Editor's letter Welcome to the December issue! This is a very special time, it's the last month of the year and we wanted to conclude it bringing you the best experience while you’re reading about your favourite artists through the pages of this magazine. Last month, we introduced you to our individual issues, booklet style, one artist at the time, to have a more intimate insight on the talents featured. Remember this is a fast read digital publication to appreciate and celebrate art by knowing the other side of the story including the amazing photography by the outstanding photographers that kindly collaborate with us.

Stay tuned because this month Viewties goes on bringing you the latest on film and television introducing artists whose passion is to make you feel something with their dedication to the job of bringing a project / character to life. LP hat I like about LP is that every city and every country they visit, they stay

with something cultural and an accurate observation of the people that live there.

Makes me think that for LP, it is also important to feel and care about the vibe of the audiences across the world and the reaction to their music. They describe perfectly to these people and the places they went, as well as put all these experiences into their music they play. Yeah, you can definitely find a musical description of the journey, the feelings, and the learnings in LP’s music. So easy to identify yourself with and to transit when you’re going through the same.

‘Churches’,

something

magical

happened to me. Every song feels so special, and each of them is appropriate to any mood you’re currently experiencing. In the past year and a half, the singersongwriter, who has more than two billion streams to their name, released five singles from the album which now have a combined 80M streams/views. On release date, LP will debut a new song, “Conversation,” and an accompanying new video. The concept of two people having a conversation, who are both LP, makes it very interesting to watch! The song was written with the idea in mind of feeling that a conversation could fix everything. In 2022, LP European tour in support of Churches will kick off on January 21st at the O2 Academy in Leeds, England, and conclude after 30 dates across the continent on March 13th at Paris, France’s Salle Pleyel. A month later, LP will hit the road for U.S. dates, beginning on April 14th in Portland, Oregon at the Roseland Theater.

In conversation with Viewites, LP answers our questions about 'Churches', explaining beautifully the meanings of the songs and their journey to complete this record.

V: You were recently back in London for an intimate underplay show at Omeara. How did you feel being back in the city and what do you enjoy the most about the British audience?

I’m just trying to write something that sounds and/or feels like I’m telling the truth to myself.

LP - I love London – if I was going to move back into an English-speaking city it wouldn’t be New York, it would definitely be London. It’s such a cultural hub, and just feels like everything is happening there. I never get sick of visiting England or London, and the audiences there remind me of New York a bit where it’s like they’re hyper-real but are passionate – they can’t really fake it. I feel like with New York, London and Paris, you better be impressing everybody because they don’t really give a fuck. They’re so stimulated that they don’t need you.

So, if they like you then you must be doing something right, and I like that.

V: Do you feel vulnerable when it comes to making your deep songs public? How do you feel when you let your personal feelings go? Have you ever felt emotionally exposed?

LP - Sometimes! It’s tough even with this record because I kind of came onto the scene with a song (Lost On You) that was so open and sad about a relationship, and I think I got a lot of people on my side – I wouldn’t call it as a ‘victim’ but as a person that was done wrong. And now I’m coming out of another breakup, I’m sure people, not all people but band fans, could be like ‘oh so it’s you, you’re the asshole!’ And I don’t know, I’m just saying but that’s what goes through my head. I’m not trying to be the good guy per se, I’m just trying to tell my story and so when I think about things like that I feel a little exposed, yes.

V: I know that in the past you got disappointed by the industry, they didn’t know how to introduce your art in the music market. It’s sad when I hear these stories because I’m someone who consumes art in all its forms, and like part of the audience, I totally believe we want a variety of artists who can express their art and touch our hearts with it. We don’t want limitations and we don’t want repetitive patterns. There’s room for everyone whose art resonates with their real essence and conveys positive feelings with it. Now that you have experience fighting against these issues, what can you say about keeping yourself authentic in a world that encourages to be yourself all the time, but still wants to change you to fit in what they believe it sells?

V: Where does your inspiration come from? I mean, lyrically and instrumentally, I’ve heard so much creativity in your sound and wise words in your lyrics. You also write for other people... What do you do to not run out of words and chords?

LP - Ultimately, I feel blessed that it was more difficult for me, you know? All that grit makes you better. I think as I came up and started experiencing the success that I have, I have got increasingly more grateful and felt like my perspective was just so invaluable, and I almost should write the industry a thank you letter at this point. I think it hones my sense of gratitude to a perfect edge, and it’s good, I would encourage anybody to keep swimming upstream. It definitely is worth it.

LP - If I do, I just rest it for a while. I’m not sure any of my songs, for me, are forced - I’m just trying to write something that sounds and/or feels like I’m telling the truth to myself. As long as it feels like that to me I let it rip, and that’s why when I’m not writing I’m not forcing it. Many times, I’ve gone into the studio without a thought in my head and it just kind of happens. Suddenly I am there. I’ve just really learned how to channel and open myself up and receive. It's not really up to me that much.

It was like you got what you got when it was right. Again, I think we have all these partners around the world, I have so many different labels I’m on, and we kind of go with the passion in each country and they have different ideas of what should be the single, and we just kind of go with it. But again, I feel like when people have this record as a whole, there’s something about it as a complete piece of work that feels different than each song individually. It’s so subjective, I’ve had some of my favourite artists of all time and thought ‘this wasn’t a single on this record?’, and sometimes a fan favourite just becomes a single, there’s fan favourites on records that were never singles.

V: While I was listening to your album, something funny happened to me. I was writing down the tracks I picked as my favourites, but I had to give that up as every song that was playing was as good as the previous one. It’s so hard to pick a favourite song in your album, I guess you just pick one based on your current mood and this is what identifies your music to me, you have a song for every situation in the life of any person.

Now, this makes me wonder, is it hard for you when you have to choose your singles?

How do you know which song is the perfect one to launch as the album’s single?

V: However, I felt very connected with the song ‘Churches’, which is actually the one that titles the album. I like it because it’s pure love. Honest and true.

What does this song mean to you and why did you think this is the one that describes the whole album?

LP - For one I really wanted to bring attention to it, I don’t think it will be a single so I wanted people to check that song out and be like ‘they titled the record from this song so maybe I should check it out’. I just felt like it was one of the most powerful songs on the record. When I wrote that title, I had that scenario that happened in mind. When I went to a country everyone wanted to visit all these churches, and I was down but I’m not gonna go into a

LP - I agree! I think that’s what I feel when I listen to this record, it’s wild. I feel like this record feels so good as a whole that every time a single comes out I think to myself ‘is this the right single?’ When the record comes out, I think a lot of people might scratch their heads and think ‘why wasn’t THIS a single?’, like I truly think that’s what will happen! Because of the pandemic and addition of songs, some were just simply not finished yet, production wise.

church and cover my head because I’m female, I just don’t want to..straight up. And no disrespect to God because I have all the respect in the world for God, and I didn’t realise what a stance I have on religion. I knew that organised religion wasn’t my cup of tea and wasn’t ever going to be, I was raised Catholic but in my adult life I had my relationship with God and I’m very spiritual with everything. And I would go in a church, they’re beautiful obviously and in some ways a symbol for the best part of ourselves, but THAT part, some man-made concept of God…so when I started that song I just wanted to speak to those things but also come back around and say that it should be and is, all about love for me. I’m not trying to split people up or kind of condemn someone for what’s dangling or not dangling between their legs.

V: Did you struggle with any of the songs during the process of making this record?

LP

LP - ‘Rainbow’ was difficult for me because it seems like an obvious swipe at my ex, that it’s about her. And it is, but it’s also deeper than that, the connection that I had with my ex. It struck a lot of chords that were latent inside of me as far as trauma that I thought was unearthed by our relationship for both of us, but I can only speak to my side. It brought up a lot of deep sadness and anger from my father and I didn’t realise it until I wrote that melody, and I tried to fit words to it.

And it was just so difficult – I don’t even know if I did it justice in the end but I tried. It was choking me up to write it and to sing it, and it was wild. I hadn’t really experienced that too hard with a song. It was psychologically unearthing and awaring me to things I didn’t really understand. So that was interesting.

gotta fix that…’ I love it, I try to really stamp out my expectations as much as I can, and I try to enjoy as a listener. I’m still listening to it all the way through sometimes, this record, I know I’m not supposed to do it many times. It feels good, I think if I it can pass that test of having been with these songs for so long, writing them, getting them through all the stages of making a record that I can still listen to it, that’s a good sign.

V: Last question, as this is a publication based in Buenos Aires, I’m curious to ask you if you have ever seen or experienced any type of art/culture from Argentina?

V: What’s the feeling you get after recording all the songs that make the record? Do you get to get any lesson learned or personal growth with the whole experience?

LP - I haven’t really! I’ve only been there one time but there’s so much to experience there. I love it, going from country to country on a daily basis in South America was really interesting as there’s such a difference. Argentinian people in particular are their own people, they’re not like their bordering countries, it’s really cool. I have a lot more to discover there!

LP - It’s beautiful. It’s a bit shocking almost, and you just try and enjoy it without thinking ‘oh I ...
