The new year brings some exciting events, which we will start to make plans for. First we look forward to welcoming you to our Charity Car Wash in March. The date for this will be in next months issue.

During the spring, we will then announce the date for our Summer Open Day, the most enjoyable event for us and our local community. A chance to come and meet the crew at your local Fire Station. We will have stalls, raffles and live demonstrations, including Ladder Drills, Road Traffic Collision and the Chip Pan Fire display. Please take extra care during the icy conditions we’ve been waking up to in recents mornings. Here are some tips: • Be prepared for bad weather – check the local and national weather forecasts. Listen to local and national radio for travel information. Tell

someone at your destination what time you expect to arrive. • In snowy conditions make sure you are equipped with warm clothes, food, boots and a torch.

• Clear your windows and mirrors before you set out and carry a screen scraper and de-icer. You can keep yourself and others safe, by: • Slowing down. • Keeping a greater distance between yourself and the vehicle in front, (in bad weather increase the 2 second • rule to 4 seconds or even more if icy). • Allowing extra time to complete your journey. • Keeping your mobile fully charged. On colder days be particularly careful on tree lined roads – the trees prevent the sun’s warmth from reaching the road, which may still be icy when all around has thawed.
