Ralph Junior sat in the RV, wearing his favorite Cubs hat, excitedly talking with his dad about the Cubs’ chances of finally making it to the World Series. Ralph Senior smiled as they watched a game together.

The TV showed the final score, another close loss for the Cubs.

Ralph Junior’s smile faded. “It’s okay,” Ralph Senior said, “There’s always next season.”

As time passed, Ralph Junior got older. One year, he was a boy watching a game in the RV; the next, a teenager playing baseball with friends, always wearing his Cubs hat. The years seemed to fly by.

Even though the Cubs weren’t winning, Ralph Senior and Junior still watched the games together, season after season.

Their love for the team never wavered, even though the dream of a World Series win seemed far away.

Now a teenager, Ralph Junior sat with his dad, talking about more than just baseball.

“The Cubs will get there one day, Dad,” Junior said, a little older and wiser now. “But I’ve learned it’s not just about winning.”

Ralph Senior smiled, proud of how his son had grown.

“You’re right,” he said. “It’s about the journey. And just like the Cubs, we’ll keep going no matter how long it takes.”

Even though Ralph Junior had grown up, he still played baseball with his friends, wearing that same Cubs hat.

His dream of seeing the Cubs win the World Series was still there, but it had changed, just like he had.

Ralph Junior helped his dad work on the RV, the same one they had been traveling in for years. They laughed and talked, enjoying each other’s company.

“The RV might be getting old,” Ralph Senior said, “but our dream is still alive.”

Now a young adult, Ralph Junior sat with his dad, talking about his future.

“I still want to see the Cubs win, Dad,” he said, “but I’ve learned that dreams change over time. And that’s okay.”

Ralph Senior and Junior were at a Cubs game together, just like they had been so many times before.

The game might not have been for the World Series, but they still cheered on their team, their dream still alive.

As the sun set over the RV, Ralph Senior and Junior sat together, knowing that no matter how long it took, they would always have their dream—and each other.
