Students from Portland Central School were joined by Cullen Bullen students last Friday as inter-school Kindness Project.

Leanne Walding from LINC has worked with students for two terms to develop personal resiliance and create projects to provide kindness to others.

Students from both schools began with a ‘Circle of Friendship’ and then went on to enjoy a day of games, sport, activities and challenges, culminating in a wonderful fundraising lunch with all proceeds donated to cancer support group ‘Can Assist’. Woolworths kindly supplied food for the lunch for free to help maximise proceeds raised.

We respond to two Letters to the Editor printed in the Village Voice on the 20th September 2019.

Councilor Stephen Lesslie and his partner Susan Gregory submitted the letters Susan Gregory has criticized us for supporting the recent press release from Minister Matt Kean of the NSW State Government on coal and coal-fired power Let us quote from the important part of that press release as it relates to our community: “Mr. Kean said coal was critical to the state’s energy future and that NSW currently faced huge challenges with the supply of coal to coal fired power stations” Pointing specifically to Mount Piper in the Lithgow region, Mr. Kean said “I won’t rule out legislation to secure their coal” end of quote.

We are elected to represent our community and it’s people and to not support this position irrespective of which government, group or political party put it forward would be a dereliction of our duty.

We have further sought a meeting with Minister Kean to specifically discuss his comments in relation to Mount Piper Power Station and our associated Lithgow coalmines.

Yes, mines and power stations are owned by private companies who do make decisions to open or close but those decisions are also driven by government legislation and planning and environmental decisions, just look at the recent proposed Bylong mine decision and the uncertainty and worry that our own Springvale miners and their families went through back in 2015. Springvale mine production was shut down for 8 weeks and there was a real prospect that the mine may not have been allowed to continue.

We have also been strong advocates for jobs in our area not related to mining and power generation and will continue to do, so but we will certainly not walk away from our existing and future mine and power workers It is easy for Susan Gregory and those not affected to talk about transition but quite a different challenge and concern for those miners and power workers directly in the firing line.

Talk is cheap; achieving good alternate employment outcomes for unemployed power workers and coalminers is another thing altogether, just look at the unemployment levels and transition outcomes in the La Trobe Valley in Victoria.

As for Councilor Stephen Lesslie, his comments are predictable, he often disassociates himself from council decisions and media releases especially if they don’t suit his personal view on life.

His anti coal mining stance, dislike of coal miners and their union is well known and led to a letter of complaint against him from the Springvale coalmine workforce.

He harks on about climate change but we would rather listen to the comments from Australia’s chief scientist who acknowledges climate change but also states emphatically that the move to renewables will take decades to achieve and can’t come at the expense of Australia’s economy, or industry.

Climate change is a complicated global issue yet it is small regional coalmining communities like ours that are expected to pay the heaviest price.

I wanted to publicly state that I support both Susan Gregory and Clr Stephen Lesslie letters to the editor 20/9/19, in response to Mayor and D. Mayor article.

Finally we have the voice of what many people really want to hear, transition, it is time we all stepped up and spoke out of what we really want for Lithgow.

Yes, we have coal now, it would be economically insane to stop, whilst there is end dates predicted, predictions can change swiftly, but we can have a sustainable economic plan ready with diversification. It is time! Destination Pagoda is just one stream for diversification.

I personally thank, support and stand with Susan Gregory and Clr Lesslie with their vision and forward thinking to move on and plan for Lithgow into the future.

I urge others to do the same.

EMPOWERING WOMEN

It’s not often you get a chance to spend time with someone of Ita Buttrose’s calibre as a business owner.

Being able to spend just a few minutes with her on Tuesday at BizMonth in Bathurst was an opportunity I was not going to pass up.

As most of you know, my husband and I run this business together. We have a small team of people that help us produce our publications here and in Bathurst each week, but as owners of the business, we feel the weight of the world is on our shoulders.

Being able to share our vision for what we are doing as a small independent publisher with someone who has had such an amazing career in this industry was an inspiration.

Ita agreed with what we are doing - writing stories that lift up the community, focussing on the good news and celebrating what is unique in our region, is what she sees as the future for regional media.

Thank you Ita for coming to the region and thank you to the organisers and sponsors of this week’s event. This was an opportunity for all the businesses in the room, but as female publisher working in a challenging industry this was an amazing opportunity for me.

I must also acknowledge the contributions of the great Diocesan priests and Sisters of St Joseph with whom I have worked over the years. I have truly been blessed.

It was a surprise to say the least! At Mass on Wednesday when Fr Garry asked everyone to be seated before the final hymn I could not imagine what this was about. If anything was to be announced I was usually informed of the reason.

My Kinder, First and Second class had celebrated their very first Mass for the year! It was all about Creation and in the Entrance Procession there were beautiful gifts, flowers, some soil, a piece of our favourite Fairy Tree and samples of our earth, our home.

The children were all outstanding in their roles during the liturgy, the readings were undertaken beautifully, the offering of the gifts was very respectfully carried out and the prayers were from the heart. To end this beautiful Mass with an acknowledgement of my 35 Years of Service to Catholic Education was a wonderful moment in time and I am very grateful that my staff followed this up after the Diocesan Showcase.

I have always felt that I am very privileged to be a part of Catholic Education but especially, to be a part of Catholic education at St Joseph’s School in the community of Portland. After full time teaching with the Department of Education at the beginning of my career in both Lithgow and Portland I began my work at St Joseph’s as a Casual Teacher in 1981.

This time was divided between the two schools, St Joseph’s and Portland Central School and I have always felt that this was a vital time in my teaching life.

I moved on to a Part Time position at St Joseph’s for four more years until I was offered and accepted a Full Time position here in 1986. I have worked with many students, some of whom have children in my school today. I have always been very proud of the achievements of all students from St Joseph’s as their special gifts and the lifelong relationships they have formed at this school are truly unique.

After working with three Principals at a school that I had grown to love deeply I thought that the role of Principal was one which I could consider. I applied and

STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES FOR LITHGOW YOUNGSTERS

More pre-schoolers in Lithgow will have access to state-of-the-art early childhood learning facilities and specialised educational programs, thanks to the NSW Government’s Quality Learning Environments program.

Bathurst MP Paul Toole today announced the following preschools and not-for-profit long day care centres in Lithgow will receive grants of up to $10,000.

Galloping Gumnut Mobile Children’s Services will use the funds to purchase a portable storage shed, while Gowrie plans to enhance their outdoor learning environment by adding more fixed play equipment.

“I am thrilled that the littlest learners in Lithgow will benefit from this funding now and for years to come,” Mr Toole.

“These grants can be used to make physical improvements to early childhood services, like new

LITHGOW CITY COUNCIL PARTNERS WITH FERRERO The Lithgow Visitor Information Centre will display and sell Ferrero’s locally produced Nutella and Tic Tac for the first time. These household favourites will be displayed with a “Proudly Made in Lithgow” message to showcase their home grown roots.

Nutella and Tic Tac have been manufactured

by Ferrero locally for the Australian, New Zealand and East Asian markets for over 40 years. Today Ferrero is a major employer in Lithgow, employing over 100 locals, making a strong contribution to the local, and state, economies through the Lithgow factory.

Ferrero has a strong community focus and is proud of the employment opportunities offered to locals.

Ferrero’s Institutional Affairs Manager, Derek Lath said “Ferrero is proud to be part of the Lithgow community. As a company always looking at ways to create and share value, by providing products to the Lithgow Visitor Information Centre we are committing to the ongoing support of the Tourism Industry in Lithgow”.

MAYFIELD GARDEN ANNOUNCES DATES FOR 2019 SPRING FESTIVAL Mayfield Garden has announced that it’s Spring Festival will take place this year from Sunday 6 October to Sunday 27 October.

History shows that Spring is one of the more spectacular and popular times to visit Mayfield Garden.

The Garden will be open during the Spring Festival from 9.00am to 5.30pm, with no entry after 4.00pm.

ANDREWGEE MP FEDERAL MEMBER FOR CALARE

Your Country Your Voice LITHGOW TO BENEFIT FROM $1MILLION FUNDING Lithgow City Council is benefitting from $1 million in grants it has received under the Australian Government’s Drought Communities Program.

The Program is designed to provide economic stimulus to regional councils which have been affected by the current drought.

Presently, 13 projects have been approved which include community infrastructure improvements, community facilities improvements, community events (focused on drought preparedness and resilience), public lands improvements, tourism & economic diversification, infrastructure & amenity upgrading and improvement.

Notably, $375,000 has been allocated to upgrading community halls across the shire, while $130,000 will be invested in implementing water conserving irrigation systems at local sporting fields.

Other projects to be funded under the program include: $50,000 weed control of African Lovegrass $45,000 noxious weed eradication programs $40,000 drought management education days for primary producers $30,000 Water harvesting at Portland Golf Club $25,000 Water access improvements at Capertee fire brigade shed I look forward to seeing these projects progress across the Lithgow Shire and I will keep you updated on when projects have been completed.

GET OUT AND HAVE YOUR SAY – JUST NOT IN SCHOOL HOURS Our young people are sometimes unjustly criticised for spending too much time on electronic devices and not enough time doing real stuff.

I’m pretty sure I can remember my father telling me that I had it easy because he had to walk barefoot through the snow, forge three rivers and take on a dozen crocodiles just to get to school (that did actually sound quite tough).

Perhaps it’s just the way of things that older generations get to complain about younger ones.

I think it’s great for young people to be involved and have opinions on the issues of the day.

I know that in my younger years, I certainly did.

The voices of the young should never be ignored or discounted.

Maybe I’m a bit old fashioned, but I also think that when school is on, that’s where kids should be. That’s why I didn’t attend last week’s climate event.

We know it is step with the community because this policy was taken to the last election and it received a strong endorsement both locally and nationally.

If kids want to protest about anything, I believe the best time to do it is after school, on weekends or in the school holidays (although getting out of school may be half the fun!).

I take no issue with parents who have a different point of view (that’s what our democracy is all about).

I’m also comfortable with the settings the Australian Government has on climate policy, which is a 26 to 28 per cent

So I’d encourage our young people to feel free to get out there and have their say – but best not do it in school time!

PORTLAND CENTRAL SCHOOL FAREWELLS ITS YEAR 12 CLASS Story & Pics by Kellie Evans Like many schools around the state this week, Portland Central School farewelled its 2019 Year 12 students on Thursday. It was a great ceremony with heartfelt speeches made by staff, special guests including Lithgow Mayor Ray Thompson as well as students.

The well wishes were flowing along with some tears and at the conclusion of the ceremony, all guests including students from Kindergarten to Year 11, created a long guard of honour that the 7 schoolleavers could walk through. This is a tradition Portland Central have adopted for many years now and it was a very touching way to conclude the assembly. Afterwards, the Year 12 students and their families and friends were treated to a delicious lunch put on by the Hospitality staff and students.

And while the graduation ceremony heralds the end of school days for the 7 outgoing kids, ahead of them now lies the big task of sitting for their HSC exams that begin in Term 4. We would like to wish them all good luck for the upcoming exams and all the very best for their next chapter, wherever that takes them.

QUOTA DONATE ECG UNIT AFTER CALL FOR HELP Lithgow Private Hospital recently had their Electrocardiograph (ECG) machine breakdown resulting in them having to borrow a unit from Lithgow Hospital every time it was needed.

An ECG is critical for patients about to go to surgery as it helps to identify cardiac abnormalities like cardiac

rhythm disturbances and inadequate coronary artery blood flow.

Registered Nurse Pam Bender put a call for help out to the Lithgow Quota Club for a new machine. Quota President Noela Williams said that the club was only to happy to assist by donating the machine valued at around $2,500.

“We are pleased to also have donated a number of machines to the Hospital in the past.” said Noela. Associate Professor John Dearin accepted the donation on behalf of the hospital and acknowledged the Quota Clubs assistance over the years. Pam Bender was thrilled with the new ECG machine saying it was the latest model with simple onscreen instructions on how to use it. Its also on a stand to safely move it around the hospital, taking it to the patient without having to move them.

CHANGES TO SLOW DOWN RULE

Motorists are reminded changes to the rule requiring them to slow down when passing stationary emergency vehicles come into force in NSW tomorrow (Thursday 26 September).

From 26 September: · Drivers will no longer need to slow down to 40km/h on roads with speed limits of 90km/h or over. · Drivers will continue to be required to slow down to 40km/h on roads with speed limits of 80km/h or under. · The rule will be expanded to include tow trucks and breakdown assistance vehicles which are displaying yellow flashing lights while stopped on the road.

On roads with speed limits of 90km/h or over drivers will need to: · Slow to a speed which is safe and reasonable for the circumstances. · Give sufficient space between their vehicle and the tow truck, breakdown assistance or emergency vehicle, as well as any people on the road. · On multi-lane roads drivers must change lanes to keep the lane next to the stationary vehicle vacant if it is safe to do so.

Bernard Carlon, Executive Director of the Centre for Road Safety said the changes to the rule aim to help keep all road users safe.

“The changes to the rule are the result of feedback from the public and stakeholders during the initial trial,” Mr Carlon said.

“These changes enhance safety on higher speed roads where greater time and distance is needed to safely reduce speed.

“We want every road user to feel safe on NSW roads – including those working on the roadside, the people they are helping and those who are slowing down as they pass these stopped vehicles,” Mr Carlon said.

LITHGOW’S GANG GANG GALLERY NOMINATIONS GARDENS OF STONE NOW OPEN FOR SUPPORTS Lithgow’s Gang Gang Gallery commissioned local THE NSW LOCAL recently artist Rachel Szalay to paint CITIZENSHIP the work entitled ‘Gardens of Stone’ as an auction AWARDS prize for the EDO, NSW Gala Council seeks nominations to recognize the achievements of local individuals and their contribution to the Lithgow LGA. Awardees will be announced and celebrated at the Australia Day Ceremony on 26th January 2020.

“There are countless people and organisations working tirelessly within our community that deserve to be recognised for the contributions they make to our region,” said Lithgow City Council Mayor Ray Thompson. “The Citizenship Awards are an important opportunity for the community to recognise these achievements and say thank you.”

Story & Pic Submitted by Janine Kitson, Lithgow Environment Group Rachel Szalay’s ‘Gardens of Stone’ pastel and chalk artwork raised $800 for the EDO, NSW the highly respected community legal centre, that is dedicated to protecting the environment in the public interest.

This stunningly beautiful black and white pastel, with charcoal, is similar to a traditional Chinese ink wash

painting and captures the mystery of Lithgow’s pagoda landscape. Yet the Indigenous message of Yindya-ma-rra Nganga-dha Walawalang “Respect, look after this stony rock place” still resonates through the black and white pastel artwork.

Andrew Chalk, Director of Chalk and Behrendt expressed delight in Rachel Szalay’s artwork as he feels it captures the early morning light of Donkey Mountain, in the Gardens of Stone National Park.

Sharon Howard, Director of the Gang Gang Gallery, who commissioned the art work, believes that Lithgow’s Gang Gang contemporary art gallery is about promoting and provoking artistic introspection into the increasingly important relationship between global environmental challenges & Indigenous cultural awareness.

Local artist Rachel Szalay has a background in theatre and has performed as an actor for the Belvoir Street Theatre and Sydney Theatre Company. Recently Rachel Szalay’s paintings were exhibited in the Gang Gang Gallery exhibition Industrial Lithgow. Dirty Dancing, Friday 25th September on Prime7 at 8:30pm

This 1987 classic sure has stood the test of time. Jennifer Grey as Baby and the amazing Patrick Swayze as Johnny make movie magic with their sultry dance moves.

The choreography and the music make this flick very watchable. Now considered a cult classic, it has spawned a television series, Broadway production and most recently a remake (that wasn’t received to well). A fantastic piece of history that ought to be revisited every now and again.

In 1963, the Houseman family head to a resort in upstate New York’s Catskill Mountains. The youngest daughter, Frances “Baby” Houseman is expected to go on to college, join the Peace Corps and save the world before marrying a doctor, just like her father. Unexpectedly, Baby becomes infatuated with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle, a man whose background is vastly different from her own.

THE LITHGOW VALLEY FILM SOCIETY The Lithgow Valley Film Society is screening a special Presentation – SPOTLIGHT ON AUSTRALIA The Light Between Oceans - Rated M-Mature Themes. WEED CONTROL FARMERS CREEK Contractors to undertake weed control works throughout Farmers Creek.

Council is continuing the implementation of the Farmers Creek Master Plan (FCMP) by enhancing our recreational and natural environment along Farmers Creek.

As part of the Commonwealth Governments Drought Communities Program Contractors have been engaged to complete weed control works along Farmers Creek.

The aims of these works are to control the noxious weeds currently infesting both sides of the creek.

The works are targeting certain species which have been listed as priority noxious species. The weeds identified are;

• Grey Willow • Black Willow • Blackberry • Cotoneaster • English Broom • Montpellier Broom • Small leaf Privet • Japanese Honeysuckle

Contractors will begin the scheduled works at the end of September and work through until December.

Residents will be able to observe changes to the condition of the creek far more regularly as the recreational and amenity values of the area improve, encouraging more people to use this important space.

HOSKINS AMBULANCE SHIELD

An ambitious plan proposed by the Lithgow Six-Hour Day Committee to hold an ambulance competition for bona-fide members of any ambulance brigade in New South Wales was to attract nominations from only two local teams from Lithgow’s St John’s Ambulance in its inaugural year.

Submitted by Jan Saundercock, Lithgow & District Family History Society Inc The competition was held in conjunction with the sports carnival at the new recreation ground following the annual Six-Hour Day procession down Main Street in October 1926.

The No 1 squad consisted of Corporal E Putland, Privates G Purdie and J Walker, Hon Sergeant W T Maker and Mr W Evans who acted as the patient. The No 2 squad contained all privates – Messrs G C Purdie, A Roach, R Lewis, R Muir and L Eckford (patient). No 1 squad was the winner of the shield presented by Messrs Hoskins Ltd for perpetual competition.

The squads were awarded points for first aid and improvised work including stretcher drill and fractures, questions on fractures, haemorrhage and dislocation and other ambulance subjects.

The following year the competition attracted nominations from Lithgow Railway & Tramway Ambulance squad and a crack St John Ambulance team from Glebe. This team were Australian and New Zealand Champions and came with prepared materials. The

Lithgow team was outclassed having to improvise their own gear, even pulling their shirts off and utilising them to make a stretcher from raw materials they secured on site. Overall, the adjudicators assessed Glebe’s effort at two points higher than that of the local team.

Glebe St John’s ambulance returned in 1928 to defeat two local Lithgow teams, scoring 404 out of a possible 435 points.

The competition was suspended in 1929 and the Hoskins Shield was placed on display in the Council Chamber until 1930 when six teams entered. A team from Merrylands-Cabramatta (representing Fairfield & District St John Ambulance) defeated Paddington-Woollahra.

Lithgow No 1 St John Ambulance took third place, proud that they were the only team to secure full marks for obstacle surmounting. The remainder of the teams in descending order were from Marrickville, a ladies’ squad from Bathurst, Lithgow No 2 squad, St George and Bathurst Men’s Squad.

Lithgow won the shield in 1931 from two other teams yet declined to nominate in 1932. Despite letters to nearly every ambulance division in NSW by Mr Leggatt the Sports Secretary, Six Hour Committee, St George Ambulance & Sydney Municipal Council Ambulance Division (St John Ambulance Brigade) were the only teams to nominate that year.

Four Lithgow District teams nominated in 1933 including Dept of Transport (Light Power and Mechanical Branch – loco depot), Portland Ambulance, Lithgow St John Ambulance Brigade and NSW Railway & Tramway Service (Lithgow Guards squad). The fifth team to nominate, Sydney Municipal Council Ambulance Division (St John Ambulance Brigade), retained the Hoskins Shield when they defeated Lithgow St John Ambulance Brigade.

Portland Ambulance Division were the only team to compete against the Sydney Municipal Council Ambulance Division (St John Ambulance Brigade) in 1934. Considering that the Sydney team had won three major competitions in 1933 and was unbeaten in all competitions in 1934, the judges congratulated the members of the Portland team who came within 10 points of their opponents’ winning scores.

It appears that the competition for the Hoskins Shield was suspended as, despite repeated requests and a letter of demand from the Lithgow Six Hour Committee, the shield was never returned to Lithgow for further competition.

The whereabouts of the Hoskins Ambulance Shield remains a mystery to this day.

INGREDIENTS – MARINADE

• ½ cup Plain Yoghurt • 1 tbsp Lemon Juice • 1 tsp Tumeric Powder • 2 tsp Garam Masala • ½ tsp Chilli Powderw • 1 tsp Ground Cummin • 1 tbsp Grated Ginger • 2 tsp Crushed Garlic • 750 g Chicken Breast Fillets, cut into bite size pieces

INGREDIENTS – CURRY

• 1 tbsp Oil • 1 cup Tomato Passata or Tomato Puree • 1 cup Pouring Cream • 1 tbsp Sugar • 1.25 tsp Salt

DIRECTIONS: 1. Combine the marinade ingredients with the chicken in a bowl. Cover and refrigerate overnight or a minimum 3 hours.

2. Heat the vegetable oil over high heat in a large pan. Take the chicken out of the marinade but do not wipe the chicken or shake off the marinade. But don’t pour the left-over marinade into the frypan.

3. Place the chicken into the frypan and cook for around 3 minutes, or until the chicken is white all over.

4. Add the passata, cream, sugar and salt.

Turn the heat down to low and simmer for 20 minutes. Taste to see if it needs more salt.

5.Garnish with coriander and serve with basmati rice.

A CHANCE TO STUDY ABROAD FOR LOCAL CSU STUDENT GABI KNIGHT Words and Photos by Gabi Knight

At the start of July, I flew to Cambodia with fellow Charles Sturt University oral health students from Wagga and dental students from Orange. We arrived in the country’s capital, Phnom Penh, a busy city full of tuk tuks and locals speaking Khmer, the official language of Cambodia. Although Phnom Penh did have beautiful tourist attractions such as the Royal Palace, our Australian eyes were shocked by the sight of stalls on the side of the roads stocking unrefrigerated meat and vegetables.

The program we participated in was run by the nonprofit organisation One-2-One, which coordinate dental treatment and health promotion for the country’s most needy. Our first week was spent in a Province two hours’ drive from the capital where we treated children at a local school. Due to the limited oral health resources in this area, the tooth decay was nothing like anything we’ve experienced in Australia. This gave us great experience and the children were fantastic patients despite the hot, humid conditions we were working in. I’ve never seen a child so grateful for something as small as a sticker. We spent a week at this school.

On the weekend we had spare time, so a couple of my friends and I flew to Siem Reip to check out the ancient temple complex “Angkor Wat”. This was an amazing highlight of the trip alongside the dental treatment provided throughout the week.

The second week of the trip was spent providing dental treatment to children at a school in the capital. We had more resources than the first week, so we were able to do more complex procedures such as tooth fillings and extractions, although the dental drills weren’t what we were used to here in Australia.

All in all, this trip was an amazing experience into dental practice in a third world country. I’d encourage anyone, especially those studying at university, to travel as it is truly eye-opening seeing how things are done differently in other cultures.

THE GLEN MUSEUM GETS PROFESSIONAL

The Glen Museum has taken another step forward in the establishment of a home for the Charlie Pinch collection.

The collection needs to be relocated to Williwa Street, Portland but it is essential for volunteers to be chosen beforehand for training in the skills of cataloguing and handling of the historical artefacts.

The Glen Museum has been fortunate to receive a grant from Museums and Galleries NSW for the training of its volunteers in the management of the collection.

The first of two training sessions was held, courtesy of the Portland RSL, on Saturday 21 September 2019, and run by the very qualified Objects Conservator, Rebecca Dallwitz who has worked at some of Australia’s high-profile museums. Volunteers were shown skills in object handling, marking and tagging, cataloguing and setting up a database. The Oberon Museum also participated and shared their experiences.

FLASH DRAGONS DRAGON BOAT CLUB INVITES YOU TO TRY OUT The Spring and Summer Dragon Boat season is now in full swing and as the local Flash Dragons Dragon Boat Club lift in intensity for it they would like to put out an invitation for anyone looking for a bit of healthy exercise , a change in Summer sport, or looking to take up a summer sport, to come and give it a try.

The great news is anyone from the age of 15 is welcome to have five training / trial sessions for absolutely free to see if it is a sport they would like to continue with before having to outlay on any fees. All equipment is provided by the Club, which has some of the best facilities of any Dragon Boat Club in NSW. Training at this stage is on Sunday mornings for around an hour, meeting at the Lake Wallace Community Boat Shed just prior to 8:45 am. With the advent of Day light saving a second weekly session is added commencing at 5:45 pm and going through to approximately 7 pm In other Dragon Boat news some members of the club are preparing to join forces with other Western Area Dragon Boaters under the team banner of Western Waratahs to compete in up to four 500 metre races at the Penrith Regatta Centre in early October. These are particularly grueling races as the teams have to paddle 500 metres to the start line and then hit the go button to get down the 500 metre course in competition against some of the best paddling teams the State has to offer.

So if a weekly session or two on the water and the option of competing competitively in a sport appeals to you then the Lithgow Flash Dragons would be only too pleased to welcome you
