hello! bensenville a lifelong learning community | september/october 2022
BENSENVILLE PARK DISTRICT Dear Residents,
As a hot and fun summer comes to a close, I invite you to visit one of our many parks and recreation spaces throughout the district. This summer has been a busy one for the park district, our leadership and our staff. We have programmed more than 50 special events in our neighborhood parks this summer through our Park ‘n Play initiative, and we look forward to providing year-round programming by meeting you at the park. We opened the new Breiter-Palm Park, featuring new fitness stations and an ADA-enhanced playground for all intended to be a community gathering place for children of all abilities to enjoy. And we acquired Fischer Farm through an intergovernmental agreement with the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County, which will allow us to expand the scope of activities and improvements we can make at the property. This fall, we look forward to a number of new and improved programs and activities for our residents. We are pleased to offer a new campfire cooking program at Fischer Farm, in addition to new farm chore animal programs, batty about bats and a new pumpkins in the parks program at several different parks. Harvest Fest at Fischer Farm will be bigger and better than ever, with three days of live music, family fun, food and drink. We are thankful to our sponsors, including Grand Subaru and 95.9 The River, for helping make this possible.
VERSITI BLOOD DRIVE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7 12 TO 5 PM BENSENVILLE LIBRARY
Versiti Blood Center of Illinois will be hosting a blood drive to save lives on Wednesday, September 7 from 12:00 to 5:00 pm at the Bensenville Community Public Library. Giving blood is one of the quickest, yet most impactful ways to help your community; one donation can help save up to 3 lives! Reserve your appointment slot at: benlib.org/ blood-drive. Please bring a photo ID and expect your appointment to take 45-60 minutes.
Look for new and exciting events and activities at White Pines Golf Club this fall as well! In addition to our annual Veterans Day Breakfast. Activities will include live music as well as different dining specials and offerings through our 37 Bar & Grill. The Wood Street Fitness group fitness program has expanded in terms of class offerings and variety in order to better serve our residents. In just six short months, we’ve expanded from less than 10 classes to 23 classes geared toward all ages and fitness levels. We are also expanding our cultural and fine arts programming with new acting and music classes in addition to a new autumn art workshop. As part of the Bensenville Park District 2.0 initiative, the park district will continue to partner with the district’s other taxing bodies to provide improved facilities and programs to better serve our residents in an efficient manner. We will continue to seek your input as we plan for future programs and activities. Please contact us with your constructive ideas, suggestions and concerns. Registration for fall programs is open now at the Deer Grove Leisure Center. Looking forward to meeting you at the park this fall! JOSEPH C. VALLEZ | Executive Director BENSENVILLE PARK DISTRICT
