LES JOURNÉES DE LA CULTURE

CORN FESTIVAL Saturday, September 8, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Free admission (products for sale on site) $ A shuttle service will be available which links the two sites during the day, provided at a low cost. Maison LePailleur and Kahnawake

© Cindy Doucet

The Maison LePailleur is proud to offer this day of festivities where our collective heritage is in the spotlight, as much for our origins as for our cultural diversity. An open window to the roots of our traditions in the different cultural communities of our nation, this family activity aims to maintain harmonious and lasting relationships between communities with different traditions, but with common values. A celebration with songs, dance, and traditional food, as well as craft demonstrations, the second edition of this festival is a new opportunity to take part in a committed gathering which celebrates pride, belonging and sharing!

2nd edition under the Agora!

SALON DES ARTISANS (ARTISANS’ FAIR) Presented by Déco Patia Sunday, September 16 & 30 and October 14, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Agora

Châteauguay... What a story! 3rd edition Saturday, September 29, 1 to 2:30 p.m. Free Espace Gravel (adjacent to Maison LePailleur)

VERNISSAGE OF THE PHOTO CONTEST PARTICIPANTS AND ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE WINNERS! On the historic site of the old Maison Gravel converted into a public space, Ville de Châteauguay, in co-operation with Maison LePailleur, presents from September 29 to November 30, a selection of the most beautiful photographs received as part of the photographic contest, “Châteauguay… What a Story!” This contest offers amateur and professional Châteauguay photographers the opportunity to share their vision of the city through the camera lens. Participants could draw on three themes: Witnesses of Times Past, Locals and Reflection.

Under the same roof, you will find a wide variety of handcrafted items and unique works of art as well as many handmade products by more than 40 artisans. Special attention is paid to the quality, diversity and originality of the products. A food truck will also be on site.

Participate in the co-operative sculpture project! At the Salon des Artisans on September 16, take part in a painting on river stones workshop. All the stones will then be incorporated into a sculpture that will be installed at Joseph-Laberge Park near the new chalet. The sculpture will consist of four “levels” of painted stones, symbolizing each generation of the Châteauguay population. – At the bottom, the stones of the elders will symbolize the foundation of the concepts of our current culture. – Middle-aged people from various jobs, representing the working class that supports the economic base of our society. – The current generation formed by children, adolescents and parents as well as by recent arrivals. This population is the heart of a developing society. – Future generations represented by small stones painted by toddlers. Let the creativity go!

Workshop-show: The origins of djembe The djembe is a percussion instrument with unlimited possibilities. Its astonishing simplicity conceals rhythmic subtleties with multi-layered tonal qualities. During this mini-workshop, participants will have the chance to learn the basics of djembe. They will also learn a traditional rhythm of West Africa.
