INTRODUCTION My name is Roos van Roessel, student at the faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Delft. This portfolio includes three of my most recent projects. All three projects are made individual Skills Programs as SketchUp, Revit and Rhino belong to my capability. I still prefer drawing in the early fase of designing. I am also quite familiar with the programs Photoshop and InDesign.

HOUSE AND ANCHORING SUMMERHOUSE | LEIDSCHENDAM

During this project I designed a little summerhouse with a garden. The house is located in ‘Zuid-Holland‘. The house had to be anchored with the landscape in which it stands. My design is inspired by ‘Museum Belvérère’ from Thom Mercuur and ‘Farnsworth House’ from Mies van der Rohe. The garden of my design is inspired by ‘Moerastuin’ from Mien Ruys.

My intension was to show the geometry and consistency of the landscape. My design also contains a pattern of lines just like the landscape.The house is actually one big closet. All provisions like a bed, a toilet and a shower are hidden in this closet.

ESCHER MUSEUM A NEW ENTRY | DEN HAAG

In this project I made a new entry for the Escher museum in Den Haag. The new entry includes a sunken sculpture garden with a restaurant and a gallery. The entry is on the ground floor. The garden is on a lower level than the square, this way the square remains intact. Escher’s work was my inspiration for this design. The main theme is optical illusion. On the route to the museum there a lot of arches. These arches are each slightly rotated. When you walk through these arches you get the idea that you’re not walking straight. The route ends with an ‘Ames room’. An ‘Ames room’ is a distorted room that is used to create an optical illusion. You wouldn’t believe it, but both persons in the last image of this page have the same length!

Metamorphose The roof of the entry is inspired by this piece of art from Escher. The red triangle shows the part wich I have used in my design.

DESIGN AND ENGINEERING ROWING CLUB ‘DE OMVAL’ | AMSTERDAM

The assignment of this project was to design a building for a rowing club located by the river called â€˜De Amstelâ€™ in Amsterdam. The focus in this project is passive sustainability. Both rowing activities and social activities are facilitated in the building.

The two stacked boxes together are the core of this concept. The box on the ground floor is closed. This floor is used to store boats, so there is not much light required. The box on the first floor is almost completely open. The facade consists of HR++ glass en U-glass. U-glass is not transparent, but light can still pass through. The first floor is used for social activities. The top box is turned so, that visitors have a view on the three waterways. The top floor also has a terrace where visitors can have a nice view on the river.

The top image shows the rainwater system. The water is stored in a tank underground and it is used for flushing the toilets. The images below show the ventilation system respectively in the summer and in the winter.
