KEITH HART President - The Hart Agency Chairman - 2017 Long Island Hospitality Ball Welcome to the Long Island Hospitality Ball 2017! It is surreal that this is our seventh year of the Long Island Hospitality Ball!!! Reflecting back to when we first started this journey, we never expected that it would have grown to this magnitude. Every year we have some of the best wine, spirits and beer companies, restaurateurs, nightclub owners, saloonkeepers, promoters, entertainers, bartenders, and wait staff that Long Island has to offer. I remember the day I sat down with Jay Grossman and Gregory Bartolotta (both on the executive committee), along with Tony Greco at the restaurant, Four, now known as The Refuge. We discussed bringing back the “Bartenders Ball” with a little extra flare, of course. From that meeting the Long Island Hospitality Ball was born It was around that time in which my life became plagued with cancer. In that year, I had undergone treatment for thyroid cancer and was recently in remission. Then, my partner, Larry Golus of the Hart Agency, lost his father in a battle to cancer. And, my father, Robert Hart, was newly diagnosed with lung cancer. It was for this reason, along with decades of being tied to the hospitality industry, that inspired the Long Island Hospitality Ball executive committee and me to give back to a cause that has touched so many lives. We strived to make a difference to those affected by cancer and to create a party for all of those who make celebrations possible in the hospitality industry. The first year was a bigger success than anyone thought. I can never replace the memories of having both my mother and father there with me. Seeing them among all the things going on with my father at the time and simply having the time of their lives was incredible. Six months after the first ball, my father had lost his battle to cancer, which ignited the passion within me to keep this wonderful Ball alive. Over the years we have accumulated an amazing team that “leaves their ego at the door” for this cause. Firstly, I would like to give a very special thanks to MariaElena who works endlessly to make this event possible. She has been my rock throughout this journey by keeping me organized and grounded. Secondly, thank you to Daria and Jeanine for their relentless efforts. Also, I would like to give gratitude to the committee members and the executive committee for all of their valuable time and hard work that makes an event of this caliber possible. Next, to our partners Anne and Jeanette from the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research fund, and Brian O’Hea, Director of Carol M. Baldwin Breast Care Center; it has been pleasure working with you over the last few years. Finally, much appreciation goes to our participants and sponsors that show support year after year. Every year we select honorees based on the years in the business and accomplishments that they have had. I would like to congratulate this year’s honorees: Giovanni Casano, On-Premise Division Manager & Director of Sales of Empire Wines & Spirits; MatthewYonick, General Sales Manager of Manhattan Beer Distributors; Bobby Goodrich, Restaurant, Night Club Impresario; and a Lifetime Achievement award to Rob Verderosa, Hospitality Consultant. A special congratulation to our Ed Lowe Media Award: Joan Reminick food critic from Newsday. Thank you everyone for making the Long Island Hospitality Ball 2017 the most anticipated event of the season! It is the collaborative efforts of our members, participants and your contribution that helps bring awareness to a cause close to our hearts, and creates a night that will be “the most fun you will have with your clothes on!”. So please enjoy the fabulous food, delicious libations, and exceptional entertainment. Cheers to you Mom & Dad!

May 23rd, 2017 On behalf of my family and myself, I would like to thank you for nomina=ng me as an honoree for the 7th annual Long Island Hospitality Ball. I thank the nomina=ng commiEee for this great honor in my life. I would like to congratulate my fellow honorees as well Giovanni Casano and MaE Yonick. A special thank you to my wife Donna and to my son Max for all their support they’ve shown me over these many years. The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund on a personal level has a deep meaning for my family and me. My wife Donna is a Breast Cancer survivor and I survived having Prostate Cancer. We survived because of technology today that is able to detect cancer in its early stages. A special thank you to Keith Hart, the Hart Agency and the commiEee that all worked =relessly in producing this event. This event brings the Long Island Hospitality community together for this common cause. It is truly an amazing night. Thank you once again for allowing me to be a part of this. I am humbled and truly, honored.

Yours Truly Bobby Goodrich

Long Island Hospitality Ball HONOREE - BOBBY GOODRICH “40 YEARS BEHIND BARS” As a young struggling actor making the daily rounds to agents and casting directors, I supported myself by being a bartender at night. For my first bartending job, I was hired as a service bartender in Queens at the Monastery discotheque. I was scared out of my mind. So scared that I wrote out the entire Mr. Boston Book of Drinks and taped them all over the walls. A few weeks later I was moved to the main bar which was my real first interaction with customers. After a while, I suggested to the owner to use soda guns instead of bottles he said “great, you’re now the bar manager!” Later I said to the owner “why doesn’t the DJ make announcements about the upcoming promotions?” He asked me if I can do it. I said “I’ll try” to which he responded…”great you’re now the promotional director!” Eventually I became the general manager of the Monastery. Since I was doing everything there I realized I could open my own nightclub and do this for myself so…In 1977…I opened my first discotheque called the Lemontree. The Lemontree was in a basement on Austin Street in Forest Hills. Having run out of money for advertizing & promotions I realized I couldn’t build the business from the outside in so I stood at the door and embraced every customer who entered. By greeting every customer, it enabled me to build the business from the inside out. The Lemontree became a tremendous success much to the frustration of my competitors. They couldn’t figure out why this basement discotheque had lines around the block. What I learned from this experience was that it wasn’t about 500 people coming to your club; it was about meeting every individual 500 times. I realized also what worked for other people didn’t necessarily work for me. I had to adapt. At times I had difficulty getting customers to come in through the front door, so I created multiple reasons for them to come in through the back. At the end of the day, for whatever reason they came and thank God the place was consistently packed. I accepted the fact that I had to work three times as hard as my competition. My competition believed in “build a club and they will come.” My journey didn’t have that luxury. I’ve always asked myself what differentiates me from the next place. Why would they come to me instead of those places that were bigger, had better parking and plenty of operating capital? I didn’t have those tools. But I realized the one tool I could fight them with was personalization and hospitality. It worked and the Lemontree was successful. I write about the experience and the lessons I learned of my early days at The Lemontree for a reason. I took those same principles I learned earlier in my career as I continued later in life to get involved with other venues. I will always treasure those days That’s how my career started. Now years have gone and after owning, operating, managing, consulting and promoting over 140 bars, restaurants, lounges, nightclubs, rooftops and concerts, I still bring into play those early years of my career where I learned the importance of the individual. For me it was never about the hospitality business, it was always about the people business. Even though the times have changed and how many socialize is somewhat different, the one thing that has not changed is my appreciation of and for people. I still look forward every night to walking into a venue, shaking hands and interacting with people. Someone recently asked me, why I don’t retire after all these years? My answer to them is why? I love what I do, I’ve always loved what I do and I can’t wait for the next adventure to do it again.

I want to take this opportunity to thank Keith and the entire Long Island Hospitality Ball Committee and

all of its members as well as congratulate my co-honorees Giovanni Casano and Bobby Goodrich.

It was a great thrill to get the call from Keith months back informing me of the news that I was selected

as one of the honorees and was immediately delighted to know that I was going to play a bigger role in this year's event benefiting The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. This business allows us

many great privileges and to be able to leverage our network to help others and to try and make a difference is a great thing.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all the merchants and retailers, restaurant and tavern

owners across the Island; It is because of your unwavering support and partnership to Manhattan Beer

Distributors and myself coupled with our dedication and commitment to your business, is the reason we

together have experienced continuous growth over the last two decades. I have met and built

relationships with some incredible, talented, and genuine individuals that I consider friends who have all contributed in their own way along this journey.

And lastly to my wife Brooke who if not for having patience of a Saint, my career could have had a different fate. The unconditional support that I get from her is the main reason I am able to stay

committed and focused each and every day. Matthew Yonick

Long Island Hospitality Ball LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD ROB VERDEROSA Rob Verderosa is a restaurant consultant with acclaimed restaurants SALT Waterfront Restaurant in Merrick, Mesita Mexican Restaurant and Parlay Gastropub in Rockville Centre. Rob was born in Elmhurst, NY where he was exposed to music from birth. His father was an aspiring musician who held practices for his band in which Rob would sit and absorb the music being played. By the age of three he discovered his parents’ 45s and found a passion for records. During college Rob would practice spinning on turntables whenever and wherever he could. He saw the potential for DJs in the bar scene, as opposed to the club scene, and became the most popular DJ in the Hofstra bar scene, soon to be known as the legendary DJ Rob Vee. After making his mark as a DJ, Rob began his hospitality consulting career with prominent bars and restaurants spanning from the Foggy Goggle in Hampton Bays to Porky’s NYC in the Flat Iron district of Manhattan. He has employed thousands of Long Island hospitality employees. He served as a mentor to help many past employees further establish their careers in the hospitality industry as DJs, beer/liquor salespeople, managers, or even restaurant and bar owners. Rob is a true icon in the Long Island hospitality industry. He is the core that keeps a community of people together, always willing to lend a helping hand, organize a fundraiser, or throw one hell of a party. Rob says, “a person’s success in the hospitality industry is based on reputation; and if people remember the party you provided, your reputation will always speak for itself.” Rob is a graduate of Oceanside High School. He received his Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Hofstra University where he also served as President of his Fraternity, Delta Sigma Phi. He is a loving husband to his wife Fran and father to his 8 year-old daughter Isabella and his 5 year-old son Dominick. They live in Bellmore, NY. On March 14, 2017 Rob suffered a serious stroke. He has been fighting every day to recover. His family thanks everyone for his or her thoughts and prayers on Rob’s road to recovery. #prayforrobvee

Long Island Hospitality Ball 2017 ED LOWE MEDIA AWARD JOAN REMINICK When Joan Reminick retired, after 25 years as a restaurant critic and food writer for Newsday, she had eaten close to 6,000 meals on the job. That’s a lot of rigatoni ala vodka, chirashi and chicken tikka masala. Over all those years, eating out for a living never got old. Born Joan Diskin, she grew up in a Brooklyn home that, while happy, was gastronomically challenged. Typical dinner: Leathery overcooked steak with canned peas and pre-frozen fries. Thus was born her appreciation of and obsession with dishes made from scratch with skill and care. After marrying Burt Reminick, graduating Brooklyn College and Hofstra University, Joan taught English and Humanities at Farmingdale High School. She left teaching when her children, Alison and David, were born and it was while they were growing up that she was able to pursue her first love, writing. She worked as a freelance journalist, had a few short works of fiction published and wrote a novel with a food critic as its central character. Truth became stranger than fiction when she landed her dream job as a restaurant critic and food writer for Newsday. At first, the work was freelance; later, it became full-time. And writing for the printed page evolved into blogging for the Internet. And, wow, what an appreciation of the Long Island restaurant industry she gained over the years. Now, during retirement, Joan is using her critical skills in a new way, as a consultant bent on making every restaurant realize its promise and potential. She is both honored and grateful to be receiving a media award named for one of Newsday’s most iconic writers, the late Ed Lowe. What gives this award even greater meaning is that it’s being presented at the Long Island Hospitality Ball, a fundraising event for the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. The fight against cancer is a cause that greatly impacts the Reminick family - and, really, everyone. Let’s do all we can to find a cure. We look forward to a day when our most pressing question will be, “Where do we eat tonight?”

June 26, 2017 Dear Friends, Please accept my best wishes for a successful fundraiser benefitting the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. I am honored to join members and guests of the Long Island Hospitality Ball (LIBH) to mark this special occasion. For seven years, LIBH has demonstrated its tireless commitment support cancer research. Since its inception, LIBH volunteers have raised more than $2 million for cancer research, including a whopping $408,215 at last year's event. It is an honor to recognize your hardworking team for all to continue in Keith Hart's mission to raise money for such an important cause. It is a pleasure to congratulate your honorees - Giovanni Casano, Bobby Goodrich, Matthew Yonick, Rob Verderosa and Joan Reminick - in recognition of their many accomplishments and service to the community. As you take this moment to reflect on your past and look towards the future, please accept my best wishes for an enjoyable evening and continued success.

Very truly yours,

Eric A. Ulrich Council Member
