Frank Robson & Clearwater Capers Runs (1)

It was 1.00 pm and 13 cars had assembled at the clubrooms. After a prerun briefing and three questions asked by (organiser) Greg Elder, we headed off three minutes apart. From the club we went down to the heavy traffic by-pass and crossed the Mataura River going on and turning into Wentworth Street, turned right on to McKinnon Street and then back onto State Highway 1, on to McNab, then Willowbank where we headed off towards Waikaka before going onto East Chatton Road, followed by turning left and motoring on until turning onto Kemp Road and climbed quite high giving us some rather spectacular views down onto the Waimea Valley. Now, this road is gravel and clay, but Greg had warned us about it before we left, so no surprise there. If you don’t mind a wee bit of dust, it’s well worth going along it for the views.

We clocked in and then settled in for a cuppa. Areally good afternoon out, a beautiful warm autumn day, windows down, bugs splattered all over the Rover and no breakdowns by anyone.

Greg worked out the winners and presented them with prizes of whitebait for their efforts. Katy & John Parish won the Frank Robson Memorial Run in the Napier while Bill & Dawn Sheddan won the Clearwater Capers in their Sunbeam.

Nice to meet Mike and Diana Rickerby, out for their first club run.
Thanks again Greg, Murray Proctor

Us at the start
Today we set off on a car run. We were the second last car to leave the car club. There were magnificent views on loop one. There were thirteen cars on the run. We were about sixth to get to Mr Elder’s house. When we got out of the Buick we played with a volleyball and had a picnic. We came second place in the car run. We saw lots of cool cars.

Then we discovered our hubcap went missing so we had to go back around the loop again, but we had no luck.

There were 13 cars on the run today, they are all colourful. [In the emailed versions anyway! Ed.] Iloved the car run. Liam got to read the instructions. Then we had a picnic. We saw some horses and cows and sheep and goats. The cows had silage and green grass. We went to Mr Elder’s house.
