While we continue to move in the right direction, Village planned summer events like Music in the Park and 4th of July festivities have not yet been confirmed as of the printing of this newsletter. The Village continues to monitor state guidelines for large gatherings. Please visit the Village’s website and follow us on social media for the most up-to-date information.

The Village of Bensenville makes FREE mulch available to incorporated Bensenville residents. This opportunity is the result of in town brush pickups, tree trimmings, and tree removals. Mulch is available 7 days a week at the Public Works parking lot (717 E. Jefferson Street) and is accessible at the NE corner in a concrete bin for residents to help themselves. Residents are responsible for loading their own mulch, containers, shovels, and their own transportation. The property is under surveillance - please be respectful of other residents and the Public Works Facility.

Show the Bensenville Police Department some love during National Police Week May 9th-15th. Here are a few things you can do to show your support to the Bensenville Police Department: • Wear a blue ribbon. • Hang a blue flag off of your porch. • Thank police officers on your business’s marquee, if you have one. • Write a letter to your local police department thanking them for their service. • Put a blue light at the front of your home. • Share some positive police stories on social media. • If you see a police officer in person, thank them!

As long as we remain in Phase 4 or 5 of Governor Pritzker’s Restore Illinois plan, we will continue our annual Spring Community Yard Sale. Residents are encouraged to clean up and cash in by holding household yard sales the extended weekend of Thursday, June 3rd through Sunday, June 6th. To host a yard sale, residents must complete a yard sale application and obtain a FREE permit. Permits can now be issued electronically by emailing a completed yard sale application to permits@bensenville.il.us or in person by going into Village Hall during regular hours of operation. In addition to our typical yard sale flyer, we will also have a virtual yard sale guide available on the Village website to make navigating community yard sales even easier! If you wish to have your address posted on the community yard sale flyer or virtual guide, please turn in your application by June 1st. Are you interested in receiving information on things happening in our community? To receive email and/or text message notifications on things like calendar events, community jobs, and Village programs, we encourage you to subscribe to the Village’s notify me message center. This service provides a way for residents to subscribe to topics that are important to them. To subscribe, please visit the Village website and click the receive notifications icon on the home page.

The Village’s community job board is a great resource for both residents and businesses. It allows Bensenville businesses who are looking to hire employees to post those job opportunities free of charge and is also another outlet for residents seeking employment close to home to find a job. VILLAGE WATER BILL DROP OFF BOX | A curbside drop box for utility bill payments is located on the west side of Village Hall at 12 South Center Street. Please be sure to provide your account number or other account identification information so that the payment can be applied to your account correctly. OVERNIGHT PARKING | Overnight parking on Village streets between 2-6 am is prohibited unless parking permission is requested. Parking permission may be granted on Village streets where signs do not prohibit and vehicles must be legally parked. To avoid a ticket, submit an overnight parking request online at bensenville.il.us. Households are limited to a maximum of five (5) requests for overnight parking per month.

When parking on your property, please remember that parking on grass or gravel is not permitted. All parking

PLEASE PICK-UP AFTER YOUR PET | Please remember to do your part and clean up after your pet. Besides being unsightly and smelly, animal waste can be hazardous and attract unwanted pests. When walking your dog in our community, remember that it should be leashed and to immediately clean up after they do their business. Thank you for your cooperation! With warmer weather just around the corner, you may come across a solicitor at your front door. Please remember not to open your door for someone you do not know. If a solicitor or stranger becomes aggressive or tries to enter your home, call 911. Solicitors must receive a permit from the Village prior to going door to door. To help deter solicitors from knocking on your door, free NO SOLICITOR stickers are available at Village Hall. In addition to their electronics recycling program, Addison Township is expanding their recycling program to also collect textiles such as clothing, bedding, etc. Textile recycling will take place on the same days as electronics recycling at 411 West Potter Street, Wood Dale from 8 am – noon.

Household Hazardous Waste Materials such as oil-based paint, pesticides, poisons, cleaning solvents, gasoline, motor oil and other automotive fluids are considered Household Hazardous Waste. Liquids, flammable, toxic, corrosive or reactive products cannot be included with regular refuse for disposal and must be disposed at a hazardous waste disposal site. Naperville offers household waste disposal facility located at 156 Fort Hill Drive, Naperville. The facility is open Saturday and Sunday from 9am-2pm. If you have questions about the disposal of these items, please contact the DuPage County Environmental Division at 630.407.7670.

The Village will host a document shredding event on Saturday, June 12th from 10 AM – noon in the Public Works Facility parking lot located at 717 E Jefferson St in Bensenville. This free event is available to all DuPage County residents. Participants may bring up to 2 banker boxes of paper for shredding, NO businesses. This will be a contactless, drive-up event, please stay in your vehicle and place documents in your trunk. All shredding occurs on-site. Please remove binders, rubber bands, plastic page protectors, plastic bags, plastic file tabs, CDs and other hard items. Staples, paper clips, and fasteners do not need to be removed.

Spring is a great time to inspect and repair your mailbox after the long winter. Below are a few helpful things you can do this spring to ensure your mailbox is working like new. • Check your post to ensure it is secure and well anchored. • To avoid damaging underground utilities when replacing a post, prior to digging, call J.U.L.I.E. at 800.892.0123 for utility locations. • The face of your mailbox should be no closer than 6” from the curb. • The height should be 41” to 45” from the bottom of your mailbox to the ground. • Bury your post no more than 24” deep. • Mailbox numbers should be permanently and clearly marked on your mailbox. • Be sure to replace any deteriorated hardware, bracing, or decorative pieces. • A fresh coat of paint on metal and wood materials can help protect your mailbox against damage caused by rain and snow.
