ylan Raffin is proud to present his first international feature film set to

be released on the 1st of October 2021.

‘Adulting’ (original title: "Comme des Grands") is a scenario retracing a complicated day in the life of Marion, a young woman in the midst of a quarter-century crisis. Dylan Raffin plays the lead character of the film (Maxime) alongside Pauline Chalamet (Marion). He made his television debut in 2017 and will soon play the lead role in Damien Jaillette's first feature film "A Propos de Nous". In Adulting, his character Maxime is the defining piece of the story. He embodies all the young people of his generation, the taste for risk, desire, and will disturb with great pleasure, Marion's life.

Viewties caught up with the actor to chat about this film, his journey getting into character, working alongside Pauline and his experience in the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival.

V: You’re making your debut internationally with the feature film ‘Adulting’, but before digging in this, I am interested in knowing a little bit more about your story.

What do you remember about your first inkling to wanting to be an actor? At what point in your life did you realize that this is what you wanted to pursue as a career?

Dylan - I come from a small town close to Switzerland called SainteMarie d'Alloix. I was lucky to have a true awakening when it comes to wanting to be an actor, at around 15 years old when my mother signed me up to a "video club" around the corner called "SMA Production". This is where it all started for me.

Working on the feature films « The Story Of the book » and « Places aux jeunes » confirmed my passion for the industry. When I turned 18, my French agent Chantal Philippart accepted to work with me under 1 condition: that I move to Paris. I then had to work at the factory, day and night, for 3 months so that I could afford moving to the city of lights... Paris.

During that first year in Paris, I studied Acting in English with an incredible acting coach, Giles Foreman. I wanted to train and be ready for international projects. This was my first formal acting training experience. Then, I kept working in other films and TV series.

My father taught me how to fight and work for my goals and dreams.

V: From a very young age, you are able to speak different languages and accents and you’re one of the youngest helicopter pilots ever licensed in France. What motivates you about these practices? Do you do it to get more experience in the acting field or just because you like it?

Dylan - I am quite curious (maybe too much) and I am REALLY good at doing intense research (laughs). I love exploring, experimenting new things, I don't like having a routine. Learning languages became essential for me, it's first a personal accomplishment and also a useful tool as an actor who wants to work internationally. I come from a quite humble family and have been raised in the countryside amongst cows and chickens so in order to make it in the movie industry, there is no other way than fighting for your goals. To be honest, I probably inherited that from my father who works in the military, he taught me how to fight and work for my goals and dreams. My family has been a witness of this for...

I learned gyroplane thanks to my father. I kind of fell into it as a child but still hard to study hard for the theory and practical tests. Fun fact, I got certified before getting my car driver's license. As an actor, our job is to learn and explore. If I am doing something it's because I am passionate about it, which motivates me even more to give 200% of myself.

V: You play Maxime in Adulting, what attracted you to the role when you first read the script?

Dylan - At first sight, Maxime is quite the opposite of who I am, which was a real challenge for me. I had to do a lot of physical work to get into character.

I didn't know how to smoke and had to learn really quickly how to hold a cigarette since my character is quite a smoker. The transformation was super exciting. Then when developing and interpreting the character I got to learn about different sides of him. Some I had never thought about. Maxime holds a charming ambiguity and sensitivity….I'll let you find out.

V: Was there any theme or individual scene from the script that resonated most for you?

Dylan - Personally I would say my first scene. This is when I meet Marion (interpreted by Pauline Chalamet). It was also the first time that we performed together and it was a beautiful meeting.

V: How was it getting into character and can you say about how you prepared to portray him?

Dylan - In order to interpret the role of Maxime, I first had to work on my physicality. I had to learn how to move and even walk differently. Working with certain types of music helped me emotionally.

It was quite a challenge because I had very little notice from the moment I auditioned to the day I got to set. The timeline was really short for the workload but that's where I love a challenge. We also worked quite a lot on Maxime's psycology and his impact on Marion (Pauline Chalamet).

V: Were there any aspects from your character or one scene in the film that was particularly taxing for you?

Dylan - The party scene was difficult.

We had to shoot all night and it was physically demanding but we had fun and the scene turned out to be great (I won't spoil anything).

V: How would you describe Pauline Chalamet off the camera? Can you say how did you both work alongside to get the chemistry portrayed on the big screen?

Dylan - Pauline is my best meeting...

of 2019! She has been such an inspiration for me and I have learned a lot from her off-camera.

She really was of great support through the project. Some things can't be explained. It's about connecting with the right people at the right time, things just click and it works. I think that's why we are able to tell a beautiful story.

V: What was the experience like at the Cannes Film Festival red carpet and how was it seeing the film for the first time?

Dylan - This was my first Cannes Film Festival and it was so stressful! I was scared to miss a step (crazy stupid thought when there are only 24 of them) but it was a thrilling experience I will never forget. Seeing our film for the first time was moving and exciting.

I now can't wait for everyone to see it on the 1st of October 2021!

V: Any dream actors or filmmakers you would love to work with on future projects?

Dylan - I love Jean-Pierre Jeunet's cinema, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, American cinema… I also think Latin-American cinema has such great potential, which I can't wait to explore.

Cannes Film Festival was a thrilling experience I will never forget.

V: Last question, as my nationality is Argentinian, I’m curious to ask you if you have ever seen or experienced any type of art/culture from Argentina?

Dylan - Thanks to on-demand streaming platforms, I have been able to watch some Argentinian films and series! I also love the music which makes me want to dance, some other more emotional musics that get me emotional.

Hopefully after this pandemic ends, I can visit your beautiful country.

Productions has some amazing short films currently running at different festivals. In issue 31, I shared my thoughts on the short film ‘I Am’ and now I’m very excited to tell you what I think about the next one, POLES, a short film that addresses depression and suicidal thoughts in Millennials. ‘‘The

current

climate

with

self-isolation

and

social

distancing

has

exacerbated this feeling of emptiness, which has caused a massive decline in everyone’s mental health,’’ Candid Broads explains. Although conversation

around

mental

health

is

getting

freer,

loneliness

and

depression in Millennials are still widely misunderstood and stigmatised within this generation.

With ‘POLES’, Candid Broads’ goal is to promote a more realistic view of mental health in the media. ‘‘This film isn’t about depression, the film is an experience of melancholy. We don’t think people need any more lectures about mental health, sometimes art should simply be a reflection or a window,’’ they conclude.

The film follows a lonely young woman Anna (played by Oriane Pick) who struggles to deal with her melancholy despite the efforts of friends and family. Consumed by her melancholy and seemingly oppressed by every innocuous object in her home, Anna tries to find solace in her own reasoning. She acts out of routine more than impulse. There is only one vision of peace, one space of silence… the end. Even when a friend calls her out Anna cannot focus on the interaction instead the noise of the cafe, the brightness of the day more and more asserts her belief that the only way out is to leave.

depression plays out and expresses how it feels in its dramatization.

POLES shows the intimacy of someone who’s dealing with the darkness in her mind. It’s expected that audiences either see themselves or have seen someone who appears like the character.

Oriane’s performance exposes the symptoms of someone suffering this issue and how it affects people around her as well as how they react to the circumstances. The question is… Is mental health still getting the attention it needs? Does this film prove what is happening and what needs to be done about it? You will get reflective after seeing this film and you will wonder what you could do to change this situation for yourself and the ones around you.
