The Vintage Camper Trailers Facbook page continues to grow and is well over 570,000 likes! With all of these people liking the page, I am frequently asked why Vintage Camper Trailers posts do not show up on their Facebook news feeds. Facebook uses algorithms to limit businesses’ posts, like the VCT Magazine, from being seen by all of the “Likers” on the page. There are three things you can do to make sure the pages you like continue to show up in your news feed. 1. Hold your cursor over the “Liked” button at the top of your favorite pages and select “See First” in the drop down menu. 2. Click on “Notifications” in that same drop down menu and select “All On” 3. Interact with the Vintage Camper Trailers Facebook page. The more you “Like” and comment on pictures and status updates, the more you will see them in your news feed!! You can also stay connected with the VCT community by using the “Newsletter Signup” tab under the image at the top of our Facebook page. Other ways that you can stay connected with us is our Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest and our free email newsletter. You can sign up for our newsletter from our Facebook page or website. We have also recently started a Blog on our website so you can get up to date info at your leisure. A subscription to this magazine gets you all of the rallies in the USA and all of the good stuff that isn’t posted on line. OCEAN MESA RALLY Photographs by Richard Rajewski
80 pre-1975 vintage trailers got together for the 5th Annual Ocean Mesa Vintage Trailerists’ Rally in Santa Barbara, CA in March 2016. The rally is hosted by Liz and Barry Marks and Denny and Stuebe Kennedy. Friday night was a cocktail Luau style reception and Photo Booth to get the party started. Saturday night was a Polynesian Style dinner. Campers “pot-lucked it” by bringing the side dishes, salads and desserts. This annual event sells out quick so make your reservations for next year early!

My Pick of Pismo By Paul Lacitinola Pismo Beach, Trailerfest and Buellton rallies are some of the larger events in California and attract a lot of recently restored vintage trailers. Collectors and restorers often debut their work at these events for all of the admirers and dreamers. This year at Pismo in May was no different. Droves of people came out for the “open house” just to see what others had either found or fixed-up. Over the years of attending these rallies I’ve become acquainted with Scott Berud of Bakersfield, CA, (pictured below). Scott is frequently at these events with his latest find; restored to preserve its past and immaculately appointed with period décor. Scott’s trailers and style always appeal to me and inspire my own projects. Scott out-did himself this year. Combining a 1952 Boles Aero Montecito with a collection of mid-century collectible camping, hunting and fishing gear, he created “Arnie’s Sporting Goods”. The result is a rolling collection of memorabilia displayed in a retail store setting

Used to go camping from 1949 to 1951. This original Stand-Up “teardrop” was rolled in a garage, put on blocks and covered for 57 years. In 2008 Norman found an interesting trailer on Craigslist in Santa Maria, CA. After setting an appointment to look at the trailer, Norman told his wife he was on his way to get her a “new” trailer. It was a “new” trailer for Norman and Francoise but it was certainly not a “new” trailer. This trailer was a 1949 Stand Up teardrop. It was a home built trailer that had been used to go camping from 1949 to 1951. In 1951 the Stand Up was rolled in a garage, put on blocks and covered. It stayed in that exact location for 57 years. At 92 years old, the owner/builder was convinced that it was time to pass the little gem onto new owners. Norman happened to be the lucky one to be first in line for this original beauty. After purchasing the teardrop, making sure there was air in the tires and new grease in the bearings, Norman drove it back to his home in Sherman Oaks, CA on its original tires. (A 150 mile trip.) Norman later found out that those tires were made by the US Rubber Tire Co. in Norwalk, CT. That just happens to be where Norman was born. It was meant to be.

This original Stand Up teardrop is an amazing time capsule. It still sports its original curtains and canvas. It opens like a clam shell and allows the occupants to stand while inside. It opens up to 6’8” tall, 6’4” wide and just 9’9” long. Inside has sleeping for two, an ice box, cabinets, a folding table for four an original cook stove and lanterns, and electric heat. There is even room for a porta-potty.
Norman and Francoise enjoy taking their “new” trailer to several rallies a year, sharing its history and originality with others.
