Mental Health Week begins

Lithgow Community Transport supports independence through transport. We are a not for profit organisation that is mainly staffed by volunteers. We service an area from Orange to Sydney on a daily basis. Transport is often the first type of service that is needed to maintain independence and we are here to help. Presently, we are growing quickly, so we have some vacancies for volunteers. We offer well maintained vehicles for you to drive as well as generous reimbursement for your out of pocket expenses. For your transport questions please call Kathy at Lithgow Community Transport on 6352 2146 or call in and see us at 1/31 Railway Pde, Lithgow.

With Mental Health Month kicking off on the 1st of October, there will be a couple of events to bring awareness to the issues faced by sufferers of depression. The theme for this year’s campaign is “Be YOUnique”. Lithgow TAFE students are conducting a partnership with After Care Lithgow to raise awareness regarding Mental Health in our local community. First is a free BBQ being held at Cook Street Plaza on Wednesday 8th October from 11am to 2pm with entertainment, resources and information available on the day. The event is sponsored by Country Table Meats, Butcher on Main and Lithgow Free Range Meats. Support also comes from Portland Central School, Lithgow High and La Salle when on Wednesday 15th October, the students will be participating in a Mufti day with the hopes that they will discuss mental health issues and hopefully this will help

to reduce the stigma associated with the disease. To further raise awareness, the students will be painting canvas’s to reflect how they see themselves and their school as being unique. These canvas’s will then be displayed at Lithgow Library between the 10th and 17th of October and you are encouraged to stop by and check them out. Further to this, a guest speaker and the TAFE students will be at the Library on Wednesday 15th October at 1pm to discuss issues surrounding mental health. There will be an afternoon and all are welcome to attend. Other sponsors for the month are Lithgow Woolworths, Lithgow Coles, Lithgow Aldi and Lithgow Reject Shop as well as After Care Lithgow.
