One of the rare advantages of being 80 (yes, I know, I can’t believe it myself) is that I drag a lot of history with me. All these years have given me a panoramic perspective on many things in my life. For example, I’ve seen first hand the evolution of Torrance Memorial from a good medical center to a great one, from a superior deliverer of medical care to one that is in the forefront of health services. I’m very proud to have been there during at least part of this remarkable advancement.
The Medical Center owes a lot of its progress to its administrative, medical and Foundation staff, of course; but, in truth, it had been carried on the shoulders of this community, which has done so much to support and embrace it. We are indebted to all the people here tonight who have championed, promoted and sustained this medical center to help shape it into the success it is today. As a cardiologist, I can safely say you are the heart of this organization. A sincere thanks to all of you.
I wish you a happy and very healthy New Year.
Gratefully,
Mark Lurie MD Foundation President
Laura Schenasi
I cannot believe this is my 24th Holiday Festival… my family looks forward to this fun and entertaining week-long tradition as much as I do. We cherish the many memories from each, and every year.
We are blessed with our talented, hardworking, dedicated volunteers who return annually to support this event. Thank you to Carolyn Snyder, who has guided us through Holiday Festival for 40 years, and to Linda Roehm and Michelle Rand, who also enthusiastically lead our troops of volunteers.
We have raised millions of dollars to support the vital work of Torrance Memorial… without your health you cannot live life to its fullest.
I am grateful to work with my wonderful colleagues in the Foundation office – Judy, Sophia, Lisa, Karen, Jill and Kristin. In addition, I want to thank our outstanding physicians, nurses and staff who do their best, with a smile every day, to care for our patients and families.
I send my best wishes to you and your loved ones during this holiday season…
With sincere appreciation,
Laura Schenasi Executive Vice President Torrance Memorial Foundation
Thank you for 40 years!!
This past year has brought some changes in my health and I will no longer be Co-Chairing at the Holiday Festival.
When I began volunteering at the Festival of Trees in 1983, one thing stood out to me. The joy on people’s faces when they would come into the tent to see the beauty of all the trees. The excitement of twinkling lights, seasonal greenery and beautiful music, an enchanting event that has become a tradition for families of all ages.
That experience has kept me coming back to the festival for 39 more years, serving as a volunteer, Design Chair and Festival Chair.
It’s been magical from the beginning and it’s been a very special thing.
Since its beginning, the Holiday Tree Festival has always been a community event. As I step down as Co-Chair on my 40th year and turn this event over to Mary Cilva and her team, please give them all the support you have given me over the years.
A special THANK YOU to everyone who makes this Holiday Festival happen, from the hundreds of volunteers, and especially to our major donors and sponsors whose generosity and support enable us to continue this special tradition and event. THANK YOU to the Torrance Memorial Medical Center Foundation Staff – we appreciate your personal efforts and acknowledge that this event is much more than a job to you. Thank you for all your extra support during the year and always being there to help. A SPECIAL THANK YOU – to the many people who respond to help with this event with their time, treasures and talent. Thank you to our entertainers for bringing us entertainment during the festival. And to the volunteers who work from January to November shopping and creating all the beautiful items sold in the boutique and designs for the trees.
WORDS CANNOT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I WILL MISS YOU ALL AND HOW MUCH I HAVE ENJOYED BEING A PART OF THIS WONDERFUL GROUP.
Linda Roehm
As the tent appears behind TMMC, the Magic of the 41st Annual Holiday Festival comes to life. It’s an honor and privilege to be part of this Holiday Festival tradition . . . BY a community of volunteers (working all year long), FOR the South Bay community of all ages to enjoy, BENEFITING the entire community, now and in the future… “Holiday Festival is Truly a Community Affair !”
Thank you – to our community of Volunteers! Thank you to our Helping Hands (lovingly guided by Mary Richardson) who faithfully work all year, creating holiday treasures, wiring ornaments, stuffing envelopes, and pricing thousands of items. Thank you to our Unique Boutique team, for adding a fun place for our seniors and others to shop for “special treasures”. .We are proud of our Boutique areas both overflowing with Christmas joy and spirit. You’ve all have become family and are greatly appreciated! Thank you to our fantastic tree designers and decorators, who magically transform 7’ trees into a beautiful Winter Wonderland Forest for all to enjoy. Thank you to Head Elf, Michelle Rand (Las Amigas President) for heading up our 12’ Heroes Tree, the heart of our hospital lobby.Thank you to the Luminaries and Novas for hosting our Kids Zone, filled with activities for our younger guests, and always being willing to help in any area of need. Yes, Volunteers are the heart of our Festival!
Thank you – to our Sponsors!
We appreciate and acknowledge your generosity. Your support empowers us to continue this community tradition and fundraising event for TMMC.
Thank you – to our community of Entertainers. It is with great pride that we showcase our local talent! Throughout the Festival week - singers, dancers and musicians fill the tent with the true spirit of the season.
Thank you – to our (behind the scenes) Spirit Leaders!
Our Festival Lead Volunteers, for your commitment, and positive attitudes! To our wonderful Foundation Staff, we greatly appreciate your dedication to detail, gentle guidance, and constant support!

Subyn personifies an organization’s mission by effortlessly creating an environment of generosity. Her zest for philanthropic giving combined with her ease on stage and talent for grabbing the attention of the room has made Subyn a highly successful auctioneer who has raised more than $50 million for charity.
Balancing many roles – entrepreneur, actress, model and realtor – Subyn considers benefit fundraiser “auctiontainer” to be her favorite. She says auctioneering encompasses all her passions of philanthropy: being an advocate and spokesperson, raising money to make a difference, and of course, boldly capturing the attention of an audience to share the message of the organization. Subyn is delighted to help support the Torrance Memorial Emergency Department Campaign.
