End of aan Era

It’s the end of an era. As you all know, after nearly 40 years at Torrance Memorial Medical Center and twelve years at its helm, Craig Leach is enjoying a well-earned retirement and the reins have been passed to the capable hands of Keith Hobbs. While many medical centers have armed camps – the medical staff versus the administration – TMMC has remained a unified, smoothrunning family, which I believe has largely been due to Craig’s remarkable leadership. He’s been the GOAT of CEO’s, leading with integrity, compassion and vision. Mark Lurie, MD

Through this changing of the guard, one thing has remained constant – the unceasing support of our community. Dating back to the 2022 Holiday Festival, we started on a three-year capital campaign to expand and revamp our Emergency Department. Our ED is one of the busiest in LA County, serving even more patients than Cedars-Sinai. The new ED will not only double the patient capacity but will be revitalized with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment and private rooms. There has been an incredible donor response from all of you to this initiative. We are all grateful for your generosity and excited about the completion of this vital project. As expected, Laura, Judy and the Foundation staff have done a fantastic job over the year with initiating and nurturing this fund-raising campaign. We continue to appreciate how critical you all are in maintaining and enhancing our award-winning Medical Center. I sincerely thank you and wish you and your family a very happy holiday.

We Thank You I cannot believe this is my 23rd Holiday Festival… my family looks forward to this fun and entertaining week-long tradition as much as I do. We cherish the many memories from each, and every year. We are blessed with our talented, hardworking, dedicated volunteers who return annually to support this event. Thank you for 40 years!!

Holiday Festival returns for its 40th year to raise money for Torrance Memorial Medical Center in support of the hospital’s patients and programs, and to raise the tent for our beloved community holiday event. When I began volunteering for Festival of Trees in 1983, one thing stood out to me - the joy on people’s faces. The comfort and joy of twinkling lights, seasonal greenery and beautiful music are what make it the enchanting event that has become a tradition for families of all ages. One particular family really touched me… Their kids had never seen anything like this, their faces just lit up and it was so magical. That experience has kept me coming back to the festival for 39 more years, serving as a Volunteer, Design Chair and Festival Chair.

Since the beginning, Holiday Festival has always been a community event, so I would like to extend a special THANK YOU to everyone who makes it happen. From the people who attend, to the hundreds of volunteers, to the sponsors and major donors whose generosity and support enable us to continue this special tradition and event. The tent magically transforms a plain parking lot into a Seasonal Wonderland filled with: Beautiful Trees, Santa attending his sleigh, Holiday Boutique shopping, Kids Zone, Food Court and Bakery. Then add the elements of song and dance by our community entertainers, and participation in our Saturday Toy Drive with the Torrance Police and Fire Department, continues to prove that… Bev George
