Advanced spinning cone technologies have resulted in some pretty competitive flavor profiles. No-alcohol wines face acceptance challenges despite improvements in taste, but interest in them is growing. If you’re a restaurant or retailer, offering a non-alcoholic wine might soon be as important as featuring a locally brewed kombucha or craft beer. agricultural practices and, ideally, combat climate change by sequestering carbon in the soil and enhancing the land’s overall resilience. While not strictly organic or biodynamic, “la lutte raisonnée” seeks a middle ground where chemical treatments are used only when necessary and are always considered a last resort. It’s a conscientious approach that feels much more attainable for many farmers.

Regenerative viticulture aims to establish a diverse ecosystem in vineyards, promoting soil health, resilience to weather extremes, and longer-lived vines with consistent yields.

Justin Howard-Sneyd MW is a key figure leading this movement, emphasizing the urgent need to address soil degradation. He highlights a significant global problem with soil erosion, stating that only around 60 harvests remain if current rates persist. Regenerative viticulture is viewed as applicable to various farming philosophies, providing a science-led, sustainable alternative to conventional practices that often disrupt the natural balance.

Several large-scale wine producers, committed to regenerative techniques, seek improved soil health, reduced input costs, and vineyards resilient to weather challenges. The Regenerative Viticulture Foundation, established over 18 months ago, actively promotes these techniques. Advocates argue that regenerative viticulture is not exclusive to boutique producers; it can be applied on large vineyards, even in regions like Australia’s Riverland or California’s Central Valley. The movement also emphasizes the abandonment of herbicides, promoting the importance of permanent ground cover. Weed control methods include the use of animals like sheep, chickens, and geese, contributing to nutrient recycling.

The shift towards regenerative viticulture reflects a broader industry acknowledgment of the necessity for sustainable practices to positively impact the environment and enhance vineyard productivity.

Instead of relying on herbicides, the natural grazing behavior of sheep helps manage grass and weeds, preventing them from competing with the vines for nutrients and sunlight. This fosters a healthier vineyard ecosystem by reducing the need for chemical inputs and promoting biodiversity.

Love you Bunches As Valentine’s Day draws near, the Love You Bunches wine from Stolpman Vineyards emerges as a delightful expression of affectionate winemaking.

The name itself is a playful nod to the extra “loving” treatment bestowed upon grape bunches during harvest, specifically for carbonic fermentation.

This meticulous process involves keeping the clusters intact and un-crushed, allowing fermentation to initiate within each grape. The result is a wine with a delicately high-toned profile, harvested early to achieve a lighter mouthfeel and higher acidity.

The charm of Love You Bunches extends beyond its winemaking technique to its label, a simple and whimsical design that perfectly captures the essence of the wine. The unique penmanship showcased on the label belongs to none other than Ruben Solorzano, the esteemed vineyard manager and affectionately known as The Grape Whisperer. Ruben is more than a figurehead; he’s a beloved personality at Stolpman Vineyards, embodying the spirit of a team dedicated to their craft.

Stolpman Vineyards itself is a story of passion and commitment, founded

by Tom and Marilyn Stolpman. The journey began with a dream sparked during their honeymoon in Napa Valley, leading to the acquisition of the vineyard in 1988. In 1994, Ruben and Maria Solorzano joined as vineyard managers, shaping a culture of year-round teamwork, mentorship, and a unique profit-sharing program. Peter, Tom’s son, joined in 2009, steering the vineyard towards wine production and expanding the profit-sharing initiative.

Together, they have woven a narrative reminiscent of the early pioneers of American winegrowing, embracing trial and error and evolving their skills through collaboration. With the So Fresh wines, including Love You Bunches, Stolpman Vineyards continues to capture the hearts of wine enthusiasts with a commitment to quality, sustainability, and a touch of whimsy.
