportaţii au fost înghesuiţi în vagoane, fără suficientă mâncare şi apă, pentru un drum de şase zile. Unii au murit pe drum; mulţi supravieţuitori au murit de tifos în lagărele din Transnistria. Între 13 octombrie şi 15 noiembrie, când deportările au fost suspendate din cauza vremii proaste şi, se pare, din cauza lipsei de vagoane de marfa, 28.391 de evrei au fost deportaţi în Transnistria în 14 trenuri supravegheate de jandarmi. În plus, 395 de evrei identificaţi ca fiind comunişti sau consideraţi indezirabili, au fost deportaţi . Evreii care aveau profesii considerate esenţiale pentru funcţionarea Cemăuţiului au fost cruţaţi: astfel, 16.569 de evrei au primit autorizaţie să rămână în oraş. O comisie înfiinţată de Antonescu pentru a investiga desfăşurarea deportărilor din Bucovina, a dezvăluit că, la sfârşitul lui ianuarie 1942, în Cernăuţi rămăseseră 21.626 de evrei, dintre care 16.391 aveau permis, 235 erau suspectaţi a fi comunişti şi aşteptau să fie deportaţi, iar aproximativ 5.000 stăteau ilegal. La sfârşitul lui martie 1942, Antonescu a aprobat cererea guvernatorului Basarabiei ca 425 de evrei, care fuseseră lăsaţi în ghetourile din provincie sau lăsaţi liberi, „să fie trimişi în Transnistria cu trenul, conform cu ordinele de mai sus”. La scurt timp după aceea, Antonescu a ordonat reînceperea deportării din Bucovina.

Transnistria a fost întemeiată ca rezultat al operaţiunilor militare de succes din vara anului 1941 şi a fost pierdută când a devenit dificil de apărat, la începutul lui 1944. oficialii români au administrat zona şi au fost responsabili pentru evreii ucrainieni şi români deportaţi acolo.

Tratamentul aplicat evreilor de către Antonescu este diferit de cel al lui Hitler. Dacă în vara anului 1941 forţele armate germane şi române au colaborat la uciderea în masă a evreilor din Basarabia şi Bucovina, după această dată autorităţile române au acţionat independent. Ca şi în cazul Germaniei, discriminarea a fost urmată de deportări, doar că, în cazul României, acest lucru nu s-a sfârşit în camerele de gazare.

Zeci de mii de evrei din Basarabia, Bucovina şi Transnistria au fost împuşcaţi în judeţul Golta, în perioada dintre iarna lui 1941 şi primăvara lui 1942, la ordinele autorităţilor române. Persecuţia evreilor nu s-a sfârşit însă aici, situaţia lor degradându-se tot mai mult, datorită unei neglijenţe criminale. Este adevărat că evreii rezidenţi în Ucraina, dincolo de Transnistria, au suferit o moarte rapidă fiind împuşcaţi de germani, dar evreii din Transnistria au avut parte de o moarte lentă, din cauza tifosului sau a foametei. Contrastul dintre acţiunile germane şi române este ilustrat şi de faptul că în Transnistria au fost cei mai mulţi supravieţuitori dintre evreii din Uniunea Sovietică, în timpul hegemoniei Axei în cel de-al doilea război mondial. Ceea ce nu reprezintă nici o consolare pentru cei ce şi-au pierdut viaţa, dar este de o mare importanţă pentru cei care au reuşit să se târască înapoi la casele lor, în Odessa sau în România, în primăvara şi vara anului 1944.

In October, decrees for expropriation of rural goods, for the elimination of Jews from education, liberal professions and services were issued. At the same time, the removal of all Jewish artists from the Romanian state and private theaters and their exclusion from the Society of Romanian Writers, the Society of Composers and the Artists' Union were legislated. Jewish medical personnel were fired, while the College of Physicians eliminated Jewish doctors, who also lost the right to care for Christian patients. At the same time, Jews were forbidden to practice the profession of pharmacist.

The legionary rebellion of January 21-23, 1941 was the culmination of the anti-Semitic violence initiated by the members of the Legionary Movement. Wanting to take over all power in the state, the legionaries unleashed a wave of terror against the Jews, which included arrests, illtreatment, assassinations, robberies, devastation and burning of temples, synagogues, Jewish institutions, as well as businesses and households belonging to the Jews. The balance of the Pogrom in Bucharest was a tragic one: 616 shops devastated, the taking of thousands of Jews from houses, from the street, from synagogues and Jewish institutions regardless of sex and age, 151 Jews killed and 60 Jews injured, 25 devastated temples and synagogues.

The expulsion of the Jews from Romania was the way in which Ion Antonescu implemented his policy of "ethnic and political purification". Mihai Antonescu highlighted this at a meeting of the Council of Ministers, which he chaired on June 17, 1941, just days before the RomanianGerman attack on the Soviet Union. Eight days later, at another meeting of the Council of Ministers, Mihai Antonescu revealed that Ion Antonescu made the decision to gather the Jews for deportation.

The Pogrom from Iasi was part of Ion Antonescu's ethnic purification plan and was anticipated by the measures taken several days before the actual outbreak of the pogrom actions.

Thus, on June 19, an order sent to the Ministry of National Propaganda called for the identification of "Jews, communist agents and supporters" and the prohibition of their movement. On June 22, on the first day of the war, posters instigating the pogrom and blaming the Jews for alleged cooperation with the Bolsheviks and the USSR were posted in Iasi. With the first Soviet air strikes on June 24 and 26, officials in Iasi blamed Jews for complicity with Soviet aviators, claiming that several Jewish-born civilians guided aircraft pilots through signals and showed the targets that had to be bombed.

On the morning of June 29, convoys of Jews from different neighborhoods of Iasi were directed to the Police Station, where at 3:00 pm the massacre began during which the Jews were robbed, beaten and killed. The survivors of the massacre were taken to the station to be evacuated, according to the orders given by Ion Antonescu. The Jews were crammed into freight wagons, used for carbide transport, whose windows were blocked, the atmosphere inside thus becoming suffocating. These were the conditions under which two trains, called "Death Trains" were set in motion. In the first train to depart in the direction of Calarasi, 5,000 Jews were recruited, of whom 1011 survived, while out of 2700 Jews embarked on the train headed to Podu Ilioaiei only 700 survived. The main causes of the deaths were asphyxiation and dehydration.

During the massacre at Chestura in Iasi and in the death trains it is estimated that over 13,000 Jews died.

Continuing the policy of expelling the Jews, the Romanian gendarmes accompanied raws of Jews from Bukovina and Bessarabia, to the north of Bessarabia and over the Dniester, on the territory controlled by the Germans at that time. The mass character of the deportations - children, women, the elderly and the infirm - clearly shows that Antonescu's intention was to ethnically purify the two provinces. Those who could, took with them clothing, food, money and jewelry. The Germans did not receive them and sent most of them back. On July 31, General Eugen von Schobert, the commander of the German 11th Army, informed the Romanian Grand Staff that "moving a large mass of Jews behind the army is a serious threat to the troops' supply and is therefore intolerable." He warned that German troops would prevent other "deportations of Jews and Russians to the east over the Dniester."

The warning was ignored, the Romanian gendarmes starting to send the Jews across the river to the north. In some cases, engineers of the Romanian army erected mobile bridges that were immediately distroyed after the passage of the Jews. Romanian gendarmes from Soroca, northern Bessarabia, reported that on August 5, the Germans sent back to Atachi 3,000 Jews "of the 12,000 who had been sent over the Dniester" by the Romanians, to Moghilev (Mohyliv PodilVkyi). The same day, the Romanian army telegraphed to General Ioan Topor informing him that around 20,000 Jews from the cities of Hotin (Khotyn) and Storojinet (Storozhynets) were on their way to Atachi, the Germans refusing to accept them. Three days later, the inspectorate of the gendarmerie in Cernăuţi reported that 20,000 Jews from Hotin county were driven over the Dniester, but the Germans began, on August 7, to expel from Ukraine all those from Bessarabia and northern Bukovina, regardless of ethnicity. According to an SD report, the Jews were "driven back and forth until they died... Older men and women were lying on the road, within walking distance of each other ...".

Having nowhere to send them, the Romanian gendarmerie built transit camps in Secureni, Edineţi and Vertujeni, where it crowded over 50,000 Jews. Poor sanitation, lack of water and food immediately led to the outbreak of epidemics. The mortality rate was high. Shortly afterwards, Antonescu ordered the resumption of deportation from Bukovina.

Transnistria was founded as a result of successful military operations in the summer of 1941 and was lost when it became difficult to defend, at the beginning of 1944. During this period, Romanian officials administered the area and were responsible for the deported Ukrainian and Romanian Jews. there.

The treatment applied to the Jews by Antonescu is different from that of Hitler. If, in the summer of 1941, the German and Romanian armed forces collaborated in the mass murder of the Jews in Bessarabia and Bukovina, then this time the Romanian authorities acted independently. As in the case of Germany, the discrimination was followed by deportations, except that, in the case of Romania, this did not end in the gas chambers. Tens of thousands of Jews from Bessarabia, Bukovina and Transnistria were shot in Golta county, between the winter of 1941 and the spring of 1942, at the orders of the Romanian authorities. But the persecution of the Jews did not end here, their situation deteriorating more and more, due to criminal negligence. It is true that Jews residing in Ukraine, beyond Transnistria, suffered a rapid death being shot by the Germans, but Jews in Transnistria suffered a slow death due to typhus or famine. The contrast between German and Romanian actions is illustrated by the fact that in Transnistria there were most survivors of the Jews in the Soviet Union, during the Axis hegemony in World War II. Which is no consolation for those who have lost their lives, but it is of great importance for those who managed to crawl back to their homes, in Odessa or Romania, in the spring and summer of 1944.

zisele încercări de „reeducare”, efectuate sub autorizația autorităților comuniste în perioada anilor 1949-1952 (cunoscute și sub denumirea Experimentul Pitești sau Fenomenul Pitești). Acest experiment nu poate fi redus la o scuză pentru administrarea unor bătăi și torturi brutale, administrate zilnic cu scopul de a „reeduca total” deținuții politici, majoritatea studenți, membri în grupări interzise de comuniști ca Partidul Național Țărănesc și Partidul Național Liberal, precum și cei inspirați de Garda de Fier sau membri sionistei comunității evreiești din România. Esența metodei folosite la Pitești este transformarea victimelor în călăi, tortura putând fi apreciată drept un simplu mijloc, nu un scop.

Scopul experimentului, conform principiilor leniniste în interpretarea PCR, a fost lepădarea convingerilor și ideilor politice și religioase a deținuților, și în cele din urmă alterarea personalității până la punctul obedienței absolute. Estimările totale referitor la numărul celor care au suferit acest experiment sunt cuprinse între aproximativ 1000 și 5000. A fost cel mai mare și cel mai agresiv program de spălare a creerelor.

Acest plan presupunea reeducarea tuturor opozanților politici în spiritul comunist, prin ștergerea vechii identități a fiecăruia și înlocuirea ei cu una nouă, tipic bolșevică. Deținutul nu trebuia să se „vindece” după eliberare, urmând a-și însuși un comportament comunist. Planul va fi posibil doar cu ajutorul torturii neîntrerupte și a sistemului torționar, când cel ce tortura stătea în aceeași celulă cu victima, până la îndeplinirea obiectivului propus. Suferința continuă făcea ca deținutul să își piardă personalitatea și demnitatea umană, ajungând la slăbiciune interioară, fapt ce favoriza implementarea în psihicul deținutului a unei conştiinţe sociale tipic comunistă. Astfel, tortura deţinuţilor era un mijloc, și nu un scop. Prin denunțare, datorită torturii neîntrerupte, cei chinuiți ofereau și numele altor așa-ziși „colaboratori” ai fostelor partide, mai ales ai Gărzii de Fier.

Astfel, cei denunțați erau arestați la rândul lor de către Securitate și trimiși la Pitești, pentru reeducare. O parte din deținuți, deveneau din victime „călăi” -torționari. În acea perioadă, șeful Securității era cunoscutul Nikolski, acesta fiind sprijinit de colonelul Dulgheru și colonelul Sepeanu. La penitenciarul din Pitești, director era căpitanul Dumitrescu Alexandru. Acesta va fi transferat la închisoarea de la Mărgineni imediat după ce va lua sfârșit experimentul de la Pitești. Mâna dreaptă a căpitanului Dumitrescu era locotenentul Marina, un comunist convins ce împărtășea idei anticreștine. Printre gardieni, care la rândul lor fuseseră foști deținuți, cel mai de seamă a fost Eugen Țurcanu. Acesta a făcut parte din Frățiile de Cruce ale legionarilor, în perioada anilor 1940-1941, urmând a părăsi Mișcarea Legionară după rebeliunea din ianuarie 1941 și a se înscrie în Partidul Comunist Român. Mai târziu, Țurcanu va deveni membru în Biroul Județean de Partid din Iași.

The Pitesti experiment Student: Stoica Florin Ovidiu Prof. coordin. Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School Pitești Prison is the name under which the former penitentiary in Pitești, Romania is known, famous for the so-called "reeducation" attempts, carried out under the authorization of the communist authorities during the years 1949-1952. This experiment cannot be reduced to an excuse for administering brutal beatings and tortures, administered daily with the aim of "completely re-educating" political prisoners, most students, members in groups banned by communists such as the National Peasant Party and the National Liberal Party, as well as those inspired by the Iron Guard or members of the Zionist Jewish community in Romania. The essence of the method used in Pitesti is the transformation of victims into executioners, torture being appreciated as a simple means, not a purpose.

The purpose of the experiment, according to the Leninist principles in the interpretation of PCR, was to deny the political and religious beliefs and ideas of the prisoners, and finally to alter the personality to the point of absolute obedience. The total estimates regarding the number of those who have undergone this experiment are between approx. 1000 and 5000. It was the largest and most aggressive brainwashing program.

This plan involved the re-education of all political opponents in the communist spirit, by erasing the old identity of each and replacing it with a new one, typically Bolshevik. The detainee did not have to "heal" after being released, following his own communist behavior. The plan will only be possible with the help of uninterrupted torture and the torture system, when the torturer was in the same cell with the victim, until the proposed objective was met. The continuous suffering caused the prisoner to lose his personality and human dignity, reaching internal weakness, which favored the implementation in the prisoner's psyche of a typical communist social conscience. the tormented people also offered the names of other so-called "collaborators" of the former parties, especially of the Iron Guard. Thus, the accused were arrested by the Security and sent to Pitești for re-education.

Some of the detainees became victims of "executors"- torturers.

At that time, the head of the Security was the well-known Nikolski, who was supported by Colonel Dulgheru and Colonel Sepeanu. At the penitentiary in Pitești, the director was the captain Dumitrescu Alexandru.

He will be transferred to the Mărgineni prison immediately after the Pitești experiment is over. Captain Dumitrescu's right hand was Lieutenant Marina, a convinced communist who shared anti-Christian ideas. Among the guards, who in turn were former detainees, the most important was Eugen Turcanu. He was part of the Cross Brotherhoods of the legionaries, from 1940-1941, leaving the Legionary Movement after the January 1941 rebellion and joining the Romanian Communist Party. În perioada guvernării lui Antonescu, evreii au fost eliminați în totalitate din activitatea militară. Zeci de mii dintre cetățenii români de etnie evreiască au fost incluși în detașament de muncă forțată. În același timp, accesul lor a fost interzis în școli, universități, teatre, personalul medical evreiesc a fost concediat, dar și literatura scriitorilor evrei a fost scoasă din librării și biblioteci publice. În ziua de 30 iunie 1941, au plecat din Gara Iași două trenuri încărcate cu evrei care urmau să fie deportați. Acele trenuri au fost denumite ulterior „trenurile morții”.

Primul tren a plecat spre Călărași, parcurgând acest drum timp de șapte zile, dar cel de-al doilea a mers spre Podu Iloaiei, făcând până acolo opt ore. Cel de al doilea tren care a plecat spre Podu Iloaiei în dimineața zilei de 30 iunie 1941 avea 18 vagoane, care transportau 1.902 de evrei.

Condițiile în care erau transportați evreii erau inumane, aceștia ajungând sa moară pentru că nu aveau hrană, dar mai ales pentru că rămâneau fără oxigen din cauza celor morți care cădeau peste ei. Din cei 1.902 evrei care au plecat din Iași, au mai ajuns doar 708.

După declanșarea planului Barbarossa, românii și germanii au eliberat relativ rapid Basarabia, Herta și Bucovina de nord. Au trecut Nistrul pătrunzând pe teritoriul sovietic. Teritoriul Ucrainean dintre Nistru și Bug, Transnistria, a trecut sub administrație românească, astfel, numărul evreilor care se aflau sub autoritatea românească a ajuns la cca 675.000, dintre care 135.000 erau ucraineni.

On June 30, 1941, two trains loaded with Jews who were to be deported left Gara Iași.

Those trains were later called "death trains".

The Ukrainian territory between the Dniester and the Bug, Transnistria, passed through the Romanian administration, thus, the number of Jews that were under the Romanian authority reached about 675,000, of which 135,000 were Ukrainians.

Înaintea prigonirii lor, mulţi evrei din Piteşti aveau o situaţie materială bună, erau înscrişi în partidele politice locale şi aveau capacitatea de a înfluenţa mersul administraţiei oraşului, după intrarea în vigoare a legislaţiei antisemite, pentru aceştia din urmă lucrurile nu s-au schimbat radical. "La 1941, în oraşul Piteşti erau doar 29 de firme comerciale deţinute de patroni evrei, aflate cu precădere în zona comercială centrală, pe strada Şerban Vodă, actualmente strada Victoriei. Era vorba de mici afaceri de familie cu magazine de haine şi încălţăminte, depozite de băuturi spirtoase, băcănii, parfumerii, librării, un atelier de ceasornicărie şi unul de fotografie etc. care acopereau practic principale ramuri ale comerţului local şi mai puţin ramurile de producţie. Restul evreilor din oraş erau liber profesionişti: medici (dr. Raistat specializat la Paris), avocaţi (Abamovici Moise), contabili (Elias Mişu, contabil la cofetăria Ion Borănescu), giuvaergii cu brevete (Feldman Iancu) etc. În 29 septembrie Ministerul de Externe făcea cunoscut prefectului că urmează să fie „găzduiţi” la Piteşti sau Curtea de Argeş un număr de 154 polonezi funcţionari ai Ministerului de Externe polonez şi care „nu trebuiau să fie împiedicaţi de a călători pentru destinaţiile arătate”.

Judeţul Argeş devenise un mic centru de triere a refugiaţilor pentru a fi îndrumaţi în diferite direcţii. Astfel, la 30 septembrie se făcea cunoscut Poliţiei Piteşti că generalii şi ofiţerii superiori vor fi dirijaţi către Băile Herculane şi Călimăneşti, iar cei inferiori în număr de 150 către Drăgăşani, Corabia, Balş, Costeşti – Argeş, „acolo unde au camere şi masă gratuite” sau dacă nu, „să intre în cazarma din Piteşti”.

Poliţia oraşului Piteşti a luat măsuri ca nici un refugiat polonez să nu intre în Piteşti, Curtea de Argeş şi Costeşti fără ştirea ei. Tabăra pentru militari de la Costeşti a fost înfiinţată la 24 septembrie 1939, dar se va desfiinţa la 4 octombrie 1939, militarii fiind transferaţi la Roşiorii de Vede.

Primii refugiaţi care au fost cazaţi la diferite familii din Piteşti, în luna septembrie, în număr de 72 de persoane erau atât militari cu soţiile şi copiii lor, cât şi civili. Toţi ofiţerii polonezi aflaţi în oraşul Piteşti fără soţiile sau copiii lor erau forţaţi să fie internaţi în cazarmă, iar cei cu familii să fie cazaţi la diferite familii sau hoteluri.

Pitesti also numbered 398 Jews during the Second World War, according to statistics from that time kept in the National Archives of Argeş and the Pitesti Police archive, although before that, the Jewish community was more numerous. In 1919, for example, it had nearly 1000 members, the roots of this community descending before the year 1800, according to historian and archivist Aurel Radu, when a well-closed community was functioning here. "Since the mid-nineteenth century the community had a synagogue, a bathroom and a primary school (1849) in the city center, on Equality Street. These buildings were torn down in 1922, in order to build the existing buildings, a synagogue and a school, at the laying of the foundation stone, was present the minister Dr Constantin Angelescu from the Ministry of Cut and Arts. It should be mentioned that for the builging of these constructions the community was supported by the representative of the PNL from Argeş, the lawyer Honoriu Bănescu", says historian and archivist Aurel Radu.

Before their persecution, many Jews from Pitesti had a good material situation, were registered in the local political parties and had the ability to influence the course of the city administration. After the entry into force of anti-Semitic legislation, for the latter things did not change radically. "In 1941, in the city of Pitesti there were only 29 commercial companies owned

by Jewish patrons, mainly in the central commercial area, on Şerban Voda street, currently Victoriei street. They were small family businesses with clothes and footwear stores, warehouses of spirits, grocers, perfumers, bookstores, a watch shop and a photography studio, etc., which practically covered the main branches of local trade and less the branches of production. The rest of the Jews in the city were free professionals: doctors (Dr. Raistat specialized in Paris), lawyers (Abamovici Moise), accountants (Elias Mişu, accountant at the confectioner's Ion Borănescu), jewelers with patents (Feldman Iancu), etc.

On September 29, the Foreign Ministry announced to the prefect that there will be "lodged" in Pitesti or Curtea de Argeş a number of 154 Polish officials of the Polish Foreign Ministry and "should not be prevented from traveling to the destinations shown". Argeş County had become a small refugee sorting center for guidance in different directions. Thus, on September 30, it was announced to Pitesti Police that the generals and senior officers will be directed to Băile Herculane and Călimăneşti, and the lower ones in number of 150, to Drăgăşani, Corabia, Balş, Costeşti Argeş, "where they have free rooms and meals" or if not, "to enter the barracks in Pitesti".

The police of Pitesti has taken measures that no Polish refugee will enter Pitesti, the Curtea de Arges and Costesti without its knowledge. The camp for the military from Costeşti was established on September 24, 1939 but will be abolished on October 4, 1939, the military being transferred to Roşiorii de Vede. The first refugees who were accommodated in different families in Pitesti, in September, a total of 72 people were both military with their wives and children, as well as children. All Polish officers in the city of Pitesti without their wives or children were forced into the barracks, and those with families to be accommodated in different families or hotels.

Drăguț Violeta Liceul Tehnologic Costești Evreu este un termen etno-confesional care denumește adepții religiei iudaice sau mozaice și cei care s-au convertit la iudaism și urmașii lor (iudaismul ortodox recunoaște adesea, în anumite limite, apartenența la poporul evreu și a evreilor convertiți la alte religii și a copiilor lor născuți din mamă evreică, și există unele grupuri de evrei convertiți la culte creștine care continuă să-și afirme apartenența la poporul evreu). Între 1941 și 1945, evreii au fost uciși sistematic într-un genocid, partea unui eveniment mai mare care a cuprins persecuția și uciderea altor popoare europene numit Holocaust.

Holocaustul înseamna omorârea de către Germania nazistă a șase milioane de evrei. Dacă persecuția nazistă a evreilor a început în 1933, uciderea lor în masă a avut loc în timpul celui De-al Doilea Razboi Mondial.

Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School Jewish is an ethno-denominational term that refers to the followers of the Jewish or Mosaic religion and those who converted to Judaism and their descendants (Orthodox Judaism often recognizes, within certain limits, belonging to the Jewish people and to Jews converted to other religions and children born of a Jewish mother, and there are some groups of Jews converted to Christian cults who continue to assert their belonging to the Jewish people).

Between 1941 and 1945, Jews were systematically killed in a genocide, part of a larger event that involved the persecution and killing of other European people, called the Holocaust.

The Holocaust means the killing of six million Jews by Nazi Germany. If the Nazi persecution of Jews began in 1933, their mass killing took place during World War II. During the Second World War there were only 398 Jews in the Costești city, according to statistics from that time kept in the Argeş National Archives and in the Costești Police archive, although before that, the Jewish community was more numerous. In 1919, for example, it had nearly 1000 members, the roots of this community descending before the year 1800, according to historian and archivist Aurel Radu when a well-established community was functioning here.

Drăguț Violeta Liceul Tehnologic Costești La începutul celui de-al doilea război mondial în Piteşti locuiau circa 400 de evrei care aveau o stare materială bună fiind comercianţi şi liberi profesionişti uniţi în jurul Comunităţii Evreieşti care avea statut de persoană juridică recunoscută încă din anul 1932. De-a lungul străzii centrale a oraşului, numită Şerban Vodă, se aflau cele mai multe magazine deţinute de patronii evrei din Piteşti, 15 din cele 29 existente pe această stradă, comerţul fiind o îndeletnicire predilectă. Alţi evrei din oraş aveau brevete de activitate (giuvaergii, tehnicieni dentari, perieri, tinichigii etc.) sau practicau profesiuni liberale (avocaţi, doctori, ingineri, contabili, fotografi, etc.).

Din perioada statului naţional legionar (septembrie 1940 – februarie 1941) nu s-au păstrat prea multe urme documentare ale acţiunilor legionare faţă de populaţia evreiască din oraş. Autorităţile locale conduse de legionari (Prefectura Argeş condusă de dr. Mihail Georgescu, Primăria şi Poliţia Piteşti) au ordonat şi realizat percheziţii domiciliare în timpul nopţii la unii evrei mai înstăriţi din oraş de unde au confiscat unele bunuri, aşa cum a fost cazul comerciantului Mişu Michelstein care deţinea un magazin en-gros în zona centrală a oraşului, în Piaţa Episcopiei. De asemenea, din alte surse documentare unilaterale, reiese că în zilele rebeliunii din ianuarie 1941, înlăturarea legionarilor din fruntea instituţiilor locale s-a făcut în linişte şi fără violenţe, după cum susţinea comandantul Legiunii de Jandarmi Argeş, lt.col. Modest Isopescu.

După impunerea dictaturii militare a generalului Ion Antonescu politicile antisemite s-au aplicat în continuare în direcţii care au vizat în principal excluderea evreilor din societatea românească prin românizarea economiei şi românizarea personalului din întreprinderi: 1. Pentru coordonarea şi supravegherea cât mai strictă, toate asociaţiile şi organizaţiile evreieşti au fost desfiinţate, inclusiv Comunitatea Evreiască din Piteşti care a trecut în subordinea Oficiului Judeţean

Argeş al Centralei Evreilor din România.

2. Au fost expropriate, fără despăgubire, toate bunurile deţinute de evrei în zonele rurale, iar aceştia au fost mutaţi forţat cu domiciliu obligatoriu în oraşul Piteşti, în total 12 persoane. Au fost naţionalizate toate imobilele, cu excepţia sinagogii, care au trecut în administrarea temporară a Centrului Naţional de Românizare (CNR) Bucureşti. O parte din foştii proprietari evrei au devenit chiriaşi toleraţi pe sume mari de bani în câteva camere din propriile case, iar celelalte camere rămase libere erau închiriate contracost unor instituţii locale sau persoane particulare care plăteau chirie direct CNR. Şcoala evreiască aflată lângă sinagogă a fost închiriată Poliţiei Piteşti care la acea dată nu avea un local propriu.

3. Toţi comercianţii au fost obligaţi mai întâi să-şi „dubleze” angajaţii evrei specializaţi cu „etnici români” pentru o perioadă scurtă de timp, după care urma concedierea. Evreii erau obligaţi să solicite inspectorului special de românizare din judeţul Argeş, profesorul Mihail Ilovici reprezentant al Oficiului Central de Românizare (OCR) Bucureşti, aprobarea dreptului de a munci. Rezoluţiile profesorului Ilovici erau adesea de concediere şi de punerea evreilor la dispoziţia autorităţilor locale în vederea prestării muncilor obligatorii.

Totuşi, OCR avea drept de decizie definitivă, numea în locul evreilor concediaţi „români etnici”, în special din rândul refugiaţilor din Ardeal, Basarabia şi Cadrilater sau stabilea în mod arbitrar retribuţia pe care trebuia să o primească angajatul. S-a creat un haos birocratic pentru că de cele mai multe ori OCR făcea numirile cu întârziere, personalul desemnat nu se prezenta la locul de muncă sau postul vacant era între timp ocupat de o altă persoană aleasă liber de angajator. În aceste condiţii precare de existenţă şi nesiguranţă, conducerea OJCE Argeş evreii a avut dorinţa şi sprijinul Centralei Evreilor din România condusă de Wilhelm Filderman, de a înfiinţa în 1942 o clasă de învăţământ primar în clădirea sinagogii din oraş, a întemeiat şi susţinut o cantină socială, a sprijinit cu bani pe acei evrei mai săraci, în timp ce unii evrei au încercat să-şi câştige existenţa practicând comerţul ambulant pe străzile oraşului, deşi această practică era interzisă. Se poate afirma că birocraţia şi corupţia administraţiei statului au fost factorii atenuanţi care au înlesnit uneori derogări temporare şi izolate de la aplicarea legislaţiei antisemite.

The Jews from Pitești, Argeș Student: Ceche Adriana Joelle Prof. coordin. Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School At the beginning of the Second World War in Pitesti lived about 400 Jews who had a good material status being traders and freelancers united around the Jewish Community, which had the status of legal entity recognized since 1932.

Along the central street of the city called Serban Voda, there were most shops owned by the Jewish employers in Pitesti, 15 of the 29 existing on this street, the trade being a favorite activity. Other Jews in the city had activity patents (jewelers, dental technicians, brushers, etc.) or practiced liberal professions (lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants, photographers, etc.).

During the period of the legionary national state (September 1940 - February 1941) there were not many documented traces of the legionary actions against the Jewish population in the city.

Local authorities led by legionaries (Argeş Prefecture led by dr. Mihail Georgescu, City Hall and Pitesti Police) ordered and conducted house searches during the night to some wealthy Jews from the city where they confiscated some goods, as was the case with Mişu Michelstein who owned a wholesale store in the central area of the city, in the Episcopate Square. Also, from other unilateral documentary sources, it appears that in the days of the rebellion of January 1941, the removal of the legionaries from the front of the local institutions was done quietly and without violence, as claimed by the commander of the Gendarmes Argeş Legion, Lt. Col. Modest Isopescu.

After the imposition of the military dictatorship of General Ion Antonescu, the anti-Semitic policies continued to be applied in the directions that mainly aimed at excluding the Jews from the Romanian society through the Romanian economy and the Romanian personnel in the enterprises: 1. For the strictest coordination and supervision, all Jewish associations and organizations were abolished, including the Jewish Community of Pitesti, which was subordinated to the Argeş County Office of the Jewish Central in Romania.

2. All the property owned by the Jews in the rural areas was expropriated, without compensation, and they were forced to move with mandatory residence in the city of Pitesti, a total of 12 people.

All the buildings have been nationalized, except for the synagogue, which passed into the temporary administration of the National Center of Romanianization (CNR) in Bucharest. own homes, and the remaining free rooms were rented at a cost to local institutions or private individuals who paid rent directly to CNR. The Jewish school near the synagogue was rented to the Pitesti Police, which at that time did not have its own premises.

3. All traders were first forced to "double" Jewish employees specialized with "Romanian ethnicities" for a short period of time, after which the dismissal was to take place. The Jews were required to ask the special Romanian inspector from Argeş County, Professor Mihail Ilovici, representative of the Central Office of Romanization (OCR) in Bucharest, to approve the right to work. Professor Ilovici's resolutions were often dismissal and making Jews available to local authorities for compulsory work. However, the OCR had the right of final decision, naming instead of dismissed "ethnic Romanians", especially refugees from Transylvania, Bessarabia and Cadrilater, or arbitrarily establishing the remuneration the employee had to receive. Bureaucratic chaos ensued because most of the time the OCR made the late appointments, the designated staff did not show up at the job or the vacancy was meanwhile occupied by another person freely chosen by the employer.

In these precarious conditions of existence and uncertainty, the OJCE Argeş Jewish leadership had the desire and support of the Jewish Center of Romania led by Wilhelm Filderman, to establish a primary education class in the city's synagogue building in 1942, founded and supported a social canteen, supported the poorer Jews with money, while some Jews tried to make a living by selling on city streets, although this practice was forbidden. It can be said that the bureaucracy and corruption of the state administration were the mitigating factors that sometimes allowed temporary and isolated derogations from the application of anti-Semitic legislation.

Evreii din Pitesti Elev: Preoteasa Iulia Nicoleta Prof. coord. Drăguț Violeta Liceul Tehnologic Costești La începutul celui de-al Doilea Război Mondial în Piteşti locuiau circa 400 de evrei care aveau o stare materială bună fiind comercianţi şi liberi profesionişti uniţi în jurul Comunităţii Evreieşti care avea statut de persoană juridică recunoscută încă din anul 1932. De-a lungul străzii centrale a oraşului numită Şerban Vodă se aflau cele mai multe magazine deţinute de patronii evrei din Piteşti, 15 din cele 29 existente pe această stradă, comerţul fiind o îndeletnicire predilectă. Alţi evrei din oraş aveau brevete de activitate (giuvaergii, tehnicieni dentari, perieri, tinichigii etc.) sau practicau profesiuni liberale (avocaţi, doctori, ingineri, contabili, fotografi etc.).

Din perioada statului naţional legionar (septembrie 1940 – februarie 1941) nu s-au păstrat prea multe urme documentare ale acţiunilor legionare faţă de populaţia evreiască din oraş. Autorităţile locale conduse de legionari (Prefectura Argeş condusă de dr. Mihail Georgescu, Primăria şi Poliţia Piteşti) au ordonat şi realizat percheziţii domiciliare în timpul nopţii la unii evrei mai înstăriţi din oraş de unde au confiscat unele bunuri, aşa cum a fost cazul comerciantului Mişu Michelstein care deţinea un magazin en-gros în zona centrală a oraşului, în Piaţa Episcopiei. De asemenea, din alte surse documentare unilaterale, reiese că în zilele rebeliunii din ianuarie 1941, înlăturarea legionarilor din fruntea instituţiilor locale s-a făcut în linişte şi fără violenţe, după cum susţinea comandantul Legiunii de Jandarmi Argeş, lt.col. Modest Isopescu.

După impunerea dictaturii militare a generalului Ion Antonescu politicile antisemite s-au aplicat în continuare în direcţii care au vizat în principal excluderea evreilor din societatea românească prin românizarea economiei şi românizarea personalului din întreprinderi: 1. Pentru coordonarea si supravegherea cât mai strictă, toate asociaţiile şi organizaţiile evreieşti au fost desfiinţate, inclusiv Comunitatea Evreiască din Piteşti care a trecut în subordinea Oficiului Judeţean Argeş al Centralei Evreilor din România.

2. Au fost expropriate, fără despăgubire, toate bunurile deţinute de evrei în zonele rurale, iar aceştia au fost mutaţi forţat cu domiciliu obligatoriu în oraşul Piteşti, în total 12 persoane. Centrului Naţional de Românizare (CNR) Bucureşti. O parte din foştii proprietari evrei au devenit chiriaşi toleraţi pe sume mari de bani în câteva camere din propriile case, iar celelalte camere rămase libere erau închiriate contracost unor instituţii locale sau persoane particulare care plăteau chirie direct CNR. Şcoala evreiască aflată lângă sinagogă a fost închiriată Poliţiei Piteşti care la acea dată nu avea un local propriu.

3. Toţi comercianţii au fost obligaţi mai întâi să-şi „dubleze” angajaţii evrei specializaţi cu „etnici români” pentru o perioadă scurtă de timp, după care urma concedierea. Evreii erau obligaţi să solicite inspectorului special de românizare din judeţul Argeş, profesorul Mihail Ilovici reprezentant al Oficiului Central de Românizare (OCR) Bucureşti, aprobarea dreptului de a munci. Rezoluţiile profesorului Ilovici erau adesea de concediere şi de punerea evreilor la dispoziţia autorităţilor locale în vederea prestării muncilor obligatorii. Totuşi, OCR avea drept de decizie definitivă, numea în locul evreilor concediaţi „români etnici”, în special din rândul refugiaţilor din Ardeal, Basarabia şi Cadrilater sau stabilea în mod arbitrar retribuţia pe care trebuia să o primească angajatul. S-a creat un haos birocratic pentru că de cele mai multe ori OCR făcea numirile cu întârziere, personalul desemnat nu se prezenta la locul de muncă sau postul vacant era între timp ocupat de o altă persoană aleasă liber de angajator.

4. Au fost anulate toate brevetele de meserii şi s-a interzis practicarea meseriilor liberale decât prin ordine de rechiziţie venite din partea autorităţilor administrative şi militare. Evreii au fost obligaţi să presteze muncă forţată pentru folosul obştesc sub coordonarea şi supravegherea Cercului de Recrutare Argeş şi a Prefecturii Argeş, însă cei mai înstăriţi sau influenţi şi-au putut cumpăra libertatea.

5. Pentru a susţine efortul de război dus de ţară evreii au fost constrânşi prin intermediul OJCE Argeş să contribuie cu sume mari de bani pentru „Împrumutul Reîntregirii”. Numai în anii 1941 şi 1942 s-au strâns peste 7.000.000 lei, în condiţiile în care o casă nou construită în satul model Antoneşti (comuna Corbeni, Argeş) care fusese devastat de inundaţiile din vara anului 1941, era evaluată la un preţ de cost care pornea de la 250.000 lei. De asemenea, au contribuit cu 100 de paturi pentru spitalele cu răniţi de război şi cu articole de îmbrăcăminte pentru opera de asistenţă socială etc.

6. La finele anului 1941, după declararea oraşului Ploieşti şi a judeţului Prahova zone strategice petrolifere, evreii au fost obligaţi să părăsească urgent zona. Circa 90 de evrei originari din Ploieşti şi-au stabilit domiciliu obligatoriu în oraşul Piteşti, după ce trecuseră mai întâi prin lagărul intermediar de la Teiş – Târgovişte. În anul următor, peste 50 de evrei din rândul celor autohtoni şi dintre cei de la Ploieşti au fost deportaţi în Transnistria sub pretextul unor acuzaţiile generale de sabotaj economic la legea de românizare sau pentru desfăşurarea unor activităţi comuniste. În rândul celor deportaţi s-au aflat şi membri din cadrul comitetului OJCE Argeş: avocaţii Iosif Bercovici şi Iosif Elias, precum şi Mauriciu Braunstein.

Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School At the beginning of the Second World War in Pitesti lived about 400 Jews who had a good material status being traders and freelancers united around the Jewish Community, which had the status of legal entity recognized since 1932. Along the central street of the city called Serban Voda, there were most shops owned by the Jewish employers in Pitesti, 15 of the 29 existing on this street, the trade being a favorite activity. Other Jews in the city had activity patents (jewelers, dental technicians, brushes, tinsmiths, etc.) or practiced liberal professions (lawyers, doctors, engineers, accountants, photographers, etc.).

During the period of the legionary national state (September 1940 - February 1941) there were not many documented traces of the legionary actions against the Jewish population in the city.

Local authorities led by legionaries (Argeş Prefecture led by dr. Mihail Georgescu, City Hall and Pitesti Police) ordered and conducted house searches during the night with some wealthy Jews from the city where they confiscated some goods, as was the case with Mişu Michelstein who owned a wholesale store in the central area of the city, in the Episcopate Square. Also, from other unilateral documentary sources, it appears that in the days of the rebellion of January 1941, the removal of the legionaries from the front of the local institutions was done quietly and without violence, as claimed by the commander of the Gendarmes Argeş Legion, Lt. Col. Modest Isopescu.

After the imposition of the military dictatorship of General Ion Antonescu, the anti-Semitic policies continued to be applied in the directions that aimed mainly at excluding the Jews from the Romanian society through the Romanian economy and the Romanian personnel from the enterprises: 1. For the strictest coordination and supervision, all Jewish associations and organizations were abolished, including the Jewish Community of Pitesti, which was subordinated to the Argeş County Office of the Jewish Central in Romania.

2. All the property owned by the Jews in the rural areas was expropriated, without compensation, and they were forced to move with mandatory residence in the city of Pitesti, a total of 12 people.

All the buildings have been nationalized, except for the synagogue, which passed into the temporary administration of the National Center of Romanianization (CNR) in Bucharest. Some of the former Jewish landlords became renters who were paying large sums of money in several rooms of their own homes, and the remaining free rooms were rented at a cost to local institutions or private individuals who paid rent directly to CNR. The Jewish school near the synagogue was rented to the Pitesti Police, which at that time did not have its own premises.

4. All trade patents were canceled and the practice of liberal trades was prohibited only by order of requisition from the administrative and military authorities. The Jews were forced to perform labor for public use under the coordination and supervision of the Argeş Recruitment Circle and the Argeş Prefecture, but the most wealthy or influential could buy their freedom.

5. In order to support the war effort carried out by the country, the Jews were forced through OJCE Arges to contribute large sums of money for the "Loan of Reunification". In 1941 and 1942, over 7,000,000 lei were collected, when a newly built house in the model village of Antoneşti (Corbeni, Arges) commune that had been devastated by the floods of the summer of 1941, was evaluated at a price of cost starting from 250,000 lei. They also contributed 100 beds for hospitals with war wounded and clothing for social work.

6. At the end of 1941, after the declaration of the city of Ploiesti and of the Prahova county, strategic oil areas, the Jews were forced to leave the area urgently. About 90 Jews from Ploieşti settled in Piteşti, after having first passed through the intermediate camp from Teiş - Târgovişte.

The following year, more than 50 Jews from the local ones and those from Ploieşti were deported to Transnistria on the pretext of general accusations of economic sabotage under the Romanian law or for carrying out communist activities. Among the deportees there were also members of the OJCE Argeş committee: lawyers Iosif Bercovici and Iosif Elias, as well as Mauriciu Braunstein.

7. Other repressive measures specific to the period of the war against the Jews were: the prohibition of the right of free movement without the agreement of the authorities at ministerial level, the confiscation of all radio equipment, the rationalization and the restriction of the access to the food of first necessity, the prohibition to employ Christian personnel or to get in touch with the peasants who came to the city, etc.

Experimentul Piteşti Elev: Rădoi Alina-Georgiana Prof. coord. Drăguț Violeta Liceul Tehnologic Costești Închisoarea Pitești este numele sub care este cunoscut fostul penitenciar din Piteşti, România, renumit pentru așa-zisele încercări de „reeducare”, efectuate sub autorizația autorităților comuniste în perioada anilor 1949-1952 (cunoscute și sub denumirea Experimentul Pitești sau Fenomenul Pitești). Acest experiment nu poate fi redus la o scuză pentru administrarea unor bătăi și torturi brutale, administrate zilnic cu scopul de a „reeduca total” deținuții politici, majoritatea studenți, membri în grupări interzise de comuniști ca Partidul Național Țărănesc și Partidul Național Liberal, precum și cei inspirați de Garda de Fier sau membri sionişti ai comunității evreiești din România. Esența metodei folosite la Pitești este transformarea victimelor în cǎlǎi, tortura putând fi apreciatǎ drept un simplu mijloc, nu un scop.

până la punctul obedienței absolute. Estimările totale referitor la numărul celor care au suferit acest experiment sunt cuprinse între aproximativ 1000 și 5000. A fost cel mai mare și cel mai agresiv program de spălare a creierului prin tortură din blocul de Est. În Pitești se desfășoară anual Simpozionul Internațional „Experimentul Pitești – Reeducarea prin Tortură”, ajuns în 2016 la ediția a 16-a. În acea perioadă, șeful Securității era cunoscutul Nikolski, acesta fiind sprijinit de colonelul Dulgheru și colonelul Sepeanu. La penitenciarul din Pitești, director era căpitanul Dumitrescu Alexandru. Acesta va fi transferat la închisoarea de la Mărgineni imediat după ce va lua sfârșit experimentul de la Pitești. Mâna dreaptă a căpitanului Dumitrescu era locotenentul Marina, un comunist convins ce împărtășea idei anticreștine. Printre gardieni, care la rândul lor fuseseră foști deținuți, cel mai de seamă a fost Eugen Țurcanu. Acesta a făcut parte din Frățiile de Cruce ale legionarilor, în perioada anilor 1940-1941, urmând a părăsi Mișcarea Legionară după rebeliunea din ianuarie 1941 și a se înscrie în Partidul Comunist Român. Mai târziu, Țurcanu va deveni membru în Biroul Județean de Partid din Iași. Unul dintre foștii camarazi legionari ai lui Țurcanu, din anturajul lui Alexandru Bogdanovici (șef legionar), îl va denunța pe acesta în 1948 după o anchetă a Securității. Țurcanu va fi condamnat la 7 ani de închisoare corecțională, urmând a fi trimis la Pitești, unde va ajunge torționar și va tortura sute de prizonieri, răzbunându-se pe Bogdanovici sub pretextul că acesta „aranjase” denunțarea lui. Dumitru Bacu explică motivele pentru care a fost aleasă închisoarea de la Pitești pentru acest teribil experiment. Penitenciarul se află lângă municipiul Pitești, în direcția N-V, în apropierea unui pârâu. Lângă complexul respectiv nu se afla nici o locuință, fapt ce a permis o bună desfășurare a ostilităților față de deținuți, în incinta penitenciarului.

Tot Bacu ne mai relatează că studenții din penitenciar erau împărţiţi în patru categorii: În prima categorie intrau cei reținuți fără sentință judecătorească. În a doua categorie se aflau cei condamnați pentru delicte minore. În cea de-a treia se găseau deținuții ce reprezentau „dușmanii mai mici ai regimului”. În fine, în cea de-a patra categorie intrau opozanții convinși ai regimului, fie din vreun partid sau pur și simplu regaliști ori anticomuniști. Această împărțire avea ca scop bine definit izolarea „șefilor” față de categoriile minore, pentru a împiedica o eventuală comunicare între deținuți și astfel, a crea o stare de incertitudine în psihicul fiecărui deținut. Corespondența cu familiile prizonierilor și rudele acestora va fi suprimată. Procesul reeducării de la Pitești avea patru faze: 1. Demascarea externă unde deținutul trebuia să-și arate credința și loialitatea față de partid, ideologia comunistă și față de Organizația Deținuților cu Convingeri Comuniste (O.D.C.C.).

Deținutul trebuia să mărturisească orice informație care putea ajuta la anchetă și să denunțe orice persoană care intrase în contact cu cel anchetat, din considerente politice sau sociale. erau făcute întâi verbal, în plină tortură, urmând a fi verificate de cineva din Comitetul de Reeducare, apoi notate în scris, semnate cu forța de către cel anchetat și trimise la Interne.

2. Demascarea internă presupunea denunțarea oricărui coleg de celulă sau din penitenciar, ce dăduse ajutor altui deținut, fie prin sprijin moral ori material, sau care făcuse afirmații defăimătoare la adresa regimului comunist, penitenciarului ori la adresa lui Țurcanu sau altor torționari. Această fază a procesului reeducării urmărea anihilarea morală a deținutului și distrugerea personalității și caracterului acestuia.

3. Demascarea publică făcea referire la faptul că deținutul trebuia să renunțe la orice pasiuni și dorinţe, precum și la orice ideal propriu, începând cu familia, rudele, prietenii și terminând cu credința în Dumnezeu.

4. În ultima fază, deținutul este silit să conducă procesul de reeducare al celui mai bun prieten al său, devenind torționarul acestuia.

Tortură nu consta numai în forța fizică, ci era în primul rând o tortură psihică ce făcea deținutul să cedeze psihic și să asculte necondiționat de torționarii săi, măcar pentru o clipă de liniște. După oprirea experimentului, se va organiza un așa-zis proces ce avea ca scop unic găsirea vinovaților pentru aceste evenimente fară precedent în istoria României. Comuniștii vor da vina pe legionari, prin persoana lui Horia Sima. Ei vor susține că acesta a dat ordin unor legionari ce se aflau în penitenciarul de la Pitești, să recurgă la un regim de teroare față de toți prizonierii, inclusiv față de camarazii lor gardiști. Cel mai bun exemplu era oferit prin persoana fostului legionar Eugen Țurcanu, care va ajunge gardian în penitenciar și va aborda un comportament brutal față de prizonieri. Acest eveniment s-ar fi produs datorită lipsei de vigilență a administrației închisorii, urmând ca Securitatea să demaște acest plan “legionar” și să treacă la măsuri dure. Bineînţeles că aceste afirmații ale regimului comunist de la București erau niște aberații. Măsurile de securitate de la penitenciar erau foarte drastice, astfel că un asemenea plan era practic imposibil de realizat.

Fiecare mișcare a deținuților era controlată cu strictețe.

Majoritatea deținuților din penitenciarul de la Pitești erau legionari. Alături de ei se găseau și naţional-ţărănişti, liberali sau evrei sioniști ce fuseseră reținuți de către Securitate. Membrii O.D.C.C. în frunte cu Țurcanu vor fi judecați și condamnați la moarte pentru torturile acestora față de prizonieri. Acest proces va fi secret, la el neputând participa decât organele comuniste. Printre deținuți, se găsesc persoane precum Alexandru Todea, Dumitru Bordeianu, Corneliu Coposu, Valeriu Gafencu, Ioan Ianolide, Eugen Măgirescu, Gheorghe Calciu-Dumitreasa, Constantin Oprişan, Mihai Iosub, Ioan Pintilie sau preotul Roman Braga.

Nici măcar în Gulagurile sovietice nu vom întâlni asemenea metode. Singurul stat unde vom putea observa procese similare de reeducare va fi China Maoistă, unde există un experiment asemănător în închisorile de la Pekin. Acolo, toți deținuții erau reeducați printr-un proces similar, urmând a deveni comuniști convinși. La Pitești și Pekin, sistemul de reeducare avea aceleași planuri, și anume transformarea deținuților în torționari și folosirea lor împotriva altor deținuți, până la atingerea scopului propus: reeducarea în spiritul comunist. Fenomenul Pitești va depăși în oroare, și nu în durată, reeducarea maoistă din închisorile de la Pekin.

The Pitesti experiment Student: Rădoi Alina-Georgiana Prof. coordin. Drăguț Violeta Costeşti Technological High School Pitești Prison is the name under which the former penitentiary in Piteşti, Romania, is known, renowned for the so-called "re-education" attempts, carried out under the authorization of the communist authorities during the years 1949-1952 (also known as the Pitești Experiment or the Pitești Phenomenon). This experiment cannot be reduced to an excuse for administering brutal beatings and tortures, administered daily with the aim of "completely re-educating" political prisoners, most students, members in groups banned by communists such as the National Peasant Party and the National Liberal Party, as well as those inspired by the Iron Guard or Zionist members of the Jewish community in Romania. The essence of the method used in Pitesti is the transformation of victims into executioners, torture can be appreciated as a simple means, not a purpose.

The purpose of the experiment, according to the Leninist principles in the interpretation of PCR, was to deny the political and religious beliefs and ideas of the prisoners, and finally to alter the personality to the point of absolute obedience. The total estimates regarding the number of those who underwent this experiment are between about 1000 and 5000. It was the largest and most aggressive brain washing program by torture in the Eastern Bloc.

In Pitești, the International Symposium "Pitești Experiment - Re-education through Torture" is held annually, reaching in 2016 the 16th edition.

At that time, the head of the Security was the well-known Nikolski, who was supported by Colonel Dulgheru and Colonel Sepeanu. At the penitentiary in Pitești, the director was the captain Dumitrescu Alexandru. He will be transferred to the Mărgineni prison immediately after the Pitești experiment is over. communist who shared anti-Christian ideas. Among the guards, who in turn were former detainees, the most important was Eugen Turcanu. He was part of the Cross Brotherhoods of the legionaries, from 1940-1941, leaving the Legionary Movement after the January 1941 rebellion and joining the Romanian Communist Party. Later, Turcanu will become a member of the County Party Bureau in Iași. One of Turcanu's former legionary comrades, from the entourage of Alexandru Bogdanovici (legionary chief), will denounce him in 1948 after a Security investigation. Turcanu will be sentenced to 7 years of correctional prison, to be sent to Pitesti, where he will become tortured and tortured hundreds of prisoners, avenging Bogdanovici on the pretext that he had "arranged" his denunciation. Dumitru Bacu explains the reasons why the Pitești prison was chosen for this terrible experiment. The penitentiary is located near the town of Pitești, in the N-V direction, near a stream.

There was no house near the complex, which allowed a good unfolding of hostilities towards the prisoners, inside the penitentiary. Bacu also tells us that the students in the penitentiary were divided into four categories: The first category included those detained without a court sentence. In the second category were those convicted of misdemeanors. In the third one were the detainees who represented the "smaller enemies of the regime". Finally, in the fourth category came the convinced opponents of the regime, either from a party or simply royalists or anti-communists. The purpose of this division was to clearly isolate the "chiefs" from the minor categories, in order to prevent any communication between the prisoners and thus create a state of uncertainty in the psyche of each prisoner.

Correspondence with the families of the prisoners and their relatives will be suppressed. The process of rehabilitation from Pitesti had four phases: 1. The external betrayal where the detainee had to show his faith and loyalty to the party, the communist ideology and the Organization of Communist Believers (O.D.C.C.). The detainee had to confess any information that could help the investigation and denounce any person who came in contact with the investigator, for political or social reasons. The statements were first made verbally, in full torture, to be verified by someone from the Reeducation Committee, then written down, signed by the investigator and sent to the Interior.

2. Internal betrayal meant denouncing any colleague from the cell or the penitentiary, who had given help to another inmate, either through moral or material support, or who had made defamatory statements to the communist regime, the penitentiary or to Țurcanu or other torturers.

This phase of the re-education process was aimed at the moral annihilation of the prisoner and the destruction of his personality and character.

3. Public betrayal referred to the fact that the prisoner had to give up any passions and desires, as well as any ideal of his own, starting with family, relatives, friends and ending with faith in God. 4. In the last phase, the prisoner is forced to lead the process of re-education of his best friend, becoming his tormentor.

Torture was not only about physical force, but it was primarily a mental torture that made the inmate give up psychically and listen unconditionally to his torturers, at least for a moment of silence. After stopping the experiment, a so-called process will be organized that had the sole purpose of finding the culprits for these events without precedent in the history of Romania. The Communists will blame the legionaries, through the person of Horia Sima. ordered some legionaries in the Pitești penitentiary to resort to a regime of terror towards all prisoners, including their guardian comrades. The best example was offered by the person of the former legionary Eugen Țurcanu, who will become a guard in the penitentiary and will deal with a brutal behavior towards prisoners. This event would have occurred due to the lack of vigilance of the prison administration, following the Security to dismiss this "legionary" plan and to pass tough measures. Of course, these statements of the Communist regime in Bucharest were aberrations. The security measures at the penitentiary were very drastic, so such a plan was practically impossible to achieve. Each movement of the prisoners was strictly controlled.

Most of the prisoners in Pitești penitentiary were legionaries. Beside them were also nationalist peasants, liberals or Zionist Jews who had been detained by the Security. The members of the O.D.C.C. in front of Țurcanu they will be tried and sentenced to death for their torture against prisoners. This process will be secret, only communist bodies can participate in it. Among the detainees are persons such as Alexandru Todea, Dumitru Bordeianu, Corneliu Coposu, Valeriu Gafencu, Ioan Ianolide, Eugen Măgirescu, Gheorghe Calciu-Dumitreasa, Constantin Oprişan, Mihai Iosub, Ioan Pintilie or the priest Roman Braga.

Not even in the Soviet Gulags will we encounter such methods. The only state where we can see similar re-education processes will be Maoist China, where there is a similar experiment in Beijing prisons. There, all the prisoners were re-educated through a similar process, becoming convinced communists. In Pitești and Beijing, the re-education system had the same plans, namely the conversion of detainees into torturers and their use against other prisoners, until the proposed goal was achieved: re-education in the communist spirit. The Pitești phenomenon will surpass in horror, and not in duration, the Maoist re-education of the prisons in Beijing.
