1st Annual Long Island Hospitality Ball, March 21, 2011
with love, - The Hart Family -
A Message from Keith Hart, President The Hart Agency Chairman, 2016 Long Island Hospitality Ball Welcome to the Long Island Hospitality Ball 2016! Tonight we have some of the best wine, spirit and beer companies, restaurateurs, nightclub owners, saloonkeepers, promoters, entertainers, bartenders and wait staff on Long Island. All of these people put aside their competitive differences by “checking their egos at the door” for the common good of the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund. Firstly, I would like to give thanks to the committee members and executive committee for all their valuable time and hard work that makes an event of this caliber possible. Also, I want to give a special thanks to Daria, MariaElena and Jeanine for their relentless efforts. Finally, to our new partners Anne and Jeanette from the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund; it has been and will continue to be a pleasure working with you. I would like to congratulate this year’s honorees: Sean Rose of Claire Rose, Garrett McGuinness of Southern Wine & Spirits, Chris D’Ambrosi from Mio Posto, and a posthumously thanks to Jerry Cusack from Heffron’s and Babylon Carriage House for all his help in the past, you have left your mark on the industry and will always be remembered. Last but definitely not least, I want to recognize all of those in the hospitality industry for all your service and making an experiences for your patrons; it’s time for you to enjoy a night of your own! Just as years in the past, this 6th Annual Long Island Hospitality Ball has become an event not to be missed and it is for a good reason. Despite all the advances in modern medicine there are still too many of our family members, friends, and loved ones that are losing their fight to relentless cancer. It is the collaborative efforts of our members, participants and your contributions that will help bring awareness to the cause and fund vital research to get us closer to finding a cure. It is imperative we continue fighting the good fight together. It gives me great pleasure to say that every year the Long Island Hospitality Ball has increasingly becaome the most anticipated event of the season. It really is “the most fun you will have with your clothes on!” It is the combination of delicious food, great libations, top-notch entertainment, the people, a night filled with passion, and the fact that it is all for a good cause that makes it an unforgettable experience. Thank you everyone for your continued support, participation and enthusiasm! Enjoy!

Sean Fredric Rose Sean Rose is the President & CEO of Clare Rose Inc. Clare Rose sells and promotes Anheuser-Busch products, Heineken USA products, and a variety of Long Island Breweries to over 5,000 accounts across Long Island. He is the third generation to lead the company that his grandfather, Clare, started in 1936. Along with running the day to day operations at Clare Rose, he is politically active in beer industry issues such as Excise Tax legislation, Bottle Bill reform and is an officer of the New York State Beer Wholesalers Association. Sean continues to support the Clare Rose tradition of giving back to the community. He has been an active member of AHRC (Association for the Help of Retarded Children) for many years and is currently the Foundation Board President. He is also active in fundraising for The De La Salle School in Freeport, NY for economically disadvantaged children and is active in his local community church. Sean attended college preparatory at LaSalle Military Academy in Oakdale and graduated in 1994. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing Management from Siena College in Loudonville, NY and a Master of Arts in Management from Webster University in St. Louis. Sean is a dedicated husband to his lovely wife Michelle as well as a devoted father to his three children Isabella, George & Jamison. He is an avid boater and likes to spend time on Fire Island with his family. They reside in Blue Point, NY.
Garrett McGuiness What an honor to be chosen as this year’s co-Honoree with Sean Rose of Clare Rose; always considered top class of the Budweiser wholesaler’s network in the US. I spent many years competing against Sean during my career at Manhattan Beer (also considered a top wholesaler in the US). Everyone at this event has been touched or punched by this dreadful disease called cancer. Some of us more than others. I lost my mother, mother in law, cousins, grandmothers, and friends all to this disease. My brother Peter, nephew Mathew, and of course my friend Keith have all beaten this disease. If you coached an NFL team and your record was 3 wins and 13 loses----“you’re fired”. We were not looking to make the Super Bowl but another few wins would have been nice. Garrett L. McGuinness was born in Green Point, Brooklyn and is the son of Peter & Maryann. His father was a police officer in NYC and his mother was in the insurance business. Both have passed over the last 6 years (mother to cancer and father to a car accident a little over a year ago). A day doesn’t go by without the reminder of all that was lost due to this disease and what our children have missed out on not having all of these special people in their lives. Mr. Garrett McGuinness, an accomplished alcohol industry veteran with more than 24 years’ experience; currently Vice President & General Manger Spirits MNY for Southern Wine & Spirits. In his current role he manages the sales force for the spirits side of Metro New York reporting to Larry Romer Senior Vice President/General Manager of Spirits for the state of New York. Garrett has been married to his wife Kathleen since 1992 (24yrs) and has 2 children, Garrett 14 years old and Kyle 13 years old. Both honor students at Kellenberg High School & Middle School. He would like to say he was the influence for his son’s being honor students (all Kathleen) as his children call him the “over achieving C student” straight through college. They have lived in Huntington for 24+ years. Garrett is honored and humbled to be selected as an Honoree of this year’s Long Island Hospitality Ball. Please “Don’t count the Days-Make the day’s count” Mohammad Ali 1942.
Garrett McGuiness Garrett was born and raised until the age of 12, in Brooklyn, NY. (Yes, McGuinness Blvd is named after his great grandfather Peter McGuinness.) Garrett is the son of a New York City Policeman, and one of four children to MaryAnn & Peter. His family moved to East Meadow, Long Island where he lived until he married Kathleen and moved to Huntington, NY. Mr. Garrett McGuinness, an accomplished industry veteran with more than 24 years of experience, he is currently Vice President & General Sales Manager Spirits MNY for Southern Wine & Spirits. In his current role he manages the sales force for the spirits side of Metro New York reporting to Larry Romer, Senior Vice President/ General Manager of Spirits for the state of New York. Garrett began his career working for Nestle Beverage USA as District Manager in Queens & Brooklyn. He was later promoted to the National Accounts Team calling on large grocery chains headquartered on the East Coast. His next step was into the beer industry working for Canada Dry Coors Distributing Company of New York where he ran the Off Premise Wholesale Division. Garrett then made a move to the supplier side with Guinness Import Company. He was District Manager in the New York Area. Garrett’s path became very diverse on his next step. He purchased, renovated and operated two restaurants (Dunhill’s North & South) with his wife Kathleen on Long Island for 8 years. He sold both restaurants in 2001 and returned back to the wholesaler side of the business. He began working for Manhattan Beer Company managing the Beer Distributor segment of the market in New York. In 2006, he began his career at Pernod Ricard USA, as a Metro Manager calling on SWS. Garrett was promoted in 2008, to the position of Business Unit Director of the East. For the next six years Garrett managed several states for Pernod Ricard along the East Coast. In July of 2014, Garrett accepted an offer from Southern Wine & Spirits. Garrett Currently resides in Cold Spring Hills, New York with his wife Kathleen of 24 years and his sons.

Thank you for your consideration and nomination as an honoree for the 6 th annual, 2016 Long Island Hospitality Ball. It is with great privilege to have been awarded such acknowledgment from a prestigious committee of influential professionals of
the culinary, wine and spirits empire. I am honored to be a part of supporting The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund and its admirable dedication in the hopes of finding a cure.
I’d like to thank all those who have supported my dedication to the restaurant
business and believed in my vision of fine dining. The Mio Posto team has always
been united in creating and executing a savory and hospitable experience. More personally, I’d like to thank my wife Gena, sons Vincent and Sabatino and my partner, Frank DePierro for their endless dedication to our success.
In addition, I’d like to thank all who are part of the Long Island Hospitality Ball,
Keith Hart and the Hart Agency, and the 2015 honorees, Frank Russo Jr. and Isaac B.
Marten. Congratulations to my co-honorees, Garrett McGuinness of Southern Wine
and Spirits and Sean Rose of Clare Rose, Inc. I am honored to be sharing this
commemoration with such admirable and impressive influential professionals from
this industry. It is a privilege to be amongst all involved in such a wonderful and successful charitable benefit to support our community. I look forward to being part of this memorable and meaningful event.
Chris D’Ambrosi Chris D’Ambrosi
Owner of Mio Posto
Chris D’Ambrosi My empire and reputation are what make the people that come into my restaurants thirsty for a glimpse of what life is like being on the top of the guest list with no reservations. Proven to be a renowned candidate in the restaurant industry having owned and operated several successful restaurants has been a minor reflection on the past two decades of the growth, excitement, and evolution of myself and my establishments. The gained knowledge and experience I’ve had over the past 25 years has allowed me to learn the trade inside and out from bottom up. Being a waiter from the ages of 19-23 at Matteo’s in Roslyn introduced me to my first managerial position at only 23 years old. I then opened my first restaurant as owner, Matteo’s of Howard Beach, at only 26 years old. Just a short time later, I opened my second restaurant; Matteo’s of Long Beach and became partner in a third, Matteo’s of Huntington. Venturing on my own at the age of 32 alongside my lifelong friend, Frank DePierro, to open our own restaurant, Mio Posto of Oceanside, followed by our second restaurant, Mio Posto of Hicksville. Such accomplishments have awarded me Business Man of the Year in 2007 in Long Beach and 2010 in Nassau County. From waiting tables to managerial positions and eventually owning restaurants, the business has always been a hands-on collaboration to enjoy and evolve my own passion of pleasing people personally and through the fine dining experience. Such a lasting impression has been the ability to reinvent dining to include not only supper, but also the entertainment and club vibe in restaurants throughout Long Island. Whether it is a Wednesday or Friday night, Summer or Winter, our dinner to dancing transformations have lasted as long as the night will carry on. I can’t help to treat each customer like a personal friend; whether it’s to share a conversation, a cocktail, or a night out. Supporting my friends has always been of great importance especially when contributing towards a positive cause; whether that is for political and non-political organizations, fundraisers, or donations to each and every group that has come my way for help no matter how big or small. I continue to do what I love and touch peoples’ lives despite my own struggles. Recently diagnosed with Stage Four Cancer has allowed me to accept such humility and challenged me to fight the fight of a lifetime. Like a true champion, I remain positive because of the support of my family, especially my wife Gena, and sons Vincent and Sabatino, and friends, as now many have come together to help me beat this battle. I live by the motto that life isn’t about the amount of years you live, but the life you put into those years. Though the industry has its challenges, I can only aspire to always aim for success as a restaurateur and owner of the Mio Posto dynasty. I will continue to strive for excellence with the quality of our food, service, and overall experience in hopes of expanding the Mio Posto legacy. From professional to personal, my journeys and experiences continue to allow me to learn, reflect and reinvent myself and my business. I know that this year will be better than the last, and I welcome the many more to come.
Jerry Cusack, Babylon Carriage House Jerry Cusack a leading figure in Long Island’s hospitality industry for 35 years and owner of the historic Babylon Carriage House, passed away at the young age of only 56 on April 10th, 2015. Jerry opened up his “dream restaurant” in 2003 spending 18 months to renovate a civil war carriage house. Complete with a grand staircase, a large rock fireplace and a floor-to-ceiling wine rack at the main entrance the restaurant combines classic and modern design with impressive wood beams from the 1890’s spanning the second floor dining room. The restaurant was a culmination of Jerry’s 2 decades of work in the hospitality industry during which he owned a series of pubs, nightclubs and grills from Wantagh to Hauppauge starting in 1981. “He loved the business,” said his wife Cindy, who first met Jerry while working at Hefron’s and married him in 1994. “He was an excellent marketer, always promoting the business.” Jerry and his wife have two daughters who still reside on the south shore of Long Island. He graduated from Lindenhurst High School in 1976 and went on study Health Education at LIU Post graduating with a BS in 1980. Jerry was also a leader in the 1980’s and 1990’s to slow down legislation to bar smoking in restaurants and other public places. As Patrick Halpern, former Suffolk County executive said in Jerry’s obituary, “He took a rundown car repair shop that was dilapidated, and transformed it – preserving its historic character – into Main Streets biggest restaurant. It was an enormous risk but it paid off because he was a south shore guy who believed in the downtown’s potential.” Jerry will be sorely missed by all who knew him. -excerpts from Newsday’s obituary for Jerry Cusack by Rick Brand
