SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

The pursuit of breeding elite equine athletes lies at the heart of everything we do at Vinery. It is a shared ambition that unites every member of our team and serves as the foundation upon which our operation has been built. From the breeding barn to the sales ring and ultimately the racetrack, we are driven by a commitment to excellence at every stage of the journey.

As we reflect on the past 12 months, we do so with immense pride and gratitude. It has been a year marked by outstanding achievements, memorable milestones and the continued success of the horses, breeders and owners who place their trust in us. Whether celebrating impressive sale-ring results, major racetrack victories or significant breeding accomplishments, each success represents the dedication, expertise and passion of the people behind the scenes.

Here are some of the moments that made us pause and appreciate what has been another remarkable year for Vinery.

Vinery graduates enjoyed a standout season on the track, headlined by three new Group 1 winners in Sepals, Lara Antipova and Queensland Oaks heroine, Fireball Miss. All three horses proudly carry the Vinery brand on their shoulder, and they join a long list of elite winners that have been born and raised on the farm. Since Vinery’s inception in 2000, our paddocks have produced on average two Group 1 winners every season, which is testament to our hardworking staff, our systems and the quality of stock they produce.

Other Vinery graduates to achieve notable success this year include half-siblings Clear, who delivered back-to-back Stakes victories over two weekends. They hail from a family deeply

woven into the fabric of the farm – their dam Cristal Eyes being by All Too Hard, out of a More Than Ready mare, and Cristal Clear a son of emerging young sire Exceedance

Talented gelding Legacy Bound continued to fly the flag in Vinery’s silks, winning the Listed Poseidon Stakes and recording a Group 1 placing in the prestigious Coolmore Stud Stakes as a spring three-year-old.

This year also marked the start of an exciting new chapter for the farm, with Vinery and Kia Ora Stud uniting their stallion operations. The announcement saw Farnan and Captivant relocate to stand alongside reigning Champion First Season Sire,

Ole Kirk, and new recruit Tropicus – a brilliant winner of the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate.

As we prepare for the upcoming breeding season and to welcome the next generation of Vinery stars, we would like to extend our gratitude and thanks to our clients, partners and the wider industry for the ongoing support and wish everyone the best of luck for the 2026 breeding season.

Vinery raised and sold Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes winner, SEPALS

2026 SALES

The sales season commenced with the annual pilgrimage to the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale in January. Vinery achieved an outstanding 100% clearance rate and averaged $258,000, grossing just under $6.5 million for 25 yearlings sold. The draft was topped by the Snitzel colt out of multiple Group 1 winner Loving Gaby, who was knocked down to New Zealand’s David Ellis for $800,000. Off the back of his exceptional first crop of 2YO’s, Ole Kirk’s progeny was in hot demand, averaging $290,000 across the two majors and grossing more than any other third crop sire.

Vinery achieved a 90% clearance rate at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale. Highlights include the filly by Champion Sire of Group 1 winner

$320,000 and $210,000 for the Kirk colt out of Choisir mare Dangerous Liaison

The Inglis Easter Yearling Sale delivered further success with the halfsister to Everest hero Classique Legend and Hong Kong star

Aethero (I Am Invincible out of Pinocchio) selling for $650,000 to the bid of Ridgmont Fillies Partnership and Clarke Bloodstock. Once again, Ole Kirk extremely popular with the buying bench, selling 12 yearlings, topped by $525,00 for the colt out of Stakes winner Moroccan Rose

The strong momentum continued into the breeding stock sales. Vinery sold three sixfigure lots at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale – well above the $76,000 sale average – while Trilogy Racing and Suman Hedge Bloodstock went to $170,000 to secure the Alabama Express colt out of Stakes winner Naantali from the Vinery draft at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale.

We were thrilled with how Hawaii Five Oh’s first crop of weanlings presented at the sales.

The son of Champion Sire I Am Invincible is stamping his stock with the same good looks and athleticism that he inherited, and his progeny sold up to five times his service fee.

Our broodmare consignment continues to go from strength to strength. We achieved 100% clearance at the Inglis Chairman’s Sale before journeying to the Gold Coast for the National Broodmare Sale, where 17 mares grossed an impressive $5,385,000 (almost four times our gross in 2024), placing Vinery in the top five vendors. Standout results include $800,000 for the Stakes-winning race filly Miss Celine, $800,000 for Group 3 winner in foal on her first cover to Ole Kirk, and $750,000 for Group 2 winner and Group 1-placed Quantum Mechanic, also carrying a positive pregnancy to Ole Kirk.

Our expansion into the breeding stock market has been driven by the desire to offer our valued clients the best service possible, to foster new relationships in the industry and strengthen the support for our stallions. The results above illustrate the hard work and meticulous planning that has gone into assembling these drafts and we are delighted to have achieved such pleasing results for everyone involved.

We have also been active on the other side of the buying bench, investing in several top quality mares to support our growing stallion roster. Recent additions to the broodmare band include Rapt (More Than Ready out of Ghenwaa), Miss Personality (Lonhro out of Oh My Mimi) and Canara (I Am Invincible out of Karavali).

A STRENGTHENED ROSTER

Our stallions continue to perform at the highest level, delivering breeders exceptional opportunities for return on investment. Across all three major yearling sales this year, the Vinery roster averaged well above their conceived service fees, further reinforcing the value and confidence that comes with breeding to a Vinery stallion.

A CHAMPION CROWNED

Reigning Champion First Season Sire Ole Kirk produced more first crop Stakes-winning 2YOs than any of the past 10 Champion First Season Sires, including Too Darn Hot, Extreme Choice, Zoustar, Pierro and I Am Invincible. He carried this momentum into the 2025-26 season, siring Group 1 MRC Thousand Guineas winner, Ole Dancer.

A JUVENILE SENSATION

One of three exciting new additions to the roster, Farnan is the most credentialled Champion 2YO colt in over a decade. A brilliant victor of the Group 1 Golden Slipper, he sired eight first crop Stakes horses and finished his freshman year as the Leading First Season Sire by Winners and with the highest number of Stakes performers.

MOMENTUM BUILDS

The only Group 1-winning son of Capitalist to stand at stud, Captivant produced talented 2YO Vantorix – winner of the Group 2 Spirit Of Boom Classic – from his first six runners in his debut crop. He is also one of only two sires in Australia to run top three in the Group 1 Champagne Stakes and Group 1 Caulfield Guineas over the last 10 years – the other being Champion Freshman and barn mate, Ole Kirk.

A HOT NEW ADDITION

Tropicus is one of the most exciting Australian bred colts to retire to stud in 2026. The fastest and highest rated sprinting son of Champion Sire

Too Darn Hot, he was a brilliant victor of the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate and is in elite company alongside past winners Snitzel, Fastnet Rock and Starspangledbanner.

THE MASTER OF VERSATILITY

A leading sire of multiple Group 1 winners, All Too Hard enjoyed a breakout season with his 2YOs, headlined by Music Time – winner of the Group 3 Black Opal Stakes and ran a gallant third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper.

Renowned for producing tough racehorses, his popularity in the sale ring surged in 2026, with his yearlings averaging nearly five times his service fee at the major sales.

AN EMERGING FORCE

Exceedance continues to stamp himself as an emerging talent, producing three Group winners this season, with Too Darn Hot being the only third season sire to produce more. He is striking at a remarkable 7.5% Stakes horses to runners and sired his first Hong Kong winner in April this year.

MAKING WAVES

Off the back of his exceptional first crop of foals, Hawaii Five Oh continues to prove popular among breeders, with many increasing their support of him in his second season. His first weanlings sold up to $90,000 and with yearlings to come from the likes of Group 1 winners Allez Wonder and Mrs Onassis, we are looking forward to seeing this beautifully bred son of I Am Invincible light up the ring next year.

THE PROVEN PERFORMER

With average progeny earnings of $120,000 per runner and a 70% winners-to-runners strike rate, Star Turn is one of the best value stallions standing in Australia. His 2026 yearlings sold up to $300,000 and averaged $170,000 across the four majors, providing breeders with a remarkable return on their investment. His fillies and mares also made their mark at recent Magic Millions National Broodmare Sales. Group 1 winner Startantes sold for $1.4 million, multiple Stakes winner Alsephina made $1.1 million, and Stakes winner Saltaire fetched $725,000.

CONSISTENTLY DELIVERING

Headwater remains the ultimate breed-to-race option. He sired over 100 individual winners last season and is closing in on that milestone again in 2025-26. He has produced Stakes winners in every state and is the sire of five million-dollar earners including Jamaea, Wisdom Of Water and Strait Acer.

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT

In an industry that often celebrates success on the racetrack, it is important to recognise the people whose dedication and expertise help make those achievements possible. This year, Vinery Stud Manager Dave White received the prestigious Murray Bain Service to Industry Award at the Hunter Thoroughbred Breeders Association Annual Awards in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the breeding sector.

For 18 years, Dave has been an integral part of the Vinery team, bringing unwavering commitment, exceptional horsemanship and strong leadership to every aspect of the operation. His influence can be seen throughout the farm and across the wider industry, making this recognition both fitting and richly deserved.
