HACIENDA LÓPEZ DE HARO EDICIÓN LIMITADA: LANDSCAPE, HISTORY AND TERROIR
A
new wine is launched from our Rioja winery: Hacienda López de Haro Limited Edition 2016, 89,930 bottles and 1700 numbered magnums which can be found on the menus of the best restaurants in Spain and beyond.
There are only 312 barrels from 18 hectares of vineyards located in San Vicente, a privileged area for growing grapes. Tempranillo, the star grape, is joined by a small percentage of Mazuelo (10%), giving it longevity and freshness. These old goblet-trained vineyards receive the best care, starting out with careful traditional short pruning, to favor low natural production and ending with the selection of the best bunches during the harvest, which is always manual. The choice of the 312 barrels to hold the wine is fundamental for its personality. The technical director of the winery, Raúl Acha and his team chose French oak (40%) and Hungarian oak (60%), including new and second-use barrels. The wood provides spicy and smoked notes, creating a pleasant, long, balanced and meaty wine, a 2016 vintage that the winery consider exceptional. What the Hacienda López de Haro Limited Edition intends to do is to create a wine just like the families in the area did in the 19th century and thus transfer the unique landscape, history and terroir to the bottle.
