HACIENDA LÓPEZ DE HARO EDICIÓN LIMITADA: LANDSCAPE, HISTORY AND TERROIR
A
new wine is launched from our Rioja winery: Hacienda López de Haro Limited Edition 2016, 89,930 bottles and 1700 numbered magnums which can be found on the menus of the best restaurants in Spain and beyond.
There are only 312 barrels from 18 hectares of vineyards located in San Vicente, a privileged area for growing grapes. Tempranillo, the star grape, is joined by a small percentage of Mazuelo (10%), giving it longevity and freshness. These old goblet-trained vineyards receive the best care, starting out with careful traditional short pruning, to favor low natural production and ending with the selection of the best bunches during the harvest, which is always manual. The choice of the 312 barrels to hold the wine is fundamental for its personality. The technical director of the winery, Raúl Acha and his team chose French oak (40%) and Hungarian oak (60%), including new and second-use barrels. The wood provides spicy and smoked notes, creating a pleasant, long, balanced and meaty wine, a 2016 vintage that the winery consider exceptional. What the Hacienda López de Haro Limited Edition intends to do is to create a wine just like the families in the area did in the 19th century and thus transfer the unique landscape, history and terroir to the bottle.

ust a few weeks ago the latest edition of Alimentaria, the main food and drinks trade show in Spain, came to an end. Once again, Vintae was the center of attention with an original and unconventional daringlystand. The Crew set up camp at the Fira de Barcelona, a wine growing campsite as a symbol of our adventurous spirit. For four days customers, friends, press and curious visitors were able to taste our wines under the most revolutionary canvas at the Fair. Likewise, a short time before, we also went to Prowein, the sector’s great fair in Europe, held in Dusseldorf in mid-March.

MASTERS OF WINE CHOOSE VINTAE
T
wo of the most prestigious British Masters of Wine, Sarah Jane Evans and Tim Atkin, have chosen three Vintae wines among their favorites. In his annual Rioja report, Atkin awarded 90 points to Hacienda López de Haro Blanco 2016. In addition, in the March issue of Decanter, Sarah Jane Evans MW chose two Vintae wines. The Garnacha Salvaje from Moncayo features among her selection of the 30 best Spanish wines for less than six pounds and Bardos Romántica Crianza 2013 is included in her dozen essentials from the DO Ribera del Duero.

he awards given by the Association of Cinematographic Informers of Spain were accompanied yet again this year by the Rioja wines of Hacienda López de Haro. Since the second edition of these cinematographic awards, Bodega Classica of San Vicente de la Sonsierra has been chosen by the Association of Film Informers to toast its most special evening. This year at the sassiest and most roughish gala of Spanish cinema, Hacienda López de Haro Blanco 2016 and Hacienda López de Haro Crianza 2015 triumphed on the red carpet.

odega Hacienda López de Haro continues to innovate with its wine tourism offers aiming to propose plans to experience wine from different perspectives. So children can also enjoy their own experience, the winery has devised the activity “The wine detectives” aimed exclusively at children and that takes place alongside the visit. The children become detectives and have to solve the “Mission Porrón”. While the little ones are entertained with their particular “mission”, adults can relax and enjoy the route, where they are offered the possibility to taste the wine in its different phases of evolution (from vats, barrels and when bottled). For those who want to try out an even more extraordinary experience it’s possible to enjoy a Rioja-style lunch with lamb cutlets cooked over vine shoots, what López de Haro has called the Rioja Tasting Visit.
