EVENT OVERVIEW Aussie Leather Crafters is a not for profit community group with a charter of promoting leathercraft throughout the Australian community. We do this by having periodic gatherings where likeminded members get together to share their skills and promote our craft to others. At this event we plan to have demonstrations by some well-known Australian leathercrafters and leathercraft workshops for members and the general public. We have invited the Knife Makers and Blacksmiths groups along with various traditional craft groups to join us for the weekend to stage a family event for Members, Participants and the local surrounding communities. Demonstrations free to all Vendors, Participants, Workshop participants, Camping or Entry ticket holders Leathercraft Demonstrations and Workshops. Other Demonstrations in: Knife making & blacksmithing, Bushcraft, wood working, Medieval archery, Logo design, Vendor Stalls Open to the public from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm both days For Vendor Stalls or further information. ABOUT THE VENUE The venue for Aussie Leathercrafters Gathering 4 is at the “Foundations at Portland� 67 Williwa St Portland NSW 2847. Which is the site of the old Portland Cement works which is currently being redeveloped Portland is just 20 minutes past Lithgow, and the gateway to the beautiful Central West region. Half day class Beginners introduction to leathercraft Sat 30th March 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm Introduction to leathercraft including stamping a design onto the leather. Learn to prepare the leather for tooling including ways to keep moisture in the leather. You will use various stamping tools, to make a design on the leather. You will make 2 drink coasters in this class

An introduction to vector drawing with INKSCAPE Half day class, Saturday 30th March 1.30 pm to 5.00pm In this class you will be introduced to Vector Drawing with INKSCAPE on a Windows computer. You will need to be proficient with the windows operating system.

The class will cover the following topics: • Introductory photo tracing for logo drawing or carving pattern • Basic fonts and shape manipulation for pattern making • Converting small sketches to large images that are fully scalable Students will be provided with INKSCAPE program on a memory stick to be installed on the computer they bring along for class.

Half day class Making a simple pocket knife pouch Sat 30th March 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm Use a simple pattern for a fold and stitch a pocket knife pouch with a flap, press stud and belt loop. So, bring along your favourite pocket knife to the class. Skill level required: Basic Leathercraft would be beneficial but not necessary.

The focus in this class is to carve and tool the design provided, you will learn how to trace, transfer the design to the leather then, carve and tool the simple design. If time permits, we will antique, colour and seal your carving. The picture shows what you are use your carving for, this will not be covered in the class but an option to complete at home. Half day class Creating a leather rose Saturday 30th 1.30 pm to 5.00 pm

Participants will go through all the stages of the process of creating a rose from the leather. This will include the preparation of materials, making patterns, dying materials, assembling and finishing techniques. During the class students will learn how to work with a wide range of Japanese style flower making tools. In addition, students will learn in detail how to make a beautiful realistic looking rose from leather. In addition, students will learn how to work with a wide range of Japanese style flower making tools From this class you will acquire the skills to start making leather flowers for yourselves and at the end of class everybody will have a ready to wear a leather flower their own design.

Half day class Plaiting a small project Sun 31st March 9.00 am to 12.30 pm Owen will take you through all aspects of plaiting a small project from start to finish. In this class you can plait a hat band, lanyard, dog lead, or a wrist band. It would be beneficial if you have some plaiting experience or have completed the beginners plaiting class.

Half day class Marble dyed card holder & luggage tag Sun 31st March 9.00am to 12.30 pm Discover this interesting technique, initially on scrap leather, using marbling gel and dyes to create awesome artwork, and once you refine your skills, you’ll marble a neat little card holder and luggage tag with your final marbled pieces, and then assemble.

Full day class Make a 4-strand red-hide/ latigo stock whip Sunday 31st March 9.00 am to 5.00 pm This class includes making a 4, part Red hide / latigo traditional Australian stock whip by a local awarded professional whip maker. You will be provided with a pre-cut kit to make your own whip in the class. You will learn how to prepare the belly and then plait the whip, fit the fall, cracker along with fitting the handle. There will also be a demonstration on cutting out the whip from the side of red-hide on the Saturday morning.
