MUSAN: FIBER FACILITY COMPLEX I 2024
Musan is a proposed fiber facility complex situated at the center of Barangay Sibulan , Toril in Davao City. At the heart of one prominent location for abaca farms, the complex will house numerous abaca, coconut, and banana farms that are in close proximity within a 2 - kilometer radius, along with its own production field. The objective of the fiber facility complex is to address the challenges confronting the plant fiber industry, particularly the issues of extremely low crop production volumes, limited access to agricultural advisory services, insufficient modern equipment and facilities, and the absence of a robust marketing structure. By offering appropriate spaces and sufficient facilities , Musan is dedicated to revitalizing the plant fiber industry in the city. The complex will be equipped with a production and processing facility, a manufacturing facility, a center for research and development, and a center for ecotourism education, addressing the limited common service facilities for processing products and strengthening the abaca industry in the city.
The facility complex will be divided into 4 zones that are inter-connected and interrelated with the function, purpose, and flow. The production facility will take in Zone 1, containing the storage areas, fiber extraction department, and other spaces needed for extracting raw fibers. The manufacturing facility will comprise Zone 2, where the application of the raw fiber material will be processed. Zone 3 will house the finished product warehouse along with the commercial zone, eco-educational center and trading center. Lastly, the administration area and research center will comprise Zone 4.
Arninistrative building within a plantation serves as a central hub for managing various operations and activities related to the plantation. The building houses various functional spaces, including offices, meeting rooms, reception area.s , and storage rooms. Office spaces are designed to accommodate administrative staff, managers, and other personnel. Also, commercial stalls that cater to any businesses such as cafes and restaurants are provided.
LONGITUDINAL SECTION

In giving solution to the dilemma in the abaca industry, providing spaces is the key.

ACOUSTICS PLATE 11 REIMAGINING A CULTURAL CENTER IN UP MINDANAO
Filipino vernacular architecture is an important aspect of Philippine culture and identity, and efforts are being made to preserve and promote this heritage. Regalado Hall is a one story Neo Vernacular structure incorporated with elements of vernacular architecture in order to create spaces that are more sustainable, culturally relevant, and contextually appropriate. In contemporary Mindanao architecture, there is a preference for clean lines, minimalist aesthetics, and functional design , incorporating modern materials like steel, glass, and concrete to create sleek and visually appealing structures. Prominent contemporary designs, such as the "Regalado," prioritize open spaces, natural light, and seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor areas Incorporating these key aspects into the expansion of the existing structures and additional facilities, notably the auditorium, will enhance the overall architectural appeal.
SITE LOCATION: CURRENT CULTURAL CENTER OF UP MINDANAO
SITE ANALYSIS
The site showcase the existing CHSS Cultural Center building that was part of the proposed UP Mindanao 2020-2023 Campus Master Development Plan. However, the current state of the cultural center was not fully constructed as there was a complication with the site. With this, we are tasked to reimagine and revamp the cultural center that is equipped with a one of a kind auditorium as the main attribute.
The cultural center boasts a 426-seater auditorium equipped with amenities suitable for hosting musicals, dramas, concerts, film showings, lectures, and other performances. The facility also provides rehearsal rooms, dressing rooms, and storage for costumes and props, as well as a green room to cater to performers' needs. Additionally, the building serves as a space to commemorate history, with galleries for exhibits, souvenir shops, classrooms, and conference rooms available.
With the vision of the project, a number of spaces were added to contribute to the supposed purpose of the building. The major addition to the building is the auditorium. This will be located in the heart of the building. Having the auditorium at the center of the building provides an opportunity to provide a grand lobby at the entrance of cultural center. Other additional spaces will then be surrounding the auditorium, which is space-efficient since other spaces such as the dance halls, dressing areas, will have enough acoustical and visual privacy it needs.

The wall - mounted acoustic diffuser made of hardwood slats works on the same princples as a cavity absorber. When sound waves enter the gap space, a portion of them are ab s orbed by the material behind the slats. The reduced sound energy is subsequently reflected around the space several times, further reducing the sound energy. In terms of the varying intensity of the sound along the auditorium, Compared to other places in the room, audience members seated in the front row hear the sound source more directly.
