off to a great start!!

After seven months of only remote instruction and activities, students and teachers returned to BSD2 schools on a limited basis on Tuesday, October 13.

Positive local COVID-19 infection trends allowed the District to implement its hybrid instructional model. Roughly 60 percent of BSD2 students chose to return to in-person instruction under this plan, while around 40 percent opted to remain remote.

In order to comply with health department social distancing requirements, hybrid students attend school in-person on a rotation of two days per week for three hours a day, with a full day of remote learning each Monday. They are dismissed midday with a grab-and-go lunch, and then resume their learning remotely from home in the afternoon.

Each day students attend school in person, their parents must certify that the students are not experiencing COVID-19 symptoms. Classrooms are configured to provide for appropriate social distancing to the greatest extent possible, and students and staff must wear face coverings at all times while in their schools.

100 PERCENT REMOTE PARENT OPTION Parents had the option to keep their children in the District’s 100 percent remote model through November 20. This timeframe encompasses the end of the first trimester and the issuance of the first trimester report cards.

Parents will have from October 30 – November 6 to choose either the hybrid or all-remote model for their children for the timeframe of November 30 – February 26. Visit bsd2.org for more information.

District 2 still distributing FREE breakfasts and lunches to anyone 18 or younger.

The start of in-person instruction on October 13 brought changes to District 2’s food service program. District 2 is now distributing a week of free meals to individuals 18 years old or younger every Monday.

Distribution occurs from 11:30 am-1:30 pm at all three schools and the five neighborhood bus stops listed below, and from 3-5 pm on Mondays at Blackhawk Middle School.

COVID-19 forces monthly pop-up pantries into drive-through format.

Bensenville School District 2, in partnership with Fenton High School, Wood Dale School District 7, the Bensenville/Wood Dale Food Pantry, and Northern Illinois Food Bank, is continuing to offer perishable and nonperishable food to families through their monthly Food for Families pop-up pantries.

The Bensenville-Wood Dale Rotary Club is continuing with its tradition of organizing a coat drive for November and December. This year will involve only brand new coats purchased through Operation Warm. Families in need should contact their school counselor or social worker for a referral.

2021 VEHICLE STICKERS ARE NOW ON SALE! For residents and businesses that have a sticker currently displayed showing 2020 or before, the deadline to purchase your new 2021 vehicle sticker is December 31st, 2020. The deadline for truck plate stickers is December 15th. Vehicle stickers are required for all vehicles registered to residents and businesses within Bensenville regardless of whether or not the Village issues you a vehicle sticker reminder notice. Code enforcement fines for lack of a valid vehicle sticker will begin starting January 1st, 2021.

The regular passenger vehicle sticker price for non-seniors is $32.00. A $2.00 discount will be applied if payment is made online. Vehicle sticker prices for seniors are $1.00 and last for two years with proof of senior status.

VILLAGE OF BENSENVILLE 50th ANNUAL TOY DRIVE Despite the many challenges this year has presented, the Village is happy to announce that it will continue our annual Village Toy Drive!

With safety being a top priority, the Village will only be accepting monetary donations this year. Adhering to the safety guidelines set forth by the State of Illinois, we are unable to have our traditional Holiday Magic celebration this year. This year’s celebration will consist of a self-guide tour of Bensenville’s most well decorated homes and ends with a drive down Center Street to view a holiday light display and receive a free ornament gift for Bensenville families to enjoy. A late afternoon viewing of holiday decorated homes is encouraged the same day as the Holiday Tree and Lights Spectacular.

Families picking up an ornament are asked to enter off of Green Street heading North on Center Street. Center Street will become a one way only heading North during this event. Ornaments are limited to one per car. For safety concerns, exiting your vehicle will be prohibited.

THE CP HOLIDAY TRAIN IS GOING VIRTUAL

The Canadian Pacific Railroad Holiday Train, which typically makes a stop in Bensenville, will be hosting a virtual concert this year due to COVID-19. This event serves as a way to raise awareness of local hunger issues in communities around the United States and Canada. Their virtual event will feature free live musical entertainment. The Canadian Pacific Railroad has also committed to making a $10,000 donation to the Bensenville – Wood Dale Food Pantry. The Village supports the BensenvilleWood Dale Food Pantry for their tireless efforts as well as CP Railroad for their continued generosity.

Overnight Parking Information – File a Request The temporary ban on overnight (2:00 AM-6:00 AM) parking enforcement has expired. Due to growing complaints from residents of overnight parking violations, the Police Department has resumed overnight parking violation enforcement. To make an overnight parking request, please visit the Village website at www.bensenville.il.us and complete an overnight parking permit request form.

BENSENVILLE HOLIDAY LIGHT RECYCLING PROGRAM The Village of Bensenville has partnered with Elgin Recycling once again to offer free holiday light recycling for Bensenville Residents. Drop off boxes are located at Bensenville Village Hall and the Public Words Facility. Boxes will be accessible to the public during regular business hours until the end of February. All types of holiday string lights, working or not, are accepted.

CHRISTMAS TREE AND HOLIDAY TRASH PICK UP There will be no change to your schedule during the Thanksgiving, Christmas or New Year’s holiday since your pick up day is on Wednesday and Christmas and New Year’s Day fall on a Friday. As in past years, we will be doing Christmas tree pick up the first 2 weeks of January. Trees must be free of tinsel, lights, and ornaments, and should not be placed in bags. Our priorities continue to be the same as we live in a COVID-19 global pandemic: Safety and Wellness, Learning, and Communication. We have so much important news to share with you! It’s broken down into topics below.

MEAL SERVICES | Fenton High School is distributing free meal bundles on Tuesdays and Thursdays to anyone age 18 and younger (or their parents). The food is free of charge and can be picked up using Fenton’s bus lane at any time between 8:30 and 10 am or 11:30 am and 1 pm on either day. Fenton is still processing applications for the Free or Reduced Price Meals program because eligibility also qualifies students for other waivers and fee reductions. For more information on the Free or Reduced Priced Meals program, call the District 100 office at 630.860.6258.

INTERNET CONNECTIVITY | Fenton continues to make sure that all of our students are connected. Of late, Fenton assisted a number of our families with acquiring reliable high-speed internet service in their homes. Families in-need worked with Fenton staff to register for the in-home internet services, which are being paid for by Fenton with reimbursement from the DuPage County Regional Office of Education.

COMMUNITY REPORT | Fenton’s annual Community Report was delivered to every home in Bensenville and Wood Dale in late August. This exciting publication gives our stakeholders a to-the-point overview of what we’re accomplishing together as a community. This year’s edition highlights items such as our 93% graduation rate, 92% attendance rate, 97% ninth grade on track, our speech state champion (Malien Tingpalpong), the 72,281 meals we served during the COVID-19 crisis, Equity Audit, Portrait of a Graduate, as well as Governor JB Pritzker’s visit in March. EQUITY INITIATIVE | Fenton moves into the next phase of our equity audit with the DuPage County Regional Office of Education. After more than a year of fact-finding and identifying inequitable practices, the proposed system enhancements advance to the District Equity Leadership Team and the District 100 Board of Education for implementation. Similarly, our board members are progressing in their own equity journey. The group had a retreat on September 23 titled Equity: An Educational Imperative. The board believes in equity and inclusion. It continues with professional development as it strives to champion social and racial justice and to eliminate bigetry and discrimination.

ROTARY COAT DRIVE | The Bensenville-Wood Dale Rotary Club is continuing with its tradition of organizing a coat drive for November and December. Fenton Students Earn 5s on AP Exams Nineteen remarkable Fenton students and alums earned scores of a perfect 5 on last spring’s AP Exams.

Several students earned a score of 5 on multiple tests. In total 28 Fenton tests earned 5s. THREE FENTON AUTHORS WIN AWARDS AT RECENT LITERACY FESTIVAL Three students from Fenton’s Kaleidoscope literary magazine earned awards in last year’s Upstate 8 Literary Festival. This was Fenton’s first year participating in the festival, with 19 student authors submitting fiction, poetry, drama, and essays.

The School of Dance and Movement offers you a professional studio feel without the scary price tag. Our brochure is packed with classes like Jazz, Hip Hop, Tap and the list goes on. Along with these classes that we’re offering, we also have private lessons.

We know many of your little ones are eager to join us once again, so we are slowly introducing some in-person programming back for them. Starting in January Mini Art Masters, Let’s Be a Math Explorer, and Fun in Motion Head to Toe will take off.
