Sinceallthechildrenhad knownPebbles for manyyears,theteacherallowedthe Brite StarKidstoplaywithhimuntilclass began.

Pebbleshad been apartof Missy’sfamilyeven before Missywasborn. He wasaspecialdog.

One time,afriend of Missy’senteredPebblesin theCommunityCenterPetFair.Pebbleswonthe awardfortheCutest Puppy!

Another year, Pebbles won the award for being the Best Trained Dog. Missy taught himtodo manytricks.

AtthemostrecentPetFairPebbleswonfor being theBestLookingOlder Dog. Missywas very happy for her pet.

When Missywasborn, Pebblesquickly becameher protector.When baby Missy cried,Pebblesgot her mother.Hewas alwayscloseby Missy.He eventooknaps nexttoMissy’sbed.

FromthemomentMissywasold enough to play,Pebbleswasher favoriteplaymate.

Missy’sfriends happily letPebblesjoin in whatevertheywere playing.

PebblesquicklybecameMissy’sbest friend.Theywentfor walkstogether.

Theyplayed together.Pebblesstillslept nexttoMissy’sbed. Sometimeshe even snuggledin bed nexttoher.

Pebbleswasalwaysabusylittledog who lovedtorun andjumpandplay.Butas Pebblesgot older,he begantoslowdown.

He didn’t havetheenergytorun andplay.

Hislegshurtso he didn’t jump anymore.

NowPebblesjuststayedin hisbed mostof thetime.He tooklotsof naps.He stilllooked happy whenMissycametoseehim.Histail waggedhappily whenhe sawher.But,he didn’t getup to play.

Thenone day,Pebblesdidn’t wanttoeat anything.He stayedin bed allthatday. He didn’t even lifthisheadwhenMissy camein.

Thatnight Pebbleswenttodoggy heaven.

Missy’sfamilyburied Pebblesin theirback yard.Missyand her friends satby Pebbles grave.Theytalkedabout howmuchfun Pebbles was.

EveryonemissedPebbles,butMissy missedhimmostof all.

After Pebbles died, the Brite StarKids didn’t see Missy for awhile. In fact,the nexttimethey sawher wasatthe Brite StarPet Fair.

Missy was there telling people that she had learned about dogs and other animals who needed help because they were sick, old or homeless.No one caredabout them.

TherewasaplacecalledBarnBuddies that rescuedsomeof theseanimals.BarnBuddies waspartof theBriteStarRanchfor Animals,a huge ranchwhereallkindsof animalslived. The animalsweretreatedwithlove and kindnessas theygrew old.

MissywasthankfulthatPebbles had alwayshad ahomeand thathewasloved. Butshefeltbad for theanimalsthatdidn’t have homes.

To honor Pebbles, Missy and her father began raising money for the Brite Star Ranch and the Barn Buddies.

The Brite Star Kidslearned a valuable lesson from Missy. Brite Star Kids are always kind to other people, but they learned that Brite Star Kidscanalsobe kind and helpful toanimals.
