Voters to decide Municipal Electric Aggregation The Village Board recently passed an ordinance to place a referendum question on the November 6 ballot that will ask residents whether the Village of Bensenville should participate in Municipal Electric Aggregation. Since the Illinois Legislature passed a bill in 2009 allowing municipalities to aggregate, nearly 250 communities have already voted to approve participation in a combined electricity purchase or aggregation program. Simply put, passage of the referendum authorizes the Village of Bensenville to begin an open, transparent and competitive process to negotiate rates and determine the best offer available. The village will then negotiate the purchase of the combined electric supply to reduce the electric supply rate of the electric bill. If approved, eligible residential and small business customers would be automatically moved to the selected supplier. The only noticeable difference would be a reduced bill; ComEd would continue to transmit the electricity and will still be responsible for all billing as well as repairs and outages. If the referendum passes, residents do not need to take any action in order to participate in the aggregation program and to get the negotiated electric supply price. However, residents who decide not to participate in the aggregation program will need to take action to opt-out. The exact language of the public questions is shown below. A “YES” vote supports the aggregation program and a “NO” vote opposes the program: Shall the Village of Bensenville have the authority to arrange for the supply of electricity for its residential and small commercial retail customers who have not opted out of such program?

YES NO
