The hilarious actor keeps on entertaining audiences and making them laugh out loud with his very accurate expressions and funny portrayal of what’s written on the pages of the scripts. It's shown when he plays his roles that he owns a natural connection and a big amount of passion.

Probably, beside his talent, part of having a successful career has to do with him being true to himself. Anticipating his new role as Lew in the upcoming CBS’ multi-camera bowling comedy ‘How We Roll’ from Crashing‘s Pete Holmes, Tahj Mowry describes it as a show that focuses on the family and what you believe in going after your dreams.

Based on the life of professional bowler Tom Smallwood, Mowry’s character is Tom’s best friend who works at the bowling alley. He thinks it’s a good idea for Tom to go pro and for him to get a piece of the action as his manager.

In conversation with Viewties, the lovely Tahj tells us the latest on this wonderful series, along with his journey as an actor so far and the experiences he has collected.

V: To begin with, you’ve been in the industry for a long time and have an impressive resume, so I was wondering, what has your journey as an actor taught you so far?

V: You’re starring in How We Roll, what was your first impression of the series when you read the script? And what was it about the role that made you want to get it?

TAHJ: It’s taught to me to have thick skin and to never do anything unless you have a passion for it. This business can be very tricky if you aren’t doing it for the love of it. I’ve also learned never to take anything personal. What’s for you is for you.

TAHJ: The best multi camera sitcoms have the perfect blend of laugh out loud comedy and heart and that’s exactly what I saw in this script - I was so honored when they offered me the role. LEW is hilarious and there is always something new to explore with him. He’s sort of a jack of all trades and can pretty much do anything and he’s always surprising people with what he knows and what he’s capable of. He’s unintentionally funny so there is never a dull moment with him so he’s really fun to play.

V: Was there any advice you'd been given by anyone that's stuck with you along the years in your career?

TAHJ: I’d say just to be yourself. No one is you and no one can bring what you can bring to a role or a project. So always be you because that’s what makes you unique.

V: What helped you to get into character? Did you need to do any sort of research?

V: Would you say that your experience in the craft have helped you to choose what projects to be part of, or to even stay away from? How do you know when a role is perfect for you?

TAHJ: For this specific character I didn’t have to do too much research to begin with. But he can do so many things well - one being a damn good manager to Tom…who knew?!

- along with a bunch of other surprises that I don’t want to give away. So sometimes I have to do a bit of research weekly to be able to make it believable.

TAHJ: It’s all about the passion behind it. If a project or a role won’t bring you joy or some kind of challenge within it that you want to take on - don’t do it. I know a role is perfect for me when I see myself playing it while reading the script. The character comes to life and I can instantly feel what I can and would bring to the character. That’s when I know it’s a good one.

V: What was the most challenging thing in building this character for you?

TAHJ: I’m so thankful and blessed to have done comedy my whole life so I feel like it comes naturally to me. And the sitcom world is something I grew up in so I feel at home and very comfortable with it. With sitcoms you have the outline of the character and then from week to week the viewers can watch him grow and we can learn more about him. So it’s nice to be able to grow with a character on a show like this.

V: How do you perceive success? What does the concept of ‘’making it’’ mean to you?

TAHJ: Success to me is being able to do what I love for the rest of my life. I’ve been blessed to be able to do that my entire life and I’m so thankful for that blessing and I don’t ever take it for granted.

V: What’s your favourite aspect of Lew? TAHJ: I just love that he’s so honest and he says what’s on his mind even if it’s embarrassing. I also love that he’s super intelligent and talented in many surprise areas but he’s also a bit slow at times which is so fun to play. But the main thing I love about him is that he’s there for his friend Tom through anything.

V: What would you say is the moment that defines the show for you?

TAHJ: Every episode has an aspect of Going after your dreams and what you believe in. Taking risks for the benefit of your family. Also The family aspect of the show is what defines it for me - Toms immediate family dynamic is beautiful and that extends to the relationships he has in Archie (played by Chi McBride) and Lew.

V: Is there a scene in the series that you found hard to tackle?

TM.

TAHJ: Pretty much any scene with Pete Holmes could be hard at any given moment because we make each other laugh non stop!

V: Lew is Tom’s best friend in the series, so how did you and your castmate Pete Holmes work together to portray their friendship on screen as genuine as possible?

V: Last question, as my nationality is Argentinian, I’m curious to ask you if you have ever seen or experienced any type of art/culture from Argentina?

TAHJ: I’m so thankful that from day one we had this chemistry that sort of instantly flowed. It was very easy and continues to be easy to work with him. We are joking non stop off set and so when we get on set it comes a-

TAHJ: I have not but I love art and love to travel so I would absolutely love to experience Argentinian art and culture first hand some day.
