LBC Ronda Pilipinas 10th Anniversary Race Ended in Vigan

Vigan City, Ilocos Sur- The 26 year old Kenneth Solis of Team Tarlac got his very first lap victory also with George Oconer from Standard InsuranceNavy stayed firmly in the Ninth and Penultimate Stage of LBC Ronda Pilipinas 10th Anniversay Race held last March 4 at the Heritage City of Vigan.

The first group who arrived the heritage city were Bryant Sepnio of Celeste Cycles, Mervin Corpuz of 7Eleven Cliqq-Air21 by Roadbike Philippines and two-time champion Santy Barnachea of Scratch It who travelled four hours, 15 minutes and 27 seconds during the Stage Nine in Pugo, La Union and ended in front of the Ilocos Sur Provincial Capitol.

Solis said in an interview that his victory is special because of his wife and their baby.

However, George Oconer who kept his place of the individual general classification lead with 31:50:52 ahead of teammates Ronald Oranza (31:52:07), Ronald Lomotos (31:52:10), John Mark

Camingao (31:52:45), Junrey Navarra (31:53:09) and El Joshua Carino (31:54:43).

Oconer and the rest of the Navymen, who have also virtually sealed the overall team crown, dedicated their victory to Standard Insurance Group chairman Ernesto “Judes” Echauz.

The Standard Insurance-Navy led by Oconer gratified the endless support of SIG Chairman to them in the entire race and he shared their victory to him.

The 137-kilometer Stage One in Sorsogon, then 163-km SorsogonLegazpi for Stage two, 126.9-km LegazpiNaga for Stage Three, 212.5-km DaetLucena for Stage Four, and 155.4-km Lucena-Antipolo for Stage Five in February 27.

Afterwards was 128.9-km in Lingayen-Lingayen Stage Six then 171.9-km Lingayen-Nueva Ecija for Stage Seven, 177.1-km Nueva Ecija-Baguio for Stage Eight, 176.4-km Pugo, La UnionVigan for Stage Nine before ending it with a Stage 10 criterium in Vigan last March 4.

Vigan City Observes Earth Hour Amidst the Pandemic

As most of human activities destroys the natural formation of Earth, climate change or global warming was being felt by human progressively yearly. In order to address this Global issue, many countries and organizations created a movement for the preservation of the environment.

Every month of March the Earth Hour which is a worldwide movement organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The activity is conducted yearly encouraging individuals, communities, and businesses to turn off non-essential electric lights within an hour usually from 08:30 PM to 09:30 PM at last week of March. The celebration of the Earth Hour is a symbol of commitment to the planet. Slated last March 28 in which the Heritage City of Vigan participated the event through simultaneously turning off the City Hall’s lights as well as the famous Calle Crisologo, Seven Wonders and UNESCO markers and the Provincial Capitol. Unlike the previous years, this year is very different due to the Coronavirus outbreak wherein social gatherings were strictly prohibited.

The Earth Hour was started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns across 187 countries and territories to raise awareness for energy consumption and effects on the environment.

To further enhance and strengthen the relationship between the Philippines and Germany, the German Ambassador to the Republic of the Philippines H. E. Anke Reinffenstuel visited the Heritage City of Vigan last March 11 wherein City Mayor Juan Carlo Medina together with the Sangguniang Panlungsod Members welcomed her at Vigan City Hall. Ambassador Reinffenstuel became the Head of the Division of Humanitarian Assistance and Humanitarian Demining (Operations) in 2016-2019 while became the Ambassador at the German Embassy Manila in August 2019.

The City’s Local Health Board, Local AIDS Council and the Adolescent Health and Development Council merged last March 9 at ABC Hall wherein resolutions pertaining to Health, HIV-AIDS, Adolescents, COVID-19 updates and Contingency Plan: Disease Outbreak were discussed by the City Heath Officer II Dr. Loida Ranches . The STAC Parents Association of Vigan Inc., United Architects of the Philippines, Federated Fishermen Association and Metro Vigan Zumba were added as part of the Local Health Board.

The different women’s organizations from the Eastern Barangays of the city congregated last March 7 at San Jose Covered Court in this year’s Zumba sa Barangay as part of the Women’s Month celebration. The said activity is an annual project of the City Government of Vigan through the City Social Welfare and Development Office that promotes fitness and wellness to every Bigueña towards healthier lifestyle.

As part of the intensive implementation of the city towards disaster preparedness, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in partnership with the City Bureau of Fire Protection conducts Training on First Aid and Basic life Support among teachers, PTA officers, students of Bulala - Paratong Elementary School and Vigan National High School West as well as the Barangay Officials of Brgy. Bulala and Brgy. Paratong last March 7 at BPES.

As part of the City’s Women’s Month Celebration, the Philippine National Police- Vigan City Division steers KA. BA. LI. KA. T (KAbabaihan at kaBAtaan sa isang Ligtas na pamayanan itaguyod kanilang KArapatan, Tungkulin ng bawat mamamayan) Patrol among the Women LGU Employees, Barangay Chairman/Officials, Chairman on Barangay Women and Children Protection Committee, BHW, NGA’s NGO’s and Women SK of the City. Orientation on the different laws regarding women and children protection and elected officers fir the said patrol.
